questions in a survey, given that the other questions are completed. For an introduction see de Leeuw, Hox, and Huisman (2003), for statistical approaches to deal with missing data see Chapter 18 by Rässler, Rubin, and Schenker. Nonresponse error is a function of the response rate and the differences between respondents and nonrespondents. If nonresponse is the result of a pure chance process, in other words if nonresponse is completely at random, then there is no real problem. Of course, the realized sample is smaller, resulting in larger confidence intervals around estimators. But the conclusions will not be biased due to nonresponse. Only when respondents and nonrespondents do differ from each other on the variables of interest in the study, will there be a serious nonresponse problem. The nonresponse is then selective nonresponse and certain groups may be underrepresented. In the worst case, there is a

sequentially from one ring station to the next with a control token circulating around the ring controlling access. Physically, a Token-Ring network is wired as a star, with 'hubs' and arms out to each station and the loop going out-and-back through each. More technically, Token-Ring is a local area network protocol which resides at the data link layer (DLL) of the OSI model. It uses a special three-byte frame called a token that travels around the ring. Token ring frames travel completely around the loop. Each station passes or repeats the special token frame around the ring to its nearest downstream neighbour. This token-passing process is used to arbitrate access to the shared ring media. Stations that have data frames to transmit must first acquire the token before they can transmit them. Token-Ring local area network (LAN) technology was developed and promoted by IBM in the early 1980s and standardised as IEEE 802.5. Token ring networks had significantly superior performance

To pardon it, one must go through what I have gone through, and may God spare her that.' 'Certainly, yes, I will tell her...' Levin said, blushing." Afterwards, Levin comments on his encounter with Anna: "'What a marvelous, sweet, and pathetic woman!' he was thinking as he stepped out into the frosty air with Stepan Arkadyevich. 'Well, didn't I tell you?' said Stepan Arkadyevich, seeing that Levin had been completely won over. 'Yes,' said Levin dreamily, 'an extraordinary woman! It's not her cleverness, but she has such wonderful depth of feeling. I'm awfully sorry for her.'" This is a scene worth remembering, for it involves the meeting of Tolstoy's two main characters. Clearly, they are drawn to one another on some level, probably because each has what the other lacks. Despite their differences, they have some clear similarities. Most

Islam

The assignment of this year as the year 1 AH (Anno Hegirae) in the Islamic calendar was reportedly made by Caliph Umar. It is a lunar calendar, with nineteen ordinary years of 354 days and eleven leap years of 355 days in a thirtyyear cycle. Islamic dates cannot be converted to CE/AD dates simply by adding 622 years: allowance must also be made for the fact that each Hijri century corresponds to only 97 years in the Christian calendar. The year 1428 AH coincides almost completely with 2007 CE. Islamic holy days fall on fixed dates of the lunar calendar, which means that they occur in different seasons in different years in the Gregorian calendar. The most important Islamic festivals are Eid alFitr on the 1st of Shawwal, marking the end of the fasting month Ramadan, and Eid alAdha on the 10th of Dhu alHijjah, coinciding with the pilgrimage to Mecca. History Islam's historical development resulted in major political, economic, and military effects inside

fluorophore at the 3' end. TaqMan® probe functioning While carrying out a TaqMan® experiment, a fluorogenic probe, complementary to the target sequence is added to the PCR reaction mixture. This probe is an oligonucleotide with a reporter dye attached to the 5' end and a quencher dye attached to the 3' end. Till the time the probe is not hydrolized, the quencher and the fluorophore remain in proximity to each other, separated only by the length of the probe. This proximity however, does not completely quench the flourescence of the reporter dye and a background flourescence is observed. During PCR, the probe anneals specifically between the forward and reverse primer to an internal region of the PCR product. The polymerase then carries out the extension of the primer and replicates the 29 template to which the TaqMan® is bound. The 5' exonuclease activity of the polymerase cleaves the probe,

The aim of the current report is to find answers to the questions of how many people are familiar with hypnosis term, how wide is people’s knowledge in this area, what are people’s opinions and experiences. To accomplish this purpose professional literature was indagated and 78 completely different people were questioned. The following hypotheses were set up: 1. People’s knowledge of hypnosis is minimal. 2. People’s negative attitude towards hypnosis is based on negative reports in the media. The data was collected by using questionnaires, comprising of 8 questions concerning people’s basic data (gender, age), knowledge and attitude towards hypnosis, and which source they have got the information from. 10% or so. If you ever feel overwhelmed, though, skip them, as they're not mandatory for the results you're after. RULE #3. PLEASE BE SKEPTICAL. Don't assume something is true because I say it is. As the legendary Timothy Noakes PhD, author or co-author of more than 400 published research papers, is fond of saying: "Fifty percent of what we know is wrong. The problem is that we do not know which 50% it is." Everything in this book works, but I have surely gotten some of the mechanisms completely wrong. In other words, I believe the how-to is 100% reliable, but some of the why-to will end up on the chopping block as we learn more. RULE #4. DON'T USE SKEPTICISM AS AN EXCUSE FOR INACTION. As the good Dr. Noakes also said to me about one Olympic training regimen: "This [approach] could be totally wrong, but it's a hypothesis worth disproving." It's important to look for hypotheses worth disproving. Science starts with educated (read: wild-ass) guesses. Then it's all trial and error

In 1963, the Robbins Report on higher education recommended a major expansion of the British university system, which was realised through the establishment of nine completely new universities and the conversion of the ten existing Colleges of Advanced Technology into full universities. Keele University was established in 1949 but has a similar history and is usually considered part of this group as well. While the Robbins Report was responsible for the broader policy that governed the early development of these institutions Lord Robbins was not responsible for most of the individual institutions as many applications for reclassification had

What is integrated care?

Competition and choice Discussions about integrated care have raised concerns over the role of markets and competition in health care, with initiatives to encourage competition across hospitals and greater patient choice potentially making vertical and horizontal integration more difficult to achieve. For instance, at its worst, integration can be interpreted as a takeover bid `in which the interests of the smaller or less powerful group are completely submerged' (Jones, 1972: p345), raising questions over contestability. Questions remain over the role of competition in facilitating or impeding integrated working. Take the example of an emerging integrated care system in Trafford, where preserving choice between providers at different parts of the pathway is a major challenge in the face of current policy on choice and competition (Ham and Smith, 2010; Shaw and Levenson, forthcoming)

Branch prediction is a technique that attempts to infer the proper next instruction address, knowing only the current one. Typically it uses a Branch Target Buffer (BTB), a small, associative memory that watches the instruction cache index and tries to predict which index should be accessed next, based on branch history. VALERE Yes, yes, I'm free to think so; and my outraged love May yet forestall you in your perfidy, And offer elsewhere both my heart and hand. MARIANE No doubt of it; the love your high deserts May win . . . VALERE Good Lord, have done with my deserts! I know I have but few, and you have proved it. But I may find more kindness in another; I know of someone, who'll not be ashamed To take your leavings, and make up my loss. MARIANE The loss is not so great; you'll easily Console yourself completely for this change. VALERE I'll try my best, that you may well believe. When we're forgotten by a woman's heart, Our pride is challenged; we, too, must forget; Or if we cannot, must at least pretend to. No other way can man such baseness prove, As be a lover scorned, and still in love. MARIANE In faith, a high and noble sentiment. VALERE Yes; and it's one that all men must approve. What! to power. The campaign peaked when “corruption quotas” were disclosed, as the result of which the opposing parties demanded that the Minister of Justice resign. In 2005 the whole government resigned. One of the causes for the resignation was their unsuccessful anti- corruption policy. Unlike politicians the people dealing with criminal law had already for a long time deemed it necessary to reform the Criminal Code in order to develop completely new principles of criminal law. Such principles must develop along with the changes in and progress of society, and also comply with the requirements of the European Union and international treaties. More serious reform started in 1998 when the totalitarian Soviet elements were completely discarded. The reform of the corruption section arose directly from the fact that the Republic of Estonia had signed and become a member state of the Council of Europe Criminal Law

Two central bores, one at the top and one halfway down inside the cylinder block, enclose the cylinder liner. The upper part of the cylinder block forms part of the cooling water space around the central part of the cylinder liner, whereas the lower part forms the scavenge air space. A central bore in the bottom of the cylinder block encloses the piston rod stuffing box. The bottom is double with a hollow space through which cooling water is circulated. On the exhaust side of the cylinder block there is a circular opening leading into the longitudinal scavenge air receiver of the engine. Furthermore, there is an inlet pipe for cooling and lubricating oil. The cylinder block is provided with cleani...

Therefore, this girl cannot tell for sure whether her representation of the external world is accurate. Conclusion: There is no way for us to know for certain what reality really is. In correspondence theories, Truth is the correspondence to reality. But we can never tell for sure what reality really is. Therefore, we can never tell for sure whether our beliefs/representations of the external world are true. Note: This does not mean that reality is completely different from what we think it is. This does not mean that correspondence theories are wrong. Coherence theories of Truth Truth is coherence between beliefs. A belief/representation is true if it coheres with a collection of other beliefs/representations. All dialects also divided in two main chronological categories: the dialects of primary formation (the territory of the Eastern Rus' or Muscovy, roughly consists of the modern Central and Northwestern Federal districts); and secondary formation (other territory). Dialectology within Russia recognizes dozens of smaller-scale variants. The dialects often show distinct and non-standard features of pronunciation and intonation, vocabulary and grammar. Some of these are relics of ancient usage now completely discarded by the standard language. The Northern Russian dialects and those spoken along the Volga River typically pronounce unstressed /o/ clearly, a phenomenon called okanye (). Besides the absence of vowel reduction, some dialects have high or diphthongal /ei/ in the place of Proto-Slavic * and /ou/ in stressed closed syllables (as in Ukrainian) instead of Standard Russian /e/ and /o/. An interesting morphological feature is a post-posed definite article -to, -ta, -te

Vanaaja teadus, mille kolleteks olid Babüloonia, Egiptus, India. Sellel etapil loeti peamiseks ülesandeks koguda teadmisi maailma seletamiseks. 2. Psühholoogia bioloogiline-, kognitiivne- ja sotsiaalne vaade

People start constructing stories and might change them in order to understand and make sense of the situation that personally fits their ideas and values. Neisser and Harsch asked college students about a shocking public event, the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. Interviewed again 3 years later, about half of the participants remembered some details correctly but recalled other details inaccurately. ¼ of the students completely misremembered all the major details and were astonished of how inaccurate their memories were comparing to the original descriptions. Neisser has suggested that the memories are so vivid because the event itself is rehearsed and reconstructed after the event. A flashbulb memory may simply be a narrative convention. In addition, current attitudes and emotions may influence or distort people's memories. Emotion starts with a process of cognitive appraisal to

Optional use of ECDIS

However, in order to replace paper charts, such systems must fulfil considerable technical requirements: • The chart data in use must be official (i.e. official ENCs where available); • The graphic display on the screen must meet the equipment-independent specification; and • The equipment must support the full range of navigational functions that can be performed on the traditional paper charts. Back up requirements No electronic system is completely failsafe. IMO Performance Standards therefore require that the ”overall system” include both a primary ECDIS and an adequate independent back up arrangement that provides: • Independent facilities enabling a safe take over of the ECDIS functions in order to ensure that a system failure does not result in a critical situation; and • A means to provide for safe navigation for the remaining part of the voyage in case of ECDIS failure.

PHP EDASIJÕUDNUD RAAMAT

01 - PHP ja MySQL - Sissejuhatus Teemad  Sissejuhatus  Mis on MySQL  Mis on SQL  Andmebaasi haldamine Sissejuhatus Millega ma nüüd jälle hakkama sain? See sisaldab endas: ...

Õpilaste Suhtumine Seksuaalvähemusse

Resume Sexuality plays an important part in forming one's identity. Alongside love between men and women, love and relationships between people of the same sex have always existed. Discussions about sexuality and especially about attraction towards people of the same sex have been going on for centuries. For a long time romantic and sexual relationships between people of the same sex either received great negative attention or were completely ignored. That lasted for the most part until the 20th century, when sexual roles were redefined and people dared to talk about sexuality. This subject was chosen because the author is interested in how the role sexual minorities play in society is changing. There is little Estonian literature on the topic, so the author wants to give an overview about the problems sexual minorities face and inform about their situation.

Bridges presentation

Educated in Europe, he would have been exposed to the concepts of wire-cable suspension bridge engineering of the French and Swiss. He and Ellet competed for primacy in suspension bridge design. Roebling won out when he took over design of the Niagara Suspension Bridge from Ellet, successfully completing it in 1855 (Figure 17). The inherent tendency of suspension bridges to sway and undulate in wavelike motions under repeated rhythmic loads such as marching soldiers or the wind was not completely understood by engineers until the 1940s, following the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge ("Galloping Gertie"). Credit for designing the first suspension bridge rigid enough to withstand wind loads and the highly concentrated loadings of locomotives belongs to John Roebling. His first masterpiece was the Niagara Suspension Bridge, with a span of 821ft (250m) on the Grand Trunk Railway below Niagara Falls. The two decks, the upper for the railway and the lower for common road service,

sales service, the service quality and the service encounter. The latter two occur mainly due to lack of the client-centered thinking among the service personnel. The after sales must be totally reorganized because the situation revealed there shows that no other strategic service concept element than information is concordant with the theory. 68 In future Esmofon Ltd must completely apply the basics of the strategic service concept. To eliminate the bottlenecks Esmofon Ltd should at first use the internal marketing resources to fix the client-centered thinking among the service personnel. Secondly, finding new and capable leaders should change the service personnel management. The main goals of the present BA thesis were achieved – the activity of Esmofon Ltd is mainly concordant with the strategic service concept principles. The bottlenecks were

Thus he suggests that such scientists are usually new to the field and for various reasons are not under an obligation to operate within the boundaries of the paradigm but instead are able to challenge the paradigm itself. He then goes onto talk about the validations of theories and this gets quite interesting. Kuhn categorises the validation approaches as follows 1. Categorical 2. Probabilistic So the first question to ask about the validation process is whether or not a theory completely accounts for the experimental data. In a categorical model of theories, the theory would be expected to account for all of the data. However this would be unrealistic and Kuhn suggests instead that most scientists consider a probabilistic model of theory validation in which the theory accounts for most of the experimental findings. Another approach to validation of theories is also considered by Kuhn contrasting 1. Identification of evidence for the theory 2. Falsification

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

the coast of Gaul6 and even northern Italy. In 409 AD Rome pulled its last soldiers out of Britain. They were soon followed by the colonists. The Romanized Britons were left to fight alone against the Scots and the Saxon raiders. The following year Rome itself fell to the raiders. Despite their long occupation of Britain, the Romans left very little behind. Unlike Gaul or Spain, they left here neither their system of law and administration nor their language. Latin completely disappeared both in its spoken and written forms when the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain in the fifth century AD. Moreover, most of the Roman villas, baths and temples, the cities they had founded were soon destroyed or fell into disrepair. Almost the only lasting reminders of their presence are place names like Chester, Lancaster and Gloucester which include variants of the Roman word castra (a military camp). 23 Notes 1. In the 1st с

Book Analog Interfacing to Embedded Microprocessors

The system might then try to start with the hood open. In a case like this, use a flag that unblocks the sensor when the hood is closed. A bad LED then looks like an open hood and everything is safe. An even safer method would use a flag that had an opaque strip and a translucent strip. When the hood is closed, the opaque strip passes through the sensor first, but when the hood is closed all the way, the translucent strip is blocking the sensor. The system looks for the signal to be completely blocked by the opaque strip, providing an “opaque reference” level. Then it looks for the translucent strip, which only blocks part of the light, giving a partial output. As soon as the signal changes to indicate either the opaque strip or no flag at all, the system assumes that the hood is open. This protects against unsafe conditions even if the phototransistor is shorted. Or you might use two sensors, one that is blocked when the hood is open and one that is

Kuidas muudab mudelprojekteerimine teraskonstruktsioonide valmistamist ja ehitamist

Although there has been a rapid increase in 3D modeling, in 2010, 2D construction documents still govern. 3D models are handed over to the construction team with a liability waiver, because the architects do not want to bear the extra risk without proper compensation. In addition to 3D shop drawing models, detailers still produce 2D documents, which are often requested by city authorities. The shop drawing review process is expected to become completely digital within the next 5-10 years. The next big step forward in the steel detailing industry is expected to be multi user modeling. In Tekla Structures v.16 this is called “Model Synchronization” and in ArchiCAD v.13 “BIM Server.” The main model is uploaded to a central server, and everyone who wants to gain access, simply logs on and locks the part of the structure they will be working on. This takes collaboration to the next level allowing several people to

The Whigs and Tories were the world's first political parties and over the years to come they were to share government and opposition in a dual party system. The Whigs became the Liberal Party and the Tories became the Conservative Party. *The Glorious Revolution 1688 was the overthrow of King James II of England by a union of Parliamentarians with an invading army led by William of Orange. The Glorious Revolution is also sometimes called the Bloodless Revolution, but it was not completely bloodless. In England there were two significant clashes between the two armies. The revolution led to the collapse of the Dominion of New England and the overthrow of the Maryland's government. James's overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy: never again would the monarch hold absolute power, and the Bill of Rights became one of the most important documents in the political history of Britain.

American Literature

The kind of language Whitman uses sometimes supports and sometimes seems to contradict his philosophy. He often uses obscure, foreign, or invented words. This, however, is not meant to be intellectually elitist but is instead meant to signify Whitman's status as a unique individual. Democracy does not necessarily mean sameness. The difficulty of some of his language also mirrors the necessary imperfection of connections between individuals: no matter how hard we try, we can never completely understand each other. Whitman largely avoids rhyme schemes and other traditional poetic devices. He does, however, use meter in masterful and innovative ways, often to mimic natural speech. In these ways, he is able to demonstrate that he has mastered traditional poetry but is no longer subservient to it, just as democracy has ended the subservience of the individual. The innovations in the poetic technique and subject matter in Whitman's Leaves of Grass (seminar).

The participants in the Zimbardo study were fully informed about what the study would show, so there was no deception. Every participant who took part in the study had the right to withdraw. This was made clear. One participant did withdraw from the experiment after just one day due to his severe symptoms of emotional disturbance. However, the participants felt as though they didn’t have the right to withdraw, even when they went through the degradation and hostility that many ague were completely unethical. There was no way of telling how serious the situation would get throughout the duration of the study. Debriefing. Zimbardo held day-long debriefing sessions. Moral conflicts were discussed.
