Gender equality in higher positions of companies

Companies should be required to allocate a certain percentage of these positions to women. To what extent do you agree? In the 21st century it is all about gender equality and every individual wants to achieve high level position in their work place. In the past, women, in many societies, had less rights and privileges than men. The statement says that companies should give a certain number of higher positions to women. However, I do not agree with this requirement completely. Giving a certain percent of higher positions to women certainly is an easy solution but in my opinion it will bring even more sexism. It shows that women are somehow weaker, fragile and need help for everything. And this on the other hand, will cause a situation where females will receive less credit for their jobs, even if they do their work really well. Every person is unique and has their own set of skills. Companies have to value people's

The Zahir Paulo Coelho

Book review The Zahir Paulo Coelho 2005 331 pages Novel The novel is set in Paris and Kazakhstan. A renowed author discovers that his wife, Esther, has suddenly dissapeared leaving no trace. He gets obsessed of meeting his wife again. During the search of his wife, he meets Mikhail. The author learns the meaning of love, the power of destiny and what it means to follow your heart. During his journey, he is a completely different man. Finally he meets his wife, but everything has changed. I really enjoyed reading this book, because it was really instructive. The story was full of lessons and ethical matters to use in life. I am completely in love with the author, because he doesn't just tell the story, but keeps you thinking about it, and speaks with the readers through the words. I usually enjoy more books with action, but this book is one of the best novels I've read.

Famous person Russell Brand (Describing people) - Essee

This man has sholder-length dark curly and very messy hair, which he has said only works on a man when you are famous, otherwise you would look like a mental illness. He has a short beard and is quite skinny and scruffy looking. Some people have even said that he looks effeminate and homeless. His style is quite hard to describe. Sometimes the man looks very decent and formal wearing suits, ties and even a top hat. On other times he dresses up completely crazily. For example he has been spotted wearing a pirate costume, pajamas, bloody t-shirt, cowboy hat, underwear and even womens dresses. Some would say he is completely insane, but other argue that he is just so brilliant he acts crazy. This man is Russell Brand

Do you consider yourself more functionalist or more conflict theorist?

Do you consider yourself more functionalist or more conflict theorist? Please explain why? Functionalism and conflict theory are very different views of society, but they are not exactly opposites. Both have arguments, that make people think about the society they live in and both have theorists who critize each other. In my opinion, none of the theories are completely wrong but I do tend to agree with people on the conflict theory side. Firstly, functionalism ignores inequality and focuses too much on the positive functions in society. For example racism, functionalists will say that it must be imporant in order to exist as long as it has but in my opinion that sounds quite doubtful. The most problematic part about racism is above all the tension and conflict which comes with it. Seems to me, that functionalists ignore the negative

Pet therapy

Pet therapy.  A kind of treatment designed to stimulate people who are withdrawn or uncommunicative has recently been given a new name: pet therapy. It has given difficult children, lonely old people and even anti-social prisoners a completely new outlook on life  Even though pet therapy is only now being widely used, it is not a new idea. In the eighteenth century an English doctor, William Tuke, filled the grounds of a hospital for mentally disturbed people with chickens, rabbits and goats. At a time when people were usually punished for strange behavior rather than helped, this was a radical new approach to treating the mentally disturbed. Tuke's idea was that patients could learn

Stephen William Hawking

Stephen Hawking has worked on the basic laws which govern the universe. With Roger Penrose he showed that Einstein's General Theory of Relativity implied space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes. These results indicated that it was necessary to unify General Relativity with Quantum Theory, the other great Scientific development of the first half of the 20th Century. One consequence of such a unification that he discovered was that black holes should not be completely black, but rather should emit radiation and eventually evaporate and disappear. Another conjecture is that the universe has no edge or boundary in imaginary time. This would imply that the way the universe began was completely determined by the laws of science. His many publications include The Large Scale Structure of Spacetime with G F R Ellis, General Relativity: An Einstein Centenary Survey, with W Israel, and 300 Years of Gravity, with W Israel

Arkady Shilkloper

Alegre Correa and Austrian bassist Georg Breinschmid. Their debut album ‘Mauve’ (Quinton, 2002) was awarded the prestigious Hans Koller Prize of Austria as the ‘CD Of The Year’. Arkady Shilkloper gives concerts and master-classes around the world ( approx. 100 a year) in: Russia, Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, Panama, China, Korea and Australia. A few years back, Arkady performed in Nõmme sports centre which I also attended with my family and since then, I have been completely enraptured by his music and skills. I, as a french horn player myself, understand the difficulties and of course the beauty of the instrument best and I am absolutely delighted that a man like him exists to use so many different sides of the brass instruments. To master the french horn itself is very difficult, but to use the other brass so skillfully is in my opinion amaizing. I have listend to many professional french horn players around the globe, but Arkady still remains my favorite.

Mid-term 1 in English Phonetics and Phonology

English vowels: a vowel is longest in an open syllable and in monosyllabic words (sea, speed) a vowel is next longest in a syllable closed with a voiced consonant and in two-syllable words (seed, speedy) a vowel is shortest in a syllable closed with an unvoiced consonant and in words with more than two syllables (seat; speedily). Stop Consonants (Plosives). A stop (or plosive) - is a consonant articulation which stops the airflow in the vocal tract completely, the air cannot escape through the mouth. When the articulators come apart, the airstream will be released in a small burst of sound. Aspiration a period of voicelessness after the release of an articulation, e.g. pie [paý] NB! K, p, t are unvoiced/aspirated consonants and g, b, d are unaspirated/voiced consonants. These unvoiced stops are completely unaspirated (spy, sty, sky), because stop is immediately following word-initial s. Fricatives, Affricates, Nasals.

Letter of complaint

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to complain about the mobile phone which I bought from your store and about your customer service. I bought the phone on 15th September. I was told that the phone has guarantee for 6 months. It worked properly for three weeks. Then it suddenly stopped working, the screen went black and the buttons didn’t function. I immedately phoned your helpline and was told that this was completely my fault and i have to pay extra money for the repair. I think that it is unreasonable that I have to pay for the phone repair because guarantee is 6 months. I also think that in the future you should talk to your employees about their attitude. I would like to get my phone repaired for free. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, xy

Dear Sir, I am writing to you to complain about the china figure I ordered from you three weeks ago. I must regretly announce, that your advertisement was wrong in many ways. Firstly, the figure which I ordered was told to be delivered within ten days. But I received it after three weeks and due to that, I could not hand it to my friend in time. Furthermore, there was a crack on one side of the figure; so as a consequence, it also did not look the same anymore because of it. And the gold plaque, where you engraved my message was completely wrong. That is why I could not gift it to my friend after all. As you can imagine already, I am quite disappointed about your company. I also feel that I have certain rights to receive a refund in addition to an apology from your company manager. I look forward to recieiving a quick reply. Yours faithfully, Rainar Kaegas

„People can live one hundred years without really living a minute.“

,,People can live one hundred years without really living a minute." Hundred years is a long time compared to one minute, but many people claim that it is possible to wrap all of those years into that one minute. They have an opinion that all those years only count if you use the time completely, without wasting it on activities and choices that make you unhappy. On the one hand I agree with this statement, people often live their lives without ever doing anything useful or something that really makes them happy. They are often very materialistic and that forces them to make decisions that do not really make them happy and therefore they are not really using the time that they have been given.

I went on the Carribbean cruise and I was completely dissatisfied. Firstly, your advertisement promises large deluxe cabins but they were actually quite small. I did not have room to move around in the cabin. Also the cabin was really dirty. It seemed like it had not been cleaned for a long time. I felt very uncomfortable staying there. What is more, I had to share my bathroom with other guests, which was really unpleasant and annoying. It surprised me because your advertisement said that you have private bathrooms.

Essee: The effects mobile phones have on our lives.

disadvantages. To begin with, many researches have shown that mobile phone radiation may be harmful to human health. If mobile phones are used too frequently it may slightly damage your brain or reduce men's potential in getting siblings. It is also belieaved that mobile phones may cause some sleeping problems. Another, more usual problem what comes with cellphones is that they are expensive to use and when the battery is dead, it is completely useless. Also if parents trust their children to use mobile phones at very young age, the may get surprised when they finally see the bill. Because there are many addictive things like games and ringtones etc, what seem very tempting to buy them. All things considered, I think that mobile phones are rather good than bad to it's users. We all know how mobile phones makes everything easier in this fast pace life, but the disadvantages are rather exceptional

Arguments for and against it are based on moral, practical, religious and emotional groups. On the one hand, there are advocates of the death penalty, who argue that it deters crime, improves community by making them sure, that convicted criminals would never find their way out onto the streets to offend again and it is cheaper than keeping convicted criminals in high security prison for the rest of their natural lives.

The invention of the car changed the world

They are used primely for transporting things and people as well. Cars are very useful for people, but not beneficial for nature. Year after year people buy more cars instead of taking a bus. Owing to this, the air pollution has been doubled up in few years. It's not only nature that gets damaged by cars. People could also get injured and some of them may even die in car accidents. Accidents are caused mostly by people, but sometimes of the technical problems. So cars are not completely reliable. Cars changed the transportation industry forever. No longer did you have to ride a horse or use your energy to ride a bike. All you had to do was sit in a car, push a pedal and it would move for you. Kelli Talving 10.b 220 words

Letter to Kate

the three weeks after Christmas holidays? Well, I've been to school for all those weeks. Last week we watched a really interesting film. The film was about secrets in our Universe. It made me feel more self- confident and I realized that the World is about me and what I want, not about what I will never archive or never get, because if I really want something and work for it, I know I will get what I want. Well, at least some of it. My view of life has changed completely. You definitely should watch it. It's educational and interesting at the same time! Besides it is even as a book. So you can read about that instead of watching the film. I've seen the book at the store, it wasn't very expensive, so I really recommend you to get the film or buy the book. I hope you will reply soon. I miss you terribly and I want to hear what's going on with you. Best wishes, Helen.

Hiiumaa and Saaremaa Hiiumaa is the second biggest island belonging to Estonia. Its largest town is kärdla. Hiiumaa arose from the water about 455 million years ago as a result of a meteorite impact. It is one of the oldest islands in the world. Around the island there are more than 200 islands and islets that have just risen from the water. Hiiumaa is a very beautiful place with kind and friendly people. The landscape on one end of the island is completely different from the landscape the other. In many languages the island is called ,,Day island". The best known sight on Hiiumaa is the Kõpu lighthouse. It's located on the Kõpu peninsula. It is the oldest lighthouse in the Baltics and the second or third oldest lighthouse in the world that has had the light continuously burning. The other big island that belongs to Estonia is Saaremaa. Saaremaa is approximately as big as Tenerife in Spain

I liked the soundtrack too, because it includes some of my favourite songs like "Lose Yourself". This is a film that completely changed my view of the world. I would recommend this film to anybody, who is intrested in gangsta life.

To sum up, I would say that money is definitely not the most important thing in the world, but still, we wouldn't be able to survive if we believed that we don't need any money. Friends and Friendship

My best friends were left in kindergarten. The four of us were invincible. We did everything together and we were enough for each other we didn't let other children to our games. In games as well as in learning, I had 3 great supporters and everything was easy and fun with them. Everyone grows up, so did I and my buddies. Unfortunately we grew apart, because it is hard to meet between all the schoolwork and hobbies. Few appointments at primary school are completely gone now and all of us have found new friends. I didn't find really great friends from my class until about third grade. I went dancing with two classmates and I was connected with others by similar interests. I visited one girl every week and we played together for a while. Recently, my friends have changed, again. I have gotten distant with ones and made new friends, with whom I can laugh endlessly and who will always listen to my problems and give the best advice. I have

Healthy Life

Healthy Life I do not workout. I just do not have time for that and I do not have a mind to do workout sometimes. My way to workout is to play basketball, 90 minutes PE classes once a week and walk with my dog. In summers, I usually watch soccer on television and sometimes play basketball. My mother, father and sister are completely opposites of me. My sister practices swimming and soccer three times a week, including she rides with a bike. My mother bought herself a fitness machine; she uses it twice a week. My father also goes to fitness centre, rides with a bike and runs three times a week. In our family there is only me, who workout with my brain instead to do physical exercises. In addition, my grandparents are not capable to workout; they are too old for that as they say. In my family, many people do different

Travelling in the world

There are many ways how to travel in the world. For example some people like to travel in their own country, other people like to travel trough the world and visit different exotic places. There are also different reasons for travelling. Some travel to learn more about other cultures, learn about other countrys history, others might travel just to have some fun and meet new people. Travelling has many positive sides. When people have traveled to a completely different country, then they can compare the life in their own country and the country they are visiting. It makes people see how they can enjoy their life more. Visiting other places also is very good for practicing other languages and communicating with people. Some people only travel to learn history of other regions. Some countries have invested a lot of money to tourism. They try to make their country more attractive to tourists by building hotels. airports and tourist attractions

"FRIENDSHIP"

It may be weird to consider an animal as a friend, but people who have a dog or a cat should understand what I mean. Whoever tells that animals do not replace human, may be right, because they can not advise you. Moreover, they do not talk at all, but sometimes it is even better. Sometimes animals are better friends than people just because they listen and do not talk out of turn. Which is my vision of a true friend? He or she has to be someone, who I can completely trust. In addition he or she has to be warm-hearted and communicative. A friend should be someone who is really interested in my life and wishes me the best. In friendship there should not be enviousness, tartuffism and lying. Owing to this, I have many friends, but only a couple of them I can call true friends. In conclusion I would like to say that I am sure that almost everybody in this world has at least one friend. It can be a husband, mother, father, sister, first deskmate, coworker or

Studying abroad

There are many advantages of studying abroad. For example it is a good opportunity to travel and get to know different cultures. An exchange student will also get more independent. Also it is a great way to study foreign language and broaden your outlooks. When people study abroad they make a lot of new friends, also some people have even found their love of life. However studying abroad is not easy. First months are hardest because it is a completely different environment, it takes people a lot of time before they feel comfortable in foreign country. Like I said before people have to work hard, because classes are in another language and if people who are not good in foreign language studying abroad might not be a good idea for them. Also some people might get home sickness. In conclusion studying abroad does not suit for everyone. You have to be a good student and have to have a strong personality

Marxism

Marxism  Why to be for Marxism? 1. Belief that a working labour could be seen as joy if a workers sees themselves in the objects they have created. 2. Against exploitation of workers which basically means that workers labour is resold at a higher price than he gets paid for it. 3. Classless society which means that everyone is equal in a basic sense as a member of the tribe and the different functional assignments of the primitive mode of production, howsoever rigid and stratified they might be, did not and could not, simply because of the numbers, produce a class society as such.  Why to be against Marxism? 1. Marxism removes incentive, with the slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” which implies that you should only get what you need, regardless of productivity or skill, which discourages people from working hard, forces production to fall, which red...
