Culture generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activity significance. The koala and eucalyptus form an iconic australian pair pair. Culture. Since 1788, the basis of Australian culture has been strongly influenced by Anglo-Celtic Western culture. Distinctive cultural features have also arisen from Australia's natural environment and Indigenous cultures. Since the mid-20th century, American popular culture has strongly influenced Australia, particularly through television and cinema. Other cultural influences come from neighbour Asian countries, and through large-scale immigration from non-English-speaking nations. Art

A war of independence in the early 20th century led to the partition of the island, creating the Irish Free State, which became increasingly sovereign over the following decades. Northern Ireland remained a part of the United Kingdom and saw much civil unrest from the late 1960s until the 1990s. This subsided following a political agreement in 1998. In 1973, both parts of Ireland joined the European Community. Irish culture has had a significant influence on culture world-wide, particularly in the fields of literature and, to a lesser degree, science and learning. A strong indigenous culture exists, as expressed for example through native sports. Gaelic games are the traditional sports played in Ireland. The two main Gaelic games are Gaelic football and Hurling. The Irish language, alongside a common Western culture, such as contemporary music and drama, and sports such as rugby and golf.

For and against studying abroad

I believe that there are many advantages that the time abroad will provide you. For instance you will make a lot of friends from all over the world. It is always nice to have a place to stay when you accidentally end up in Japan or Australia for a few days. Being an exchange student is also a fabulous chance for travelling. Getting to know a new country so well is definitely not possible during a holiday or a short visit. Besides living in a new culture for a long period of time will teach you more about the culture than reading any book about it. Studying abroad is also a great way to master another language. When you suddenly find yourself immersed in a world where everyone speaks another language, you may find yourself immersed in a world where everyone else speaks another language; you may be scared out of your mind. But this wears off and before you know it you'll be fluent. An exchange student will also get more independent

Different cultures

Effective communication with people of different cultures is especially challenging. Cultures provide people with ways of thinking--ways of seeing, hearing, and interpreting the world. The same words can mean different things to people from different cultures, even when they talk the "same" language. When the languages are different, and translation has to be used to communicate, the potential for misunderstandings increases. Second are "behavior constraints." Each culture has its own rules about proper behavior which affect verbal and nonverbal communication. Whether one looks the other person in the eye-or not; whether one says what one means overtly or talks around the issue; how close the people stand to each other when they are talking--all of these and many more are rules of politeness which differ from culture to culture. Third factor is "emotional constraints." Different cultures regulate the display of emotion differently

People gain a lot from foreign travel

In myopinion, it is certainly true. Every person tries to travel as much as possible. There is a huge number of advantages of foreign travel and I would like to describe some of them. One of the significant benefits is knowledge that we gain from travelling. It is quite an expensive hobby and poor people can`t afford it. They are not able to get experience in different foreign cultures because such people do not travel at all. Every culture differs from another and it is not possible to learn all of them. But everyone should try to see the difference between our and foreign culture. Furthermore, learning from travelling is more interesting and funny than learning at home. Moreover, one particular thing about culture is the unique food. Foreign cuisine has a big variety of cooking methods from the unusual ingridients. Obviously, all travelers prefer to experience it. Identity as a personal project

To understand it, I was always thinking practically – I created a character, like in a movie or a book. What should happen first with the character, what factors influence the creation of individual identity? I agree to Giddens – person isn´t born with identity, everyone has to build and develop it during the whole life. Many factors play their own roles in this process, and I think the first factor is a family. All mayor impressions about culture, religion, relations we carry through life starting from families, especially parents. Secondary factor, what comes to characters´ life is neighbourhood and friends. From this moment factors are starting to interact, influencing our thoughts and feelings. Later as a factor could come religion or state or work – it depends on characters´ life. Factors interactions could be very different – they can supply one another or to be in conflict. For example, when our character will be deciding

How does the United States influence Estonia?

To stay in good terms some of our political decisions might be affected by the United States, however, it will stay out of the public view. Although Estonia is not directly dependant on America economically but as the United States’ economy has an effect on the global economy, we are bound to be influenced indirectly. In the cultural aspect, Americanisation is taking spreading all over the world. In our everyday life, we are exposed to American culture because it is everywhere: music, films, food. With the development of Internet and technology, the access to different cultures has become easier and the impact to our culture more noticeable. Also in today’s society we are not limited by the state borders, therefore we can consume goods and media without any resistance. Nowadays we have become so accustomed to it that we do not notice how much American culture there is around us every day: the junk food we eat has become a quick and cheap

In addition the actors and actresses at this time were told to practice public behavior. Where to eat. How to dress, what they could be seen doing. Made people more equal. Rich and poor families saw the same movies. The children all shared the same wish to be like movie stars. Culture and westernization. The culture in big towns moved over to rural areas. The nation exported it-s culture through movies . Movies were actually key to the westernization of the world as 90% of all movies then were made in hollywood/us. Information travelled faster. At some point the movie companies wanted to expand and do movies further away. People needed to communicate more. Another thing that I read was that world news back then were shown in the beginning at every movie.

Tolerance and diversity

get to know about these differences. If your behaviour do not accord to the persons expectations then it will hurt him and you will get disrespected. Many of us don't have the opportunity to live a healthy and full life , that is why we should always treat each other equally. Tolerance is all about politeness against people from other countries with other religions and cultures. People like this never discriminate others against on the basis of their sex, colour, religion, culture and so on. It is about a norm of polite society when you are interacting with another person with a different background. This means that you don't define your religion by saying "I'm not like those people over there." It means that you describe what you believe and practice it in positive ways, with as little reference to other religions as possible. Then again there are those who feel themselves comfortable and also special when someone is staring him on the street about his different race

Why Travel?

Travelling gives you so much. People travel beacause they need that at work or just for fun and also because they wants to diverse cultures. Historians travel because they want to become acquainted history of variouse countries. Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness. Travel is all that and much more. One of the goals of study abroad is to prepare you to be more effective, respectful of other cultures, and to better understand your own culture and values. Travelling not only teaches you about other cultures, but it also teaches you more about yourself and your own culture. After all, only from the outside can you look back in. Where will your travels take you and what will you see? Travel can be an escape - an escape from the daily grind, an unhappy relationship or perhaps a transitional period between college and the starting a career or between one job and another. Some people travel not so much to go someplace but to get away.

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." Saint Augustine of Hippo Travelling is very important in my life. By travelling I can learn other cultures and discover many extraordinary places. It does not matter how far I go I will always learn something new on my way. There are so many different countries and thousands of languages on planet Earth. Every nation has its own culture, which differs from others. When I have been to some exotic country I can understand the people better because I have seen their culture. Learning different cultures makes everything easier to understand. People who do not travel are missing most of the book, their mind is not so opened and they are unimaginative. They are stuck in their everyday routine. Everything that happens farther than their homeland is very strange for them. I feel sad about people who do not travel

Young people choose their destination to somewhere warm and also by the cost, because what is the point of ,,windbathing" in Europe or somewhere like that. Meeting new people, partying till the dawn and comparing each other tans is really fun and relaxing. I find these vacations very memorable because they are so different from the Estonian summers. Countering

Yes, but it isn't that women don't want to work. For a start, they suffer more discrimination in the work-place. Yes, but other things happen in the world which aren't violent. 7.3 Countering politely (through partial agreement followed by antithesis) That may be so, but traditional costumes were made to be worn more than once. That may be true, but then you're inviting political conflict. Who is going to decide whether North American culture is superior to Chinese culture? That may be so, but for most people the whole point of marriage is to live together and raise a family. That might have been the case once, but you forget that mega-stars like Pelé and Ali were the products. They could pull crowds and make vast sums of money. Well, maybe they do, but they've got to learn to live together. I'm against all forms of segregation.

(according to Nector) “respected as the last hereditary leaders of this tribe. Loss of a cultural identity and Native American spirituality characterizes and separates the two generations in Love Medicine: “They gave you worthless land to start with and then they chopped it out from under your feet. They took your kids away and stuffed the English language in their mouth.” The generations that Erdrich covers experience that loss of culture. The youngest family members (or, perhaps those who attend American schools) are socialized in an American tradition rather than a Native American tradition. With each passing of a generation, vital knowledge of the culture seems to be lost. I think i have more emphaty now. I would recommend this book to people who doesnt have an empathy and also to young people who are still learning how to choose people to trust. I would like to read more novels

Essay about NewZealand and Australia

considered to be somewhat of a mystery. It is known that first Polynesians arrived to New Zealand about 1000 years ago, when navigator Kupe discovered the land in 950 AD. He named it Aotearoa The Land of the Long White Cloud. Although these facts can be debatable, I will focus my attention on this interpretation of Maori history. After the Maori arrived to New Zealand, they started to develop into tribes and sub tribes, this tribal system is still in use. Their culture had almost no influence from the rest of the world. They evolved a culture endorsed by agriculture and hunting. Of course the Maori were warriors as well. They had inter-tribal battles, mostly over territory and the losers became slaves or food. Regardless of that they are historically not to be considered as cannibals. There was only one tribe that were, other tribes just kept the heads of their defeated to secure their mana or enemy's power.
