The extended mean shift algorithm was also used to try to solve the segmentation of fabric pilling images in [29] by introducing two main steps: image pre-filtering and final segmentation. Laboratory test performed by authors shows that the proposed algorithm can get excellent segmentation if an optimal choice of the 3 required threshold parameters is assumed. Figure 13. composed `Advance Australia Fair' under the pen-name `Amicus' (amicus is the Latin word for friend). `God Save the Queen' was the anthem before it. It was first performed in Sydney on Saint Andrew's Day, 1878. Peter McCormick died in 1916 and `Advance Australia Fair' became free of copyright in 1966. Some of the original words of the song have been changed for the official version. On specifically Royal occasions, both `Advance Australia Fair' and `God Save the Queen' are played. The second choice for the anthem was `Waltzing Matilda'. It is still a famous song and Australians like that song and they sing it. Government and Head of State. The 4 oldest Churches in Tallinn

Toompea was the seat of vassals of the King of Denmark, while the port area between the present St.Olaf's Church and the Russian church destroyed in the fire of 1433 was probably settled by Scandinavian and Russian merchants, respectively. The Town Hall Square, which later became the heart of the medieval city, and the adjacent territory of the Holy Ghost Church may have been occupied by Estonian residents. This has been the explanation of the choice of the site for St.Nicholas Church. In any case, the German merchants became decisive in the further development of the city and the burgers of Tallinn. The first records of the church date back to 1315 and concern and adjacent real estate plot. The oldest grave marker in the church dates back to 1309. The church was probably originally built of stone, since it performed a defensive function besides that of a place of worship the Tallinn town wall had not yet been built

Topic - Canada 2

The term The Crown is usually used to represent the power of the monarchy. Government ministers are ministers of the Crown. Criminal prosecutions are made by Crown prosecutors in the name of the monarch. Since the monarch does not reside in Canada, she appoints a governor general to represent her and exercise her powers. The person who fills this role is selected on the advice of the prime minister. "Advice" in this sense is a choice without options since it would cause a major political crisis if the prime minister's advice were not followed. This convention protects the monarchy. As long as the monarch is only following the advice of her ministers, she is not held personally responsible for the decisions of the government. The governor general has no term limit, but the practice in recent decades is for the governor general to be replaced after about five years in office

It is who you can't see yourself without. *I may forget what you said, but I'll never forget how you made me feel. *You know your in love when the hardest thing to say is good-bye. *Meeting you was fate, becoming your friend was a choice, but falling in love with you was beyond my control. *There are only two times I wanna be with you... Othello opens in the stately city of Venice

and begins to plant small, indiscriminant thoughts of adultery in Othello’s mind, pretending to be reluctant to answer questions and being very circuitous. Othello begins to show his own doubts, declaring Desdemona does not love him any more and that maybe her father was right in that her love for him was unnatural and unhealthy, that he was not good for her. After Iago leaves, he contemplates further the implications, how his wife might already be besot with another man and the choice he would need to make, to clear her from his heart. He tries to push those thoughts away. When Desdemona reappears, Othello is distant and quiet, looking for signs of her unfaithfulness. He brushes aside her handkerchief when tries to sooth the pain in his head and the two soon leave for dinner. Emilia retrieves the handkerchief which Iago has asked her to steal many times. When he arrives, he takes it from her happily and sends her away.

FRANCE (18 December 1986) The applicant, an Italian national, was tried in absentia by an Italian court for abduction and murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Three years later, he was arrested in France by the police, but a formal request for extradition was refused by the Limoges Court of Appeal as the conviction in absentia was incompatible with French public policy. The applicant remained in residence in the Limoges area awaiting trial by the French courts for other offences. On the day that an order was made committing him for trial, the applicant was abducted by French policemen, served with a deportation order (which was over one month old) and forcibly taken to the Swiss border where he was handed to the Swiss authorities. Following proceedings in Switzerland, he was extradited to Italy, under a standing agreement b...

It was a faded red color, with big, rounded fenders and a bulbous cab. To my intense surprise, I loved it. I didn't know if it would run, but I could see myself in it. Plus, it was one of those solid iron affairs that never gets damaged -- the kind you see at the scene of an accident, paint unscratched, surrounded by the pieces of the foreign car it had destroyed. "Wow, Dad, I love it! Thanks!" Now my horrific day tomorrow would be just that much less dreadful. I wouldn't be faced with the choice of either walking two miles in the rain to school or accepting a ride in the Chief's cruiser. "I'm glad you like it," Charlie said gruffly, embarrassed again. It took only one trip to get all my stuff upstairs. I got the west bedroom that faced out over the front yard. The room was familiar; it had been belonged to me since I was born. The wooden floor, the light blue walls, the peaked ceiling, the yellowed lace curtains around the window -- these were all a part of my childhood

(age is not a factor), as well as from those who are at the periphery, the marginal; all of whom have little investment in the prevailing paradigm, and thus have nothing to lose. Those most open to change are those who are not benefiting from the way things are presently structured. Those most resistant to change are those who are benefiting from the present system, and who therefore stand to lose if things were to change. Crisis or Foresight Management? The choice before us is either to be proactive or reactive. A reactive person is one who is overwhelmed and threatened by the challenge of diversity and change, and reacts with a defensive posture. The proactive person, on the other hand, anticipates change by putting into play behaviors which turn problems into challenges. Let me propose a new model of management, "Foresight Management," for bringing about change (see graphic). We all go through experiences in life

William Shakespeare - Hamlet

OPHELIA No more but so? LAERTES Think it no more; For nature, crescent, does not grow alone In thews and bulk, but, as this temple waxes, The inward service of the mind and soul Grows wide withal. Perhaps he loves you now, And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch The virtue of his will: but you must fear, His greatness weigh'd, his will is not his own; For he himself is subject to his birth: He may not, as unvalued persons do, Carve for himself; for on his choice depends The safety and health of this whole state; 27 And therefore must his choice be circumscribed Unto the voice and yielding of that body Whereof he is the head. Then if he says he loves you, It fits your wisdom so far to believe it As he in his particular act and place May give his saying deed; which is no further Than the main voice of Denmark goes withal. Then weigh what loss your honour may sustain,

I was sure I had made the right choice, at least until the day she phoned me to tell me that she has already seen the video - described as 'exclusive' in the advert - on TV the week before, that some of the 'top-quality photographs' were just blurred black and white pictures and that the free membership to your fan club wasn't included (she's still waiting for it now, after two weeks!). the elderly a far more detailed picture of wellbeing is needed and a series of questions has to be asked, each question measuring a specific aspect of well-being. These different approaches are illustrated in the text boxes noted later. Survey methodologists have given much attention to the problems of formulating the actual questions that go into the survey questionnaire (cf. Fowler & Cosenza, Chapter 8). Problems of question wording, questionnaire flow, question context, and choice of response categories have been the focus of much attention. Much less attention has been directed at clarifying the problems that occur before the first survey question is committed to paper: the process that leads from the theoretical construct to the prototype survey item (cf. Hox, 1997). Schwarz (1997) notes that large- scale survey programs often involve a large and heterogeneous group of researchers, where the set of questions finally agreed upon is the result of complex negotiations

In the west grow forests of sequoia. In the NW grow conifers firs, hemlocks, cedars, spruces and pines. Agriculture Agriculture is a major industry in the United States and the country is a net exporter of food. Corn, turkeys, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, and sunflower seeds constitute some of the major holdovers from the agricultural endowment of the Americas. In the U.S., farms spread from the colonies westward along with the settlers. In cooler regions, wheat was often the crop of choice when lands were newly settled, leading to a "wheat frontier" that moved westward over the course of years. Also very common in the antebellum Midwest was farming corn while raising hogs, complementing each other especially since it was difficult to get grain to market before the canals and railroads. After the "wheat frontier" had passed through an area, more diversified farms including dairy cattle generally took its place. Warmer regions saw plantings of cotton and herds of beef cattle

less responsible than the traditional approach. The economics-based problems of NPM were in fact quite predictable, partially because it is not based on genuine economics, so that, for example, quasi-markets were created within administrative organizations in order to create market behavior. However, as any market theorist knows, such behavior can only develop in genuine and not in quasi- (i.e. pseudo-) markets. For example, if there are product monopolies and no free consumer choice if one administrative institution is supposed to have a contract with a predetermined other, regarding a product or service that cannot be delivered by anyone else, for instance , then there cannot be a free market either, nor its beneficial consequences. (See König 2001: 6-7) Likewise, it would be difficult to argue today against the insight that humans do not maximize profits but, at best, benefits as perceived. (See only Falk 2003) They are

Then it's all trial and error. Sometimes you predict correctly from the outset. More often, you make mistakes and stumble across unexpected ndings, which lead to new questions. If you want to sit on the sidelines and play full-time skeptic, suspending action until a scienti c consensus is reached, that's your choice. Just realize that science is, alas, often as political as a dinner party with die- hard Democrats and Republicans. Consensus comes late at best. Don't use skepticism as a thinly veiled excuse for inaction or remaining in your comfort zone. Be skeptical, but for the right reason: because you're looking for the most promising option to test in real life. Be proactively skeptical, not defensively skeptical. Delays are likely to appear between the issue of a new edition of the original chart and the corresponding modified copies. There may also be delays between the issue of Notices to Mariners for the original charts and those produced for the derived charts series. Below are a number of examples of an original chart and three modified copies, which illustrates the variation in the way the chart information is presented

reach 3.35 percent by 2013 and 8 percent by 2018 Existing generation capacity represents sunk costs, and the decision to continue production will depend on marginal costs going forward, not estimated average costs at project inception. For example, the estimated cost of new wind power capacity may be lower than that for "new coal" (estimated average costs for new generation capacity) but higher than for "old coal" (marginal cost of production for existing capacity). Therefore, the choice to increase wind capacity will depend on factors including the profile of existing generation capacity. Theoretical potential Wind power available in the atmosphere is much greater than current world energy consumption. The most comprehensive study to date found the potential of wind power on land and near-shore to be 72 TW, equivalent to 54,000 MToE (million tons of oil equivalent) per year, or over five times the world's current energy use in all forms

Laiatarbe näokreemid ja kasutajate teadlikkus

The research has revealed that the percentage of daily users of face cream is quite high – 62%. However, most of the users do not examine the ingredients, but rather trust the recognition of the brand. At the same time, 84.38% of the users have found that they choose a product with natural ingredients with a higher probability than five years ago and exactly 50% have responded that the marketing statement “natural composition” or “eco-product” rather affects their choice of the cream. Since people’s interest in natural products has increased, users also have to be informed more thoroughly of different certificates related to natural cosmetics. According to the questionnaire, 17.19% of the respondents purchase their face cream from supermarkets. On the basis of the analysis taken from 131 face creams sold at supermarkets, 45.80% contain parabens, 34.35% petrochemicals and 55.73% silicones. Only one-fourth of the creams are free of such substances

CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Imagine being a warm, friendly, loving person filled with feelings of calmness and inner peace. All this is possible for you when you practice forgiveness. In contrast, the refusal or failure to forgive lies at the base of negativity, anger, stress, anxiety, mental and physical illness, and most unhappiness. The refusal to forgive keeps you trapped. For- giveness sets you free. And it is always a choice you make. It has nothing to do with the other person or situation. ■ IT TAKES TWO Some people hold themselves back from forgiving with a false basic premise. They think that by forgiving they are condoning the behav- ccc_tracy_2_18-39.qxd 6/23/03 2:46 PM Page 33 Change Your Life ➤ 33 ior of the person they are mad at. Muhammad began preaching Islam at Mecca before migrating to Medina, from where he united the tribes of Arabia into a singular Arab Muslim religious polity. With Muhammad's death in 632, disagreement broke out over who would succeed him as leader of the Muslim community. Umar ibn alKhattab, a prominent companion of Muhammad, nominated Abu Bakr, who was Muhammad's intimate friend and collaborator. Others added their support and Abu Bakr was made the first caliph. This choice was disputed by some of Muhammad's companions, who held that Ali ibn Abi Talib, his cousin and soninlaw, had been designated his successor. Abu Bakr's immediate task was to avenge a recent defeat by Byzantine (or Eastern Roman Empire) forces, although he first had to put down a rebellion by Arab tribes in an episode known as the Ridda wars, or "Wars of Apostasy". The territory of the Caliphate in 750His death in 634 resulted in the succession of Umar as

SUMMARY My yearpaper is about breast cancer. It is the most frecuent tumor among women. In Estonia, there are about 600 new people diagnosed with breast cancer registered every year. Nearly one third of them are in an advanced stage of cancer. As in most countries, getting cancer is becoming more and more frequent. According to the Estonian Cancer Register, the frequency has increased about 30% during the last decades. The choice of my yearpaper subject was based on that information. It was shocking to learn that breast cancer is one of the biggest causes of death The main reason why cancer is detected too late, is because women are not aware of the risks of getting cancer. Thereforehe the purpose of my yearpaper is to give thorough information about preventing, detecting and treating breast cancer. In my yearpaper I am looking answers to three big questions: What is breast cancer? How to diagnose breast cancer

Portugal has arguably the most liberal laws concerning possession of illicit drugs in the Western world. In 2001 Portugal decriminalized possession of effectively all drugs that are still illegal in other developed nations including, but not limited to, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and LSD. While possession is legal, trafficking and possession of more than "10 days worth of personal use" are still punishable by jail time and fines. People caught with small amounts of any drug are given the choice to go to a rehab facility, and may refuse treatment without consequences. Despite criticism from other European nations, who stated Portugal's drug consumption would tremendously increase, overall drug use rose only slightly, whilst use among teenagers dropped, along with the number of HIV infection cases, which had dropped 50 percent by 2009. On 31 May 2010, Portugal became the sixth country in Europe and the eighth country in the

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

All Quiet on the Western Front Erich Maria Remarque Character List Paul Bäumer - A young German soldier fighting in the trenches during World War I. Paul is the protagonist and narrator of the novel. He is, at heart, a kind, compas-sionate, and sensitive young man, but the brutal expe-rience of warfare teaches him to detach himself from his feelings. His account of the war is a bitter invective against sentimental, romantic ideals of warfare. Read an in-depth analysis of Paul Bäumer. Stanislaus Katczinsky - A soldier belonging to Paul's company and Paul's best friend in the army. Kat, as he is known, is forty years old at the beginning of the novel and has a family at home. He is a resourceful, inventive man and always finds food, clothing, and blankets whenever he and his friends need them. Albert Kropp - One of Paul's classmates who serves with Paul in the Second Company. An intelligent, speculative young man, Kropp is one of Paul...

Mr. Bingley inherited property to the amount of nearly a hundred thousand pounds from his father, who had intended to purchase an estate, but did not live to do it. Mr. Bingley intended it likewise, and sometimes made choice of his county; but as he was now provided with a good house and the liberty of a manor, it was doubtful to many of those who best knew the easiness of his temper, whether he might not spend the remainder of his days at Netherfield, and leave the next generation to purchase. His sisters were anxious for his having an estate of his own; but, though he was now only established as a tenant, Miss Bingley was by no means unwilling to preside at his table-- nor was Mrs

Study of heat transfer coefficient in helical coil

do Outside diameter of the tube m 9 1 Introduction Heat transfer is a very common phenomenon in chemical engineering. Heat exchangers are one of the most common technological devices used in different areas of chemical industries. There are a large number of options available for the exchange of thermal power. The choice usually comes down to different factors, in which the heat exchanger must be performing. One of the most common heat exchangers structure is the tubular form. In the field of tubular heat exchangers, one way is to bend the tube helicoidally, which makes the tube a lot more compact and less expensive, because less material is needed to jacket the tube. Due to the increased number of turns of the helix, additional turbulence is generated inside the tube and

Engineers usually have codes at work, listing principles against sabotage, espionage, fraud, etc. However, this does not solve the ethical issues because principles can conflict: To offer cheaper / more accessible products vs to protect environment. To obey the interests of the company vs to obey the interests of the users. Engineers face moral dilemmas (are condemned to moral failure?). Interlude: Moral dilemmas Moral dilemma: the choice between The satisfaction of doing what is right and The search for the best outcome. Interlude: Moral dilemmas Deontology (Immanuel Kant) - Happiness is not intrinsically valuable. Absolute value is good will. - Good will is the determination to do what is right = to follow moral principles. - Moral principles are rational and all rational beings should follow them. Tere are no exceptions. Moral principles might conflict. How do we justify moral principles?

A New Earth

Until very recently, the transformation of human consciousness – also pointed to by the ancient teachers – was no more than a possibility, realized by a few rare individuals here and there, irrespective of cultural or religious background. A widespread flowering of human consciousness did not happen because it was not yet imperative. A significant portion of the earth’s population will soon recognize, if they haven’t already done so, that humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. A still relatively small but rapidly growing percentage of humanity is already experiencing within themselves the breakup of the old egoic mind patterns and the emergence of a new dimension of consciousness. What is arising now is not a new belief system, a new religion, spiritual ideology, or mythology. We are coming to the end not only of mythologies but also of ideologies and belief systems. The change goes
