Idiom story

Sally woke up in the morning; she looked at the clock and realized that she has been late to the work. She shook a leg - took a shower, grabbed a sandwich, hopped into her car and drove away. Then she almost ran over a stranger man. She braked the car and blew the horn. Then she realized that it was Michael, a nice handsome guy from the beach party at last weekend. If it's not one thing, it's another. She stooped out of the car window to apologize. She had to hurry but wanted to be nice and polite. She said, "Sorry, Michael I didn't noticed you, are you okay?" "Yes, but I will be better if you'll come out with me tonight, would you?" asked Michael. "Sure!" "Well, then I'll come and pick you up at 7pm!" Then Sally drove away, thinking about what she had done. She promised yesterday to her 10-years old daughter that she will watch a movie with her and now Sally didn't know what to do, her agreeing was just a slip of the tongue. ...

One story

One story Laurel was sitting on her bed, but everything around her was still gone. She thought it was just a dream some moments ago, but now she was certain something was wrong with her eyes. The background wasn't totally black, there were some lighter and darker places...but it didn't help her to get to the door. Slowly, almost millimeter-by-millimeter she moved to the other side of her small room, watching out for the things that were lying on the ground. "What are you doing, Laurel?" a sudden voice from somewhere behind called. The girl turned around and saw some blue stripes waving, but soon they were gone again. "Um, who is it?" she asked after a minute of silence, but the person who stood there was already gone. The next noise she heard were someone's fast, almost running feet on the stairs that led to her chamber-room. Soon the door opened and a warm hug followed it was her older sister, Mary. Laurel wanted to say `good mor...

Its better to have any religion then to be atheist

its better to have any religion then to be atheist. We live in the 21th century where democracy and freedom of different kinds dominate in most parts of the world. Freedom of worship is not an exception, therefore people can believe or not believe in anything they want. According to this many people decided not to have any religion at all and called themselves ,,atheists". These people believe in their own physical and moral forces only, but now and here i will try to persuade the reader that having a God or some deity is better than to be godless. First reason, why it is better to be a religous person than atheist, is your spiritual and mental safety because if you belive in God , you will always have someone to rely on even in the worst situations, and you will never give up as you would probably do, if you stayed against the misery alone, on your own. Secondly, i would like to point out that with having a God to believe in your every...

Competition good or bad ?

Competition: good or bad ? Competition is something that everyone has in his or her life. When you are young and still studying in school, you would compete with your classmates for better grades, when you get older and start working, you would compete with your colleagues to get higher position with better salary. Companies compete with each other to get more customers.Countries compete with each other for a better economy. Even animals and plants compete with each other. But what are the good and bad sides of competition? First of all, competiton makes us strive(pingutama) more than usually. When we must compete with other people, we want to be best or at least good. As a result, we are ready to do things that maybe are difficult or boring, but improve our skills. For example, if estonian proffessional skier Kristina Smigun wants to win a gold medal, she has to focus on the upcoming contest. That means to train every day without compl...

Money makes the world go round

Money makes the world go round Karl Johan Lips Money! the thing we all are working for. For few of us it has came easily by lottery, simple inventions or just having studied and listened to good advise by smart business owners, teachers and parents. Others however have had to struggle to get money because of simple reasons like not having studied in school or college, being lazy, or not doing the job correctly. Its clear that money is as important that living without it is almost impossible. But exactly how important and what is less or more important then money is left for every individual himself to decide. People use their money differently, for example their are celebrities who waste money on 5 different cars and 4 houses just to show they are rich but there are also people like Bill Gates who are very humble and donate huge amount of their money to help people who ca...

Why languages essee

Why Languages? Languages are very important nowadays. There are more than seven thousand languages in the world. Some of the languages are more widely spread than others like English, German and Mandarin language. It is important to learn languages because people travel a lot and then the communication is easier. In the world there are so many languages and it is impossible that we could speak them all. That's why there are some dominant languages. I think one of the most spoken languages is English, because so many people in the world can speak it. Some foreign languages are taught in very young age children. For example in Estonian

All the world's a puzzle;arutlev kirjand

(W. Shakespeare) There lie more answers beneath these poetical phrases than one could ever give when describing a textbook just like the actors, we seek for knowledge without really finding it until we've finished the play. Every written piece of paper is something precious it contains information that can either make our day or totally ruin the mood; that's the secret of all books. They have the power to change the world up-side down. The English textbook given to us this year is something we must carefully treasure after all, there are going to be more people next year either to praise or suffer from it. But not the emotions count at the moment, the future does we must all learn from this wonderful book that wit is not easily gained, however once it's collected, it'll be never lost again. The first chapter includes three specially chosen units. Unit one includes reading about the

The Domician Monastery

THE DOMINICAN St. CATHERINE`S MONASTERY One of the best-kept secrets of Tallinn is to be found in the very center of the city. Located near Viru Street, between Müürivahe and Vene Streets, is a medieval Dominican monastery which reveals a fascinating dimension of the city's history. The Dominican Order was founded by a Spaniard, Saint Dominic Gusman, in 1216. Up to that moment only bishops were permitted to preach, but their performance was inadequate beause of the time they had to devote to the administrstion of their dioceses. The result was that many Christians heard the Word of God rarely if at all . Dominic envisioned the creation of a body of trained theologians who would scatter throughout Europe and proclaim the gospel in the most remote areas. The nordic countries appear very early on the Dominic anagenda. To reach Tallinn the friars followed the trade route along the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, and reached Estonia some 7...

Computers should be used while studying

Computers should be used while studying Nowadays more and more students use computers while studying. While I believe that students should use more computers while studying, their parents and also teachers do not. I strongly believe that computers are useful while studying if you use them as they should be used. Firstly, using computers can improve their computer skills, which can be used later. For example finding a job. Nowadays there lots and lots of jobs which require atleast basic knowledge about computers. Therefore, it is important for them to have computer skills atleast at basic level. Secondly, using computers while studying can speed up the learning and also writing process, because it is known that the youth can find a missing word or a phrase on the internet in a matter of seconds. Also, they write a lot faster on computer than by hand, so it can drastically improve the speed of learning. On the other h...

Learning foreign language - Why is it necessary?

language than Estonian. Estonian is very little language and example is quite hard to get god job if you cannot speak some world language. This is very positive that we can learn at least two foreign language in the school. Very important is than we get practice beside school lessons. Some things like watching films and listening music make us understand this language better. In the future I would like to learn french and Swedish but first I should learn to speak Russian and English correctly. If we travel, we anyway communicate with different people and it's easier to make contact than we can speak language very well. And communicating with different people make our world-view larger. If your partner, relatives or friends speak a different language, learning that language will help you to communicate with them. It will also give you a better understanding of their culture and way of thinking.

That was told in his father's will, where is told that John Harmon will inherit all his father's money when he will marry a certain girl who is named Bella Wilfer. It is an autumn evening and dark shadows are covering the river. There is a boat and in it is sitting Jesse Hexam with his daughter Lizzie. Should space exploration be a priority

Space exploration should be a priority Since the beginning of time people have wondered about what's really hidden behind the clouds and what goes on there. Before people had the technology to study space, they tried to make sense of the universe with the help of religion. Luckily thanks to the great interest in the subject, the first manned spaceflight happened on April 12, 1961 by the Soviet Union, with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin aboard. Travelling in space could become very important and useful for people on earth in case something happens to our planet. Many things could happen since humans are taking advantage of earth's natural resources like oil and building dangerous factories that produce toxic waste. With space travel we could find planets that have the material to replace our resources and maybe get rid of the toxic waste we no longer have room here. Besides that, a war could break out involving ...

Inglise keele arvustus sarjale Jeeves and Wooster

because that was the time when coca cola as new drink came out. Jokes were bounded and decenced. There wasn't no special effects or action. For example there were a car accident. In one moment camera filmed car when it was driving towards the people. And the next frame some person had rolled over, and thats it. Also Wooster was playing golf , which told me that he is a reasonable man. Jeeves and Wooster is based on English humor. Everyone can't understand it and thats reason why a lot of people don't like it or conversely like very much these kind of series. I think it was a good alternation to watch something different, and I advise it for the people who like English humor, the old timing or actor Hugh Laurie. http://www.screenonline.org.uk/tv/id/1060579/index.html KRISTI AKSIIM, 10 b

For & against about credit cards.

Using credit cards Credit cards have been very popular for two decades already. There are many ways to pay for your shoppings and not to worry about how much money you really have. First of all, credit cards are an amazing invention because it makes our everyday-lives so much easier. We do not have to carry cash with us, we can pay by a credit card. Carrying cash is actually pretty dangerous because you can get robbed. But when your card gets stolen, you just call to the bank and they close it for any further operations. Second of all, it is comfortable and feels like somebody is taking care of your finantial business. But on the other hand, when you recieve your credit card bill at the end of the month, the reality hits you really hard. You have not thought of how much you spend and eventually you find out that you do not actually have the money to pay for what you have bought. Lots of people have e...

Descartes will only accept one specific kind of ideas: which and why? He will only accept clear and distinct ideas that are indubitable. Because the complex ideas could then be constructed using the simple ideas. 6. How does Descartes call his method and why is it not skeptical? Methodic doubt. Because the goal of this doubt is not to be skeptical but to prove that some things can not be doubted. 7. “...

Writing a formal letter in english about a newspaper ad

available." In an indirect question with IF: if, alus, öeldis. For example: "The advertisement did not mention if(IF) the flat(A) is(Ö) available." 5. Newspaper's name in the first paragraph. If there's not said in which newspaper the advertisement was, it is good if you could make one up. Estonian newspapers are written without an article. For example: in Postimees, in Päevaleht. English newspapers are written together with an article. For example: in The Times, in the Sun, in the Independent, in the Guardian. In case you want to emphasize date when the newspaper was written, do not use any articles. For example: "I am writing to you regarding to your advertisement, which I saw in yesterday's Times." If we use "yesterday's", we can't use an article. If we do not use "yesterday's", we

Housing

Housing Aleksander Andrejev AT112 The Contents Houses, not flats Private property and public property The importance of ,,home" Individuality and conformity Interiors: the importance of cosiness Owning and renting Homelessness The future Houses, not flats Detached house not only ensures privacy, it is also a status symbol. Even a modest detached house, surrounded by garden, gives the rerequired suggestion of rural life. Most people would be happy to live in a cottage, and if this is a thatched cottage so much the better. Most people try to avoid living in blocks of flats. Flats, they feel, provide the least amount of privacy. The people who live in flats are those who cannot afford to live anywhere else. The dislike of living in flats is very strong despite of that they are very comfortable. People said they felt cut off from the world all those floors up. The new highrise blocks quickly deteriorated. Private property and...

Life in future

Life in future I think that technology will definitely influence our lives, but I don't think that life will be better than now, rather worse. The air won't be suitable for breathing so there will be probably some kind of masks or glass cities, where to live. Water won't be drinkable and people will buy all needful water from shops, actually not from shops but from the internet, because there won't be shops anymore. Food nearly won't exist anymore; energy will come in tablet form. Transport will be a lot comfortable and faster. Cars will be soundless and all vehicles will whir ten times faster. You will think nothing of taking a holiday in outer space. Students will learn from TV, recorders and teaching machines. They will get pills to make them learn faster. We shall be healthier, too. There will be no common colds, cancer, tooth decay or mental illness. But this will be artificial and impermanent....

"Complaint letter" 260 sõna

Dear Neander Taal, Once again, I find disappointment. Once again, I find no satisfaction. Once again, I find that my motivations for writing this letter are not of insult or hatred, but of the deepest love for mankind and the truest concern for its future generations. It is requisite, even in this summary sketch, to go back a few years to see how I admit I have a tendency to become a bit insensitive whenever I rebuke Laivi Tuvahe for trying to leach integrity and honor from our souls. While I am desirous of mending this tiny personality flaw, by brainwashing her apologists with anarchism, Laivi makes them easy to lead, easy to program, and easy to enslave. I would like to comment on Laivi's attempt to associate hooliganism with Dadaism. There is no association. Should we be concerned that Laivi wants to destroy that which is the envy of--and model for--the entire civilized world? I'll answer that question for you: Yes, we shoul...
