Letter to a friend

Dear Kate, I'm writing you to thank you for your letter where you asked whether or not I like travelling and which places I want to see next. Firstly, I simply adore travelling and take every opportunity I can to visit different countries. My last trip took me to the Finland where I met a lot of interesting people. Secondly, there are some countries I am dreaming to visit some day in the future. I would really like to travel to Japan. I would love to visit a country which has very rich traditions and culture. There are very proud and generous people. I would like to see some festivals there and also visit some old castles and temples. Also Japan is known for its robots and technical gadgets. And of course I like to see citylights in the night and go shopping to big centres. Shibuya 109 is a mutli-storey shopping centre just for teenage girs. And Akihabara in Tokyo is know solely for its electronics and games. Finally, the only negati...

Aborigines have interested me for a long time now so doing this essay is really fun for me. Australian Aboriginal culture is one of the world's longest surviving cultures. Australian Aborigines, also known as Indigenous Australians , are the native people of Australia . Many of them suffered when white people from Britain arrived in Australia, because of disease, the loss of their hunting lands, and unfair laws. Australian Aborigines are those people regarded as indigenous to the Australian continent. In the High Court of Australia, Australian Aborigines have been specifically identified as a group of

"Babel" My favourite film

Every branch of the story has it s very own distinct style that complements the plot of each one perfectly. The scenes are stunning, beautiful and dramatic. The film makes quite a sad impression, because the events of the film are tragic. "Babel" is a film that, of course, is about what makes all humans alike. It shows no matter what language we speak, how many boarders we have drawn on a map or how often we try to separate ourselves through culture we cannot destroy the one thing that draws us together: the painful reality of our powerful nature, pain will always make as one.

First advantage would be living in a foreign country, a new language is quaranteed to be learned. While communicating with other people, a person may find himself around new possible friends. Secondly, gaining the new experiences could change one´s life forever. Every country has its own culture and it is claimed that spending some time abroad makes a person able to see cultural differences from another perspective. It also broadens the horizons. Unfortunately there are some disadvantages, such as at first you may not know the language, so that you will not be able to communicate with people in their local language. Visiting the country for the first time can be difficult because everything is new and unfamiliar. Moreover,

Great Britain

only Queen Victoria has reigned longer. Her Silver and Golden Jubilees were celebrated in 1977 and 2002; her Diamond Jubilee is being celebrated during 2012. Cultural Life in Great Britain Artistic and cultural life in Britain is rather rich, like in most of the European countries. It has passed several main stages in its evelopment. The Saxon King Alfred encouraged the arts and culture. The chief debt owed to him by English literature is for his translations of and commentaries on Latin works. Art, culture and literature flourished during the Elizabethan age, during the reign of Elizabeth I; it was the period of English domination of the oceans and colonies, and, due to the strong political and economic position of the country, there were few obstacles in the way of the cultural development. This time is also famous for the fact that William Shakespeare lived and worked then.

Maailmausundite statistika

King David are mythical; they never existed. Some would place the date at the time of Abraham, circa 1900 BCE. Some date it to the Exodus from Egypt circa 1490 BCE. Others say that no Exodus happened. On the basis of archeological evidence, many believe that the ancient Hebrews were originally a group of Canaanites who gradually separated from the main body and eventually developed a separate culture. That would certainly explain why so many Jewish holy days were derived from the Pagan Canaanite culture.  Note 4: Sources differ greatly. A sampling of the Internet on 2015- DEC-02 showed estimates from to 12 to 173 million: o According to a statistical overview in 2011 of religions in China: "The number of Taoists is difficult to estimate, due to a variety of factors including defining Taoism. decline of the American natives. In the sixteenth century, Spaniards and other Europeans brought horses to the Americas. Some of these animals escaped and began to breed and increase their numbers in the wild. Ironically, the horse had originally evolved in the Americas, but the early American horse became game for the earliest humans and became extinct about 7,000 BC, just after the end of the last ice age. The re-introduction of the horse had a profound impact on Native American culture in the Great Plains of North America. As a new mode of travel the horse made it possible for some tribes to greatly expand their territories, exchange goods with neighboring tribes, and more easily capture game. In the nineteenth century, the incessant Westward expansion of the US forced large numbers of Native Americans to resettle further west. Under President Andrew Jackson, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which authorized the President to conduct treaties to exchange

Living and working abroad

Living and working abroad Living and working abroad may be better than in your home country. That can only be figured out by looking at your advantages and disadvantages that will occur. Starting with the advantages, the biggest advantage would be new experience. Learning a new culture and the way the people live, what they eat, how they dress, how they talk to each other, is a fantastic new experience. It can also involve more travelling around the world, learning more and more new cultures, meeting new people and getting smarter all the time. Earning money depending on my home country: Estonia, will be better ,because the economy in Estonia is very bad. The disadvantages are mostly leaving your family far away. Getting to birthdays

The future seems dark. - 2012

This is somewhat misleading. While Mayans do not believe the world will end on 2012, many do believe that there will be a massive event, which will change the way we experience reality. What that actually is, however, is anyone's guess. There are many Christians who believe the coming of Christ will happen within their lifetime. This idea shouldn't be discounted immediately, but it does not necessarily mean the Jesus we understand in Western culture will come sailing down from the sky. If we consider that Jesus was a manifestation of God, it's possible that Christ may return embodied in another form. It's possible that all the differing theories about 2012 may all be about the same event, and have just been interpreted in different ways. For this reason, it's important we don't commit ourselves to one set idea of what will happen, and remain open to all possibilities.

Patriotic intellectuals encouraged Estonians to participate in public life, determined the legal and cultural requirements of the emerging nation, and organised the extensive sending of petitions to the Russian authorities. At its height, in 18601880, the movement was governed by a politically moderate trend with their specific ethnic-linguistic aims. The trend stressed the need to develop national culture and education in Estonian. Pastor and linguist Jakob Hurt was convinced that the mission of a small nation can only be of a cultural and not of a political nature; what counts is national identity, not statehood as such. KADRIORG This is 2 kilometres east of the centre and is served by buses and trams. Essay: Christmases in Estonia

"jõulud" is of ancient Scandinavian origin and has no connection with Christianity) was a time of year to celebrate the shortest day and longest night. At the same time, Christmas was the culmination of the late autumn celebrations. Christmas Eve and Christmas Night were the most sacred times of the season. Nowadays, Christmases are simply considered to be a holiday to spend time with family and friends. Estonia has assimilated most of the traditions which were not relative to Estonia's culture in the old times. Nevertheless, our tradition is to give gifts to each other but for example in America, Santa Claus brings his gifts by coming through the chimney. As a rule, food plays a big role in Estonia's Christmas table. Traditional Christmas meal consists of pork with sauerkraut and potatoes, white and blood sausage with cowberry jam. As a matter of fact that Estonians are fond of drinking, vodka and glogg will also be there next to the traditional food.

At the time when Columbus discovered America

became maids, cooks. Poor living conditions, lack of food and medical care led to illnesses and an early death. The population of the USA is more than 300 million. The biggest national groups today are of German ,Irish and English descent. About 30 millions African Americans live in the USA.They are the descendants of Africans brought to America as slaves in the 17th century. For them the USA is a kind of melting pot , where they have become Americans. Others have kept their traditions and culture , so for them their new homeland is like a salad bowl. But perhaps it is better to say that the population of the United States is like a pizza , where we can see different bits and pieces , but together they make something much bigger.

Which country you would like to visit?

This country doesn't have an official language, but it's national language is English. Australia has much lakes and rivers and climate is dampish and warm. I´ve reasearched and also heard that Australia is a pretty safe country and especially good for beach life, partying, relaxing with friendly locals, wide-open spaces, long self-drive trips and fun city life, though a bit short of arts and culture. It's also a popular holiday work destination. It is said that if you have chance to stay In Australia and you want to study here, then don`t think anything just move to Australia and start a new life. There are numerous Universities in Australia that are internationally recognized. So if ever I a graduate from these University, the percentage of being offered a job opportunity for me is higher than with graduates from other school.

Fair Trade Tourism

Fair Trade Tourism Local people have often been the last to benefit financially from international tourism. But this is slowly changing. It's happening in Vietnam. The first tourists can see many famous war sites, towns and vibrant green paddy fields. But if they go up into the hills they find a region inhabited by hill tribe people, who live basic, subsistence life. Local people are looking at tourists with fear and disdain. In the villages children are playing and mothers with elaborate headdresses are getting on their daily lives, but if tourists come, they run indoors and villages become silent. In Thailand hill tribe treks have become infamous ,,human zoos". Tourists from all over the world traipse through the villages and this causes cultural and economic disaster. Also the benefits of toursim are often skimmed off by businessmen from outside the community. It ruins and changes the local people...

Soome arhitekt Eliel Saarineni projektid Tallinnas

zizzle SOOME ARHITEKT ELIEL SAARINENI PROJEKTID TALLINNAS Referaat Paldiski 2012 Sissejuhatus Varasemast selgelt eristuvate joontega modernistlikku stiili nimetatakse saksakeelse ajakirja Jugend (e.k 'noorus') järgi juugendiks. Uudsusiha kiuste kandusid edasi paljud historitsismile iseloomulikud jooned. The art of dance

It often tells a story, perhaps using mime, costume and scenery, or else it may simply interpret the musical accompaniment. Examples are western ballet and modern dance, Classical Indian dance and Chinese and Japanese song and dance dramas. [3] Dancing has been one of the most popular way to have a good time and to entertain someone. It’s a cultural representation, which involves dancers, choreographers, audience, patrons and impresarios. Dance traditions may be limited to one culture, but they all develope. Ballet is an example of a highly developed Western form of dance that moved to the theatres from the French court during the time of Louis XIV. Some dances, such as the quadrille, a square dance and other country dances were once popular at social gatherings, but are now rarely performed. On the other hand, many folk dances have evolved into competitions, which by adding to their audiences, has increased their entertainment value. Still, there’s some dance

Essey: How does the United States influence Estonia

American films, TV programs, pop music and brand labels are a big part of everyday life for almost every Estonian. Of course, it is not only the case of Estonia. Americanization is taking place all over the world. We could say, that we are just dealing with globalization, but since the most influence apparently comes from US and not equally from the rest of the world, I would say we rather deal with Americanization. Language is unquestionably an integral part of culture and through language people recognise their national identity. Until the 20th century, our mother tongue was most influenced by German language. During the first half of 20th century, Estonian language was closer to Finnish and the second half of 20th century was dominated by Russian influences. In the 21th century, however, Estonian language has been stoutly impacted by English. Some people are very protective

African religious tradition has heavily influenced the culture of Rastafarianism and biblical themes have heavily influenced the religion's belief system. The most famous Rastafari is arguably Bob Marley, whose reggae music gained the Jamaican movement international recognition. There is no formal, organized leadership in Rastafarianism, creating a wide variety of spiritual and moral variation within the religion. Some Rastafarians see Rasta more as a way of life, and others see it more as a religion.
