War and peace

War and Peace 1) a) Couve de Murville's prediction was very correct. When the Americans withdrawed all of their offers to help Nasser nationalised the Suez canal so that he could use the it's revenues to finance the Aswan High Dam. b) When Nasser nationalised the canal the Brits and the French were outraged because they were the main financiers and shareholders of the Suez Canal. They wanted Nasser destroyed and removed.By August 1956 the British and the French were holding meetings to discuss a possible seizure of the Suez canal by force. The French wanted the Israelis to join their side but it would have been a problem because the Brits had a treaty with Jordan. However, when they found out that Israelis weren't intending to attack Jordan any time soon, the Brits, French and Israelis decided to join their forces against Egypt and started to make plans

Veneetsia

Vaporetto nr 1 viib teid linna ajaloolisse keskusesse, Piazza San Marcole. Paljudesse peatustesse sõidavad kiirliinid. If you could visit three places..

of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, City Hall, Chinatown, Museum of Modern Art and AT&T Park, where I could watch the baseball match of San Francisco Giants. Secondly I'd like to visit Australian city Sydney. I'd certainly go to the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Town Hall, Taronga Zoo and sunbathe on the beautiful beaches. My third and final choice is European city in Italy Venice. It's popular with its waterways. I'd like to travel along the Grand Canal by a Venetian boat called gondola. There are also other sights I'd like to see. For example the Salute, the Ponte dei Sospiri, often called the "Bridge of Sighs", Piazza San Marco and St Mark's Basilica. I find it fabulous to see the Carnival of Venice. In conclusion, I love to travel, so it's difficult for me to choose, but if I could go anywhere in the world, then San Francisco, Sydney and Venice are the cities I'd choose.

Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt (October 27, 1858 January 6, 1919;) was the 26th President of the United States. He is well remembered for his energetic personality, range of interests and achievements, leadership of the Progressive Movement, model of masculinity, and his "cowboy" image. He was a leader of the Republican Party and founder of the short-lived Progressive ("Bull Moose") Party of 1912. Before becoming President (19011909) he held offices at the municipal, state, and federal level of government. Roosevelt's achievements as a naturalist, explorer, hunter, author, and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician. Born to a wealthy family, Roosevelt was an unhealthy child suffering from asthma who stayed at home studying natural history. In response to his physical weakness, he embraced a strenuous life. He attended Harvard, where he boxed and developed an interest in naval aff...

Agreeing & disagreeing

I'm not sure that it works like that. You see today's young live in a different age. If the songs are any good, then surely they'll survive. I'm not so sure about that. Why not? (Because traditions are now under attack from mass production and mass marketing.) Well, I'm not sure whether you can really separate language from culture 6.5 Disagreeing in part ( appeal to logic ) But surely, the canal system is much too slow for industry today. Not necessarily By the time you've loaded the goods onto a truck, you might as well do the whole journey by road. That doesn't necessarily follow. A lot of trade is with Europe and before the Channel Tunnel there was a good container industry. ... the advertiser may pay, but the costs are passed onto the consumer. That isn't strictly true. The United States of America

The continental United States is bounded to the North by Canada and to the South by Mexico. There are two mountain ranges in the continental United States: the Appalachians in the east and the Rockies in the west. In the very middle of the continent is the Mississippi river. The five Great lakes, between the U.S.A. and Canada, are joined together by short rivers or canals. They are connected with the Atlantic Ocean by the St. Lawrence River, and with the Hudson River by a canal. In the west of the U.S.A. there is another big lake called the Great Salt Lake. Hawaii, a chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean, has a tropical climate. Alaska is separated from the continental US by Canada. The history of the USA began when England started creating colonies in the North America in the 1600s. The colonies became independent States and joined to form the "United States" in the 1700s. The USA expanded westward in the 1800s and reached the Pacific Ocean

THE HISTORY OF JOURNALISM

write fantastic reports. For example, if you are interested in sports for a long time, why not to publish your own opinion (cause of big experience) in to the local newspaper or magazine? There is a hope, that public will read your articles and start to listen your opinion, which was created during your long life. You might be a person, who really can objectively and clearly talk about sports events. When I was listening to Pavel Ozerov (Russian 1st canal journalist) he said, that firstly you should choose a profession you like. After that, you can write about it. So, in this way you can help people to understand for example "good" and "bad" sides of your job/profession or inform society about events which are connected with your profession.

Here, the central pier was built on a wrought-iron caisson 37ft (11m) in diameter, sunk to bedrock in 70ft (21m) of water and 16ft (5m) of mud. Another improvement in foundations in the early 19th century involved hydraulic cement. A better scientific understanding of the material by the Frenchman Vicat and the Englishman Aspdin and discovery of the material in a natural state in 1796 on the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames estuary, by Lafarge at Le Teil (France), and by Canvass White on the Erie Canal in New York in 1818, led to its use in sinking foundations by the new method of direct flow into coffer dams underwater, as at the suspension bridge at Tournon (France) in 1824. Hydraulic cement had the amazing ability to set under water, and was consequently used in aqueducts, piers and abutments, culverts, and locks. Hans Christian Andersen

Sellega rikuti peamiselt tema julgus kirjutada ja neid teoseid avaldada, kuna selline kohtlemine põhjustas Andersenis deperessiooni. Anderseni muinasjutt nimega „The Tallow Candle” avaldati Taani arhiivis aastal 2012, kuid kirjutatud oli see juba tunduvalt varem, aastal 1820. Andersen saavutas märkimisväärse edu kirjutades lühijutustuse raamatust „A Journey on Foot from Holmen's Canal to the East Point of Amager”.

Canada. The highest peak is 2000 metres high. The Cordilleras stretch along the Pacific coast with the Sierra Nevada in the south and the Rocky mountains continuing into Canada and Alaska in the north. Their highest point in the U.S.A. is 4540 metres in Sierra Nevada. The five Great lakes, between U.S.A. and Canada, are joined together by short rivers or canals. They are connected with the Atlantic Ocean by the St. Lawrence River, and with the Hudson river by a canal. In the west of the U.S.A. there is another big lake called the Great Salt Lake. The biggest rivers of the U.S.A. are the Mississippi, the second largest river in the world (6420 km), which flows into the Gulf of Mexico, the Colorado and the Columbia, which flow into the Pacific Ocean, and the Hudson River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Ottawa was also well away from the border surrounded by a dense forest, and the War of 1812 had shown how vulnerable the principal Canadian cities were to American attack. Also, the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal network meant that Ottawa could be supplied by water from Kingston and Montreal without going along the potentially treacherous US-Canada border. Laevatatavatest jõgedest suurim on Orinoco jõgi, mida mööda saab sõita 400 km. Jõgi kulgeb ühtlaselt läbi terve riigi. Ülejäänud suuremad jõed on Orinoco lisajõed. Maracaiba järvel on ookeanile sõitvad alused. Suurim kanal on Casiquiare canal, mis on ühenduses Orinoco jõega. Tähtsamad sadamad on La Guaira, Puerto Caabello, Maracaiba, Guidad Bolivar, Cuidad Guayana. d) Meretransport. Tähtsus riigisisestes ja rahvusvahelistes vedudes. Kanna kontuurile suuremad ja tähtsamad sadamad. Venezuelas on meretranspordis olulisemal kohal rahvusvahelised veod. Kõige enam laevu on naftatankerid, neid on 17, kaubalaevu 16, reisilaevu 10, puistlastilaevu 8, kemikaalide tankereid 3. Välismaiseid laevu on 15. 11

E.M.Remarque "Läänerindel Muutuseta"

He becomes generous with food and gets easy jobs for them; he even wins Tjaden over to his side. Good food and rest are enough to make a soldier content. Away from the trenches, Paul and his comrades make vulgar jokes as usual. Over time, their humorous jests become more bitter. Paul, Leer, and Kropp meet three women while they are swimming. They communicate with them in broken French, indicating that they have food. They are forbidden to cross the canal, just as the women are. Later that night, the men gather some food and swim across, wearing nothing more than their boots. The women throw them clothing. Despite the language barrier, they chatter endlessly. They call the soldiers "poor boys." Paul is inexperienced, but he yields to desire. He hopes to recapture a piece of his innocence and youth with a woman who does not belong to the army brothels. Paul receives seventeen days of leave. Afterward, he has to report to a training base, and will
