Discuss the representation of the generation of fathers in Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and Sons”

were not human conventions." Indeed, this characterisation is mainly brought forward by typical Turgenev's literary tools; he presents his `fathers' with a radically different generation of `nihilists' and from this contrast, the main critique and description of the very generation of Turgenev himself arises. Freeborn (1960:99) comments that radicalism/nihilism (Turgenev used radicalism) aimed to "to present as objectively as possible the ideological and class antagonisms existing between the fathers and the sons in that crucial year on 1859 when the two wings of the intelligentsia were in open disagreement". 1 From the beginning of the novel, Turgenev allows the reader to unveil the similarities and differences between the generations by portraying their interactions, moods, thoughts and eby their manners of speaking. At the beginning, as Nikolai is waiting for his son, some of the

In general, all children should receive the same education. However, many parents cannot afford to send their children to a private school. I think it is unequal, because some parents do not have enough money. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of state and private schools. Firstly, there are many different facilities in private schools. For example, there are swimming pools, skating rinks, libraries, etc. I have heard that one school has its own drama class. Of course, state schools cannot afford such things like drama classes and swimming-pools. I am very happy because we have a stadion, a gym, and a finess studio. Secondly I would like to bring out free-of-charge textbooks, exercise books and free In conclusion, it is a very good choice to go to a state school. Firstly, there are no fees. Secondly, you will get a high quality aducation. Furthermore lunch in a state school

Why I came to study English essay

exactly did I end up studying English? First of all, as a kid, I was so sure I would be a hairdresser or a teacher or a cook in the future. I am sure that almost every kid thinks the same, when all they have for inspiration are cartoons and toys to play with. When I started school, I was very interested in mathematics and other subjects that required logical thinking, because apparently I was smart in that area at the time. Up until 6th grade I was the best student in our class, winning mathematic competitions left and right and not only that. By that time I had also found out that I loved to write, specially poems and I used every opportunity to submit my works for competitions and I had the luck to win some of them. It felt good to be one of the best students in our class. As the school went on and I finally found myself in 9 th grade, just before the exams, and I realised that in the following years after my graduation from elementary school, my

Advantages and disadvantages of learning in groups

Advantages and disadvantages of learning in groups There are three 10th grades in our school at the moment and the students are shared into seven groups. The groups have different teachers. At first I thought that the groups are made by educational success but this is not true. There are fifteen stundents in my group and most of them are from 10c. Only 4 girls are from 10a and from 10b there are no students in my group. In my opinion it is a great chance to make friends with everybody who graduates the sameyear with me and one of the most important advantages is fellow feeling. I think it is better if the groups are made by educational success. There are weakers and strongers in one group. If the teacher deals only with the strongers, the weakers fall behind and if the teacher deals with the weakers, the strongers are bored. Generally I am for the group system because it will be boring and tedious if we had lessons eve...

If I were the misiter on education

Because of that some students can not afford to eat at school but schooldays are long and it is unhealthy to go all day without eating. School buffet's offer unhealthy chips and pies but very little healthy vegetables and fruits so I would make buffets healthier. Secondly, I believe that it would make classes more effective to watch different educational movies. Doing the same thing from day to day is simply boring and some variety would surely increase students' interest in class. The third thing I would do to spice up life at school is organizing more fieldtrips. There are many different cultural and historical exhibits and museums kids may never visit unless they skip classes to do so. To sum up, I would say that although the Minister of Education could change a lot, our school life today is pretty good.

My Super car - Ford Mustang

My supercar Ford Mustang My supercar is Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the Ford Falcon. Production began in Dearborn, Michigan on 9 March 1964 and the car was introduced to the public on 17 April 1964 at the New York World's Fair. It was Ford's most successful launch. Leading stylist John Najjar, who was a fan of the World War II Mustang fighter plane, suggested the name. The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobile sports car sedans with long hoods and short rear ends, gave rise to competitors such as GM's Camaro , AMC's Javelin, and Chrysler's. Mustangs grew larger and heavier with each model. Although some other pony cars have seen a survival, the Mustang is the only original pony car that has remained in production without interruption after fourty years of development and de...

Computers in every classroom

Computers in every classroom Nowadays computers are becoming more and more unavoidable. We read newspapers from internet, make bank transfers, work and study with them as well. Although computers are making our lifes easier I do not support placing computers to classrooms. Firstly, when students sit in front of the computers from lesson to lesson then their scholastic proficiency will degenerate because they will surf on the internet, chat on MSN and so on. It is doubtless that computers in classroom scatter students attention. Furthermore, computers damage students health. The rays what computer screen vomit are very harmful, so staring at computer screen too much will cause intense damages to people eyes. So from that viewpoint it is absurd to put computers to every classroom. On the other hand, computers in every classroom would make students life easier. They could take notes by computer and a...

My interest in chemical technology

18.09.2012 Mari-Liis Eha 120876KAKB My interest in chemical engineering I studied for 3 years in an english-science biased class in secondary school. My favourite subjects were chemistry and biology. We had many field trips. For instance, we had field trip to Kohtla-Järve to see the oil shale industry and also tours to see the wind generators. This is where my attraction to environment and chemistry grew together and I wanted to know more about further job and education opportunities in this field. I had a chance to be a job shadower at a company called ,,Orto", which is a chemical industry.

Kreooli kultuur

I chose this theme because I am really into all kinds of different cultures. What most exited me in this theme was that I had absolutely no idea who creoles were. Now I now that there were three general groups that made up Creole society: 1) whites who were Creoles, Americans, and inhabitants of European origin made up the highest class; 2) free Blacks, emancipated slaves and their descendants made up the middle class; and 3) slaves who were household property, were the lowest class. The Creoles were the majority of the white population. They had a complex social organization, which included foreign groups such as Germans, Irish, and Spaniards whose names were given a French accent. The people who could trace their noble ancestors called themselves "Creole." Others were "chacas" or tradesmen, "chacalatas" or country folk (peasants), or "chacumas" for anyone with Black blood. English literature

So the disorder and chaos are products of sin and are perpetually striving to come again. Man's only way to salvation is through God's grace. The chain of being is a metaphor served to express the unimaginable plenitude of God's creation, its order and unity. The chain stretched from the foot of God's throne to the meanest inanimate objects. Every tiny part of creation was a link in the chain and there could be no gap. First there is mere existence, the inanimate class: the elements, liquids and metals, next- existence and life, the vegetative class, next- existence, life and feeling, they lead up to man, who has not only existence, life and feeling, but understanding. But as there had been an inanimate class, so to balance it there must be a purely rational or spiritual one: the angels. Every class in the chain may excel in a single particular. Beasts are stronger than men, men have the power of learning (angels don't). Within every class there is

which fifteen shillings go for food, including fuel for cooking. The second part of the book Orwell talks about his principles and the idea of socialism. He talks about how different classes in England get along with one another. It is more than natural that the higher classes reject the lower classes. He was taught the same principles when he was just a child. He comments upon how middle-class communists and socialists often speak against their own class. He talks about his experience as an agent in Burma, where his life was changed. In summary Orwell says that socialism is a nearly impossible thing. MY OPINION This year I knew that I wanted to read G.Orwell for the Home reading book. When I was in the library I first took the book ,,1984". I had started to read it I found out that it had been translated into Estonian and it had been made into a movie. I knew that the ,,Animal Farm" is readable in Estonian too

Ratsionaalse argumenteerimise kriteeriumitele vastava argumentatsiooni koostamine."Eestis on vaja kerged narkootikumid legaliseerida."

Ratsionaalse argumenteerimise kriteeriumitele vastava argumentatsiooni koostamine. Eestis on vaja kerged narkootikumid legaliseerida. Need põhjused on kõigepelt seotud majandusega. Põhjused on ka teised teiste riikide positi...

Using computers for school subjects

Using computers for school subjects Nowadays everything is becoming computerized. Many schools let students use computers for their school subjects. I believe that it is a good thing to have such an opportunity, but I don't think they should use computers for every school subject. Firstly, it is not necessary to have computers in every class. It is normal to have computers in Information Technology classroom, where students learn to use computers for their own good. Sitting in front of a computer screen all day, every day, is bad for students' health, it can damage their eyesight. Also, it will be too expensive. It would be difficult to buy computers for every student. Setting up and updating the software will create additional costs. If schools buy too many

Every school child have allowence

Every school child have allowence. Some children get allowence from parents, some children have to earn ourselves. Lots of children, whose parents do not give Money, have to go to work. If someone going to universty then he get a free place or he have to pay for it. But tuiton is very high, what its hard to pay at a time. In order to pay tiution, students should go to work while studying. Secondly the good thing is, if you work while studing, you always have a allowence. When class is going to travel, then you have the Money to pay for it. And you don't have to ask Money for your parents. Bad thing is that the work disturb studying. Beacuse you have two big obligation, where you can not miss. You don't have time to commit studying and your marks will be Worse. Work while studying is a big burden. Sometimes the work plan dont match with school plan. Therefore you have to miss some lessons. But then you miss the things what the others studied.

We have 4 terms September 1. until October 24., November 2. until December 24., January 11. until March 20. and March 29. until June 5. We get reports every end of the terms. We don't have school uniform, we're allowed to wear, what we want. School lunches are 20 minutes long. Food isn't and don't taste very well. That, when you can go to eat, depends on which number of class you are. In our school are sport days about three times per year Autumn, Winter and Spring. We have competitions between different classes and we have special team with teachers. School parties are about twice a month, but they aren't very cool. It happens very rarely, when the party turns out good, but this is my opinion. We have only one leisure activity that is playing with coffee machine. School should provide computers for students to use for all their school subjects

I strongly believe that schools should have computers but there is no need for all the subjects. Firstly, sitting a long time in front of the computer screen is unhealthy. Students' eyes will be dry and they may have headache. It can also have a negative effect on students' moods. In addition, computer labs' maintenance is expensive. One which can be need to writing and using Internet only, costs not much, but if we need to buy about twenty computers for one class - it is huge amount. Only schools that have a lot of money can afford more machines. On the other hand, notebook can be useful and it doesn't damage your senses and health, but living in 21st century means using computers a lot. Moreover, a computer can be very convenient and useful for students. In conclusion, I think that in the near future students are going to use computers for all their subjects at school, but now we should try to avoid total computerization. I hope that will not be a

Jamaika referaat

The country has been called ,,the most homophobic place on earth". Sport Sport has a very important part in Jamaica. The island's athletes tend to perform to a standrad well above what might ordinarily be expected of such a small country. While the most popular local sport is cricket, on the international stage Jamaicans have tended to do particularly well at Track and Field. Since independence Jamaica has consistently produced world class athletes in track and field. In Jamaica involvement in athletics begins at a very young age. Most high schools maintain rigorous athletics programs with their top athletes competing in national competitions and international meets. In Jamaica it is not uncommon for young athletes to attain press coverage and national fame long before they arrive on the international athletics stage. As we know world famous sprinter Usain Bolt, there are more than dozens of world class sprinters

Essay: What Makes a Good Teacher

do it just for the salary. If she only does it for money, the children will not take her seriously. She should also have a vast knowledge of her subject. Otherwise, it is really difficult for the attentive and eager pupils to get answers to their questions.Another important quality is humour. I believe that helps to make picking up knowledge much easier and more fun. Children always prefer teachers with a good sense of humour. However, tutors should be a litte strict otherwise the class will not behave. Furthermore, the relationship between a student and a tutor should be formal but friendly. That is why co-operation is very significant and necessary. Dealing with misbehaving and troubled children can often be gruelling. For me, theseare the qualities that matter the most. But all teachers are different and there is nothing I can do about it. We, the pupils, just have to make our relationship with the teacher work and hope for the best.

ELSA CLAY

First, yes, we wear uniforms what consist of button-down blue or white blouses or polo shirts and a pleated blue and green plaid skirt. At our school we do not wear a miniskirt teamed with thigh-high socks, pink lipstick and a bare midriff. But we do have casual days when we can dress down at least once a month. Sometimes some of us are barley recognizable without uniform. Second, no boys in our school, and it's a relief not having to deal with the distractions during class time. There are two all-boys school in neighborhood and they hold open dances that are great for checking out prospective prom dates. Third, girls sports are extremely popular in our school. When our school plays another at basketball, our tiny gym is packed with crazy fans cheering on their classmates. Fourthly, here you're not a dork just because you're smart. It's cool be smart and hard-working. And there's plenty of help available for students who need it

The ideal school for my children

The ideal school for my children would be communication-based, blending aspects of social work, conflict resolution, team building, and traditional learning. Classes would be limited to fifteen students, a size small enough to allow individual attention but large enough to furnish the feeling of belonging to a group. In addition, academic lessons would be split into two halves. The first half would be a basic skills seminar, and the second an advanced class. Students would be able to choose whether to stay the second half, or else they could leave to work on their current project, read, or pursue an independent study of another subject. The students who stayed - the "second halfers" - would be known as the students with the greatest passion for the subject. No grades or competition would exist. Rather, the motivation to work would come from a desire to earn the respect of teachers and fellow students and establish a positive self-identity
