Black Beauty

He became friends with two other horses, Merrylegs and Ginger. He was cared for by a groom called John Manly, who never used a whip. His wife gave him the name of Black Beauty. He learnt to carry a rider and pull a carriage. Chapters 6 – 8: The stable boy, James, got a better job with a nearby farmer so he was trained by the head groom. One day, when he drove the carriage led by Black Beauty, they nearly had an accident. Thanks to the clever horse, they avoided a broken bridge and got home later but safe. On another occasion, on a trip to Oxford they stopped for the night. A careless man smoked in the stables and caused a big fire. Black Beauty and Ginger were rescued by James but both he and Ginger were unwell after that and had to rest. Chapters 9 –11: Black Beauty saved Mrs Gordon’s life when he ran very fast to bring the doctor to her. He then became ill himself because a new groom didn’t look after him properly when he got back.

Short overview of London

London London is one of the world's great cities. Located in the southeast of England, on the River Thames, it is the capital of the United Kingdom and has been the heart of its political, cultural and business life for centuries. London has always been the centre of the world. The origin of the city may be dated around the beginning of the 1st century when a Celtic tribe settled near the Thames. The Romans founded London about 50 AD. Its name is derived from the Celtic word Londinios, which means `the place of the bold one'. The Romans brought with them forts, roads and the rule of law. Then in 61 AD Queen Boudicca led a rebellion against the Romans. Her army marched on London. No attempt was made to defend London. Boudicca burned London but after her rebellion was crushed it was rebuilt. By the end of the 2nd century, a 6metre stone wall was ...

Indians

LONG BEFORE the white man set foot on American soil, the American Indians, or rather the Native Americans, had been living in America. When the Europeans came here, there were probably about 10 million Indians populating America north of present-day Mexico. And they had been living in America for quite some time. It is believed that the first Native Americans arrived during the last ice-age, approximately 20,000 - 30,000 years ago through a land-bridge across the Bering Sound, from northeastern Siberia into Alaska. The oldest documented Indian cultures in North America are Sandia (15000 BC), Clovis (12000 BC) and Folsom (8000 BC) Although it is believed that the Indians originated in Asia, few if any of them came from India. The name "Indian" was first applied to them by Christopher Columbus, who believed that the mainland and islands of America were part of the Indies, in Asia. So, when the Europeans started to arrive in the 16th- an...

London eye

Almost every component and construction technique would have to be invented from scratch. Glass for the capsules would have to be double-curved and laminated. And transportation of the components would take on a scale reminiscent of pyramid building: delivery would have to be timed to co- ordinate with tides in the River Thames, so that large parts could be safely negotiated under London's bridges. Clearance under Southwark Bridge would be as little as 40 centimetres. One of the world's tallest floating cranes would be needed to lift the massive quarter sections of the rim onto eight temporary platforms floating on the river. Each of the 32 passenger capsules would have to be designed to be just within the maximum width allowed on the French roads over which they would make their way to the English Channel and up the Thames. And it would all happen in just 16 months...

Marke leaves to lead the British to victory, while Tristan eventually dies in Isolde's arms after uttering his last words of "You were right. I don't know if life is greater than death. But love was more than either". Topic: Canada

Topic Canada History The first people to live in what is now Canada arrive from Asia at least 20 000 years ago. They arrived by a way of a land bridge that once connected Asia and North America at what is now Alaska. In 1497, John Capot, an Italian navigator in the service of England found rich fishing grounds off Canada's southeast coast. France took the lead in exploring the country and set up a colony in eastern Canada in the early 1600's. Great Britain gained control of the country in 1763 and thousands of British immigrants began to join the French who remained in Canada. Canada gained its independence from Britain in 1931.

ventured to Baja California. Not until 1542 did Spaniards sail north to Alta California, and Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's expedition of that year made landings as far north as modern Santa Barbara. The Spaniards, of course, were hardly the first to discover this land of wonder and extremes. The earliest Californians were adventurous Asians who made their way across the Bering Straits to Alaska thousands of years ago when a warmer climate and a now-vanished land bridge made such travel easier. These men and women and their descendants settled North and South America, spreading out to form the various nations and tribes whom the first European visitors to this hemisphere dubbed "Indians." The mountain ranges of the Pacific Coast isolated these early settlers from the cultures that developed in neighboring Mexico and the western United States. Still, more than two hundred years passed before Spain made any concerted

History of the USA.

The United States of America. History. For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. There lived only the native people, who had come from Siberia many thousand years ago by a land bridge. They had spread over the country, varying enormously from nomadic food gatherers to fishing societies. Then the Vikings visited Canada around AD 1000, but they did not stay. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America while trying to reach India. He named the native people Indians, because he though he had reached India. He didn't stay either and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French.

the north. · Harold Godwineson returned to London. William chose Hastings as it was at the end of a long peninsula flanked by impassable marshes. Battle was on the isthmus. Harold had been reconnoitering the south of England for some time and well appreciated the need to occupy this isthmus at once. Battle of Hastings · The English army -7,500 men The English army had fought a major battle at Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire less than three weeks earlier, which may have affected its battle worthiness at Hastings. The most formidable defence of the English was the shield wall, in which all the men on the front ranks locked their shields together. · The Norman army -8,400 men William's strategy relied on archers to soften the enemy. The Norman army's power derived from its cavalry -They were heavily armoured, and had a lance and a sword · Normans won the battle.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Tallinna kontserti (30.07.12) retsensioon

Praegused liikmed on Anthony Kiedis (vokalist), Josh Klinghoffer (Kitarr, taustavokaal), Michae...

scattered private homes with the economics and density of a modern apartment building. The project was designed to create affordable housing with close but private quarters, each equipped with a garden. The building was believed to illustrate the new lifestyle people would live in increasingly crowded cities around the world. 8.Cubic Houses (Rotterdam, Netherlands) Architect: Piet Blom This is a housing designed on top of a pedestrian bridge. The main idea behind this is to create a forest of cubes (abstract trees) as each cube represents an abstract tree. The cubes are tilted and sit on hexagon-shaped pole structures. The cubes contain the living areas, which are split into three levels. The triangle-shaped lower level contains the living area. 9.Hang Nga Guesthouse (Crazy House), Vietnam This fantastical place is like a journey into the world of Alice and Wonderland. Improved Windows for Cold Climates

a low solar gain. The good results for window type 3,4 and 5 show that the g- value has a significant influence on the energy performance. A simple and efficient way to improve the g-value is by increasing the glazing area by reducing the frame width. In the new developed window type 4 this is implemented with a frame width of only 25 mm and still keeping a low U-value. The 3- layer glazing with large gaps ensures that use of edge constructions that normally results in a thermal bridge can be avoided. Since the windows with low U-value and high g-value result in positive net energy gain they will contribute to the space heating of the houses. During periods with sunny days the high solar gain can cause overheat-ing problems. Therefore there is a need for developing windows with integrated solar shading devices.

Korda, and others by the Walt Disney Company. A number of his poems were set to music by Percy Grainger. A series of short films based on some of his stories was broadcast by the BBC in 1964. Michael Faraday was an English chemist and physicist, who contributed to the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry. He was born on 22 September 1791 in Newington Butts, now part of the London Borough of Southwark; but then a suburban part of Surrey, one mile south of London Bridge. Faraday studied the magnetic field around a conductor carrying a DC electric current, and established the basis for the electromagnetic field concept in physics. He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and laws of electrolysis. He established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena. His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of
