The Importance of Being Earnest

Oscar Wilde. The play is directed by Peter Joucla and produced by Grantly Marshall. It is played by the American Drama Group Europe. This is a theatre group that travels around the world, so people can see many different plays and performances in English. The play tells the story of two men. One of them, Jack, lives in the country but loves to go to London once in a while. Jack's friend Algernon lives in London but, vice versa, likes to get away from the urbanism. Both of them fall in love with a woman, but the two men make a mistake, they lie about their name. Both say their name is Earnest and as it turns out, that is the name a man should have to marry those women. Of course the lie comes out and that is when the real drama starts. I really liked the play. It is witty and not so predictable as you could guess. Not only the substance is funny, but also the acting and how the cast moves. Some of the actors also play two roles and manage it superbly.

A letter and an essay

Yours faithfully, Introduction This report looks at the dietary habits of twenty students in their final year at Freedonian Secondary School. The report is based on the students' responses to the questionnaire administered by the school's doctor. Meals The survey have revealed that the students do not have enough meals. Only eight of those questioned eat before school, and half of them have their midday meal at school. Worryingly, as few as four students have both breakfast and school lunch. Still more disturbing is the fact that an alarming proportion--approximately onethird--of the students have neither. Eating brown bread Interestingly enough, bread, a good source of fiber, enjoys popularity among young people. 75 per cent of the students surveyed eat three or more slices of brown bread per day, with only a quarter of respondents restricting themselves to one or two slices. Advertisements

Advertisements The mass media is flooded with advertisements of every kind. One only has to flip through the pages of magazines or newspapers or sit through a television program to see the wide coverage that advertisements receive in terms of space and time. Companies fork out large amounts of money just to advertise their products or services. What, the, are the benefits of advertisements ? Advertisements offer a wide variety of options to both potential buyers and sellers. Through advertisements, employers can recruit workers. People who wish to put up their properties for sale can find buyers or vice versa. Although there are grouses about advertisements, the numerous benefits of advertisements remain undisputed. Advertisements are the lifeblood of many television and radio stations. Many companies build a reputation for their products through advertisements. Sometimes

Choices after secondary school essay

Choices after secondary school Many young people decide to go to university after secondary school, while others think that going to work is a better decision. But what are the advantages of both options? There are many advantages that should be pointed out. To begin with, when one is applying to university, there are some tests that should be taken. After just finishing the secondary school, brain is capable of managing the pressure of learning and it is much easier to take the test right away. In addition, if the person knows what she/he wants to study, it would be a good idea to look for the best university and start taking the first steps forward, closer to the dream job.

Helping the environment

To: Ms Head teacher From: Iti Tomingas-Oras Subject: Helping the environment Date: 6th September Introduction The Pupose of this report is to present my findings about heping the enviroment in our school. I have carried out a survey among the students at Kose Gymnasium. My findings are presented below. Findings The first thing students thought was that our school is using and wasting paper. Theatchers do not use both sides of paper while printing. Secondly the students have noticed that the computers are not always turned off at end of the day. They take a lot of power and waste energy if they are turned on overnight. The tird thing I found out is that our school does not recycle and reuse enouhg which is also bad influence for the environment. Reccomendations Firstly, I would like to suggest to reduce paper. For example send more emails or if the printing is really nessesary use both sided of the paper

Estonia vs England

Estonia vs. United Kingdom Comparing Estonia to United Kingdom, you can mostly find out the fact that the weathers aren’t so different, from my point of view atleast. Pretty rainy or wet most of the time, moderate winters and pretty average summers. Taking a look at the state systems, we can see that both countries are parliamentary government types, just the difference is that the United Kingdom is a monachry with a queen and Estonia has a president. From an economical standpoint, United Kingdom surpasses Estonia is most sectors, we can take the GDP as an example, when UK stands at 2.629 trillion then Estonia only stands at a low of 38.94 billion. That’s a huge difference, but we should concider another factor. When

Character sketch - Shel, Orlando by Virginia Woolf

He could not believe that Orlando was a woman because she was ,,as tolerant and free-spoken as a man" and Orlando was astonished because Shel was ,,as strange and subtle as a woman". Surprisingly their relationship did not get weird after that, on the contrary they got along even better and understood each other perfectly. In Shel, Orlando found someone like her, an individual not defined by his gender. He combines qualities of both genders, and is thus compatible with Orlando. Orlando thought that Shel's name suited him because "there was something romantic and chivalrous, passionate, melancholy, yet determined about him which went with the wild, dark- plumed name." His full name showed the multi-faceted aspect of his experiences and personality. Orlando chose to call him "Mar" when she was in a dreamy, amorous mood, "Bonthrop" when she was in a solitary mood, and "Shel" when she was in no mood at all

My best friend

She is not very tall but not short either and she is quite slim. She doesn't like to dress up so I usually see her wearing jeans and a T-shirt or sweater. It seems like she and I are always talking or laughing about something. She has a very nice personality and a wonderful sense of humor but she can also get a little depressed from time to time. I can always count on her to be honest and to give me the best advice. We are interested in many of the same hobbies. We both enjoy music, playing in computer games and surf in internet. We like going to the cinema but sometimes can't agree on which movie to see. Sometimes we just walk around, trying to find a new area of the city to explore. We both like traveling, reading, and swimming. In the holydays we might walk into town and see a movie or stay at home and watch television. Whatever we're doing, it's always fun to be with her. Beowulf(poem and Grendel(book) comparison

Comparison of "Beowulf" and "Grendel" by John Gardner The text has more or less the same meaning in both of the extracts. The differences lie in the language use, character types, speakers, layout etc. In the original "Beowulf" epic Grendel displays nothing but the most primitive human qualities. He is a grotesque monster who terrorizes a small community of Danish warriors. Therefore he can be called a flat character. In the book "Grendel" the protagonist and antagonist have been swapped. Gardner greatly alters the monster's characterization

What Pleases Me about Life in Estonia

What Pleases Me about Life in Estonia Many peole have said, that they do not like living in Estonia. I am one of them, although many people have tried to persuade me to think otherwise. I have loved on both sides of Europe both on the eastern and on the northern part. But there are, of course, some advantages in living in Estonia, too. The first one is definately my family and friends. It is good to live in a country when you know, that you have your loved ones by your side. They can help you in every situation or even when you have nothing to do and you need some entertainment. Also, when your problems seem to grow over your head and you feel that you need to share them with someone.

Living in the countryside – a pleasant experience or a never-ending hardship?

Living in the countryside a pleasant experience or a never-ending hardship? Living in the countryside might be challenging for a modern human being, but it definitely has benefits for both mind and body. Countryside living spaces are usually less polluted, the pace of life is slower and people are more in touch with nature. Still, there is less entertainment than in cities, distances are longer and it can take much more time to get medical help if needed. Moving from city to country has been the traditional path for those in their 30s and 40s, particularly if children are involved. Nowadays flat rates in cities can be more expensive than living in a house in the countryside

Respect For Other People

love men or women or are you religious or not. No one in earth is the same as I am and I am not the same like they are. I have the right to be different and like other people should accept it, I should accept and respect them. To respect other people means some how to make compromises. It means that, we need to find the best possible solution. According to cultural background it can mean different things: mostly it has a positive meaning- as consent, an agreement where both parties win something; in the USA it may rather have negative connotations as both parties lose something. Often young people are using word Respect. Saying this word, it means they acknowledge someone with value. Sometimes respect can be taken wrong, like opening a door for a lady she might think that I as a man do not respect her independency or helping elder people- they might think that we take them as ineffective and powerless.

Short analysis of two phonetics articles

Unbelievable? Well, sociolinguistics, sociopathology, sociophonetics are all very fascinating subjects. Never thought a single word or a sound you make could tell random strangers who you are? Well, prepare to be convinced otherwise. (Well, not solely by these two articles or my short conclusions, of course, it is a very wide field and there is yet much research to be done.) Anyhow, here I have found two research articles, both dealing with whether it is possible to distinguish someone's sexual identity solely based upon a few words, or much less, a single phone. As it turns out, it is. How it is done, is also shown (although I must admit that my current education did not allow me to understand all the details of the methods used) and a lot of research poured into finding out what it is that random people find "sounding gay" or "sounding heterosexual".

The distinction between these instruments is not very clear. At first, both of instruments were called theodolites. The instruments that were manufactured with long telescopes and could not be inverted end for end were called theodolites. As technology developed, people started making instruments with shorter telescopes that could be inverted or transited – these machines were called transits. Time went on and in the end most instruments – both theodolites and transits were

Phosphate Binders: Your Questions Answered

Phosphate Binders: Your Questions Answered What's the deal with phosphate in kidney disease anyway? Phosphate and calcium are both minerals that are essential in maintaining a healthy body. Together, they help build strong, healthy bones and teeth, and also play a role in regular cell and nerve function. Through a delicate process called homeostasis, the body keeps both phosphate and calcium at healthy levels. Both the kidneys and the parathyroid glands play vital roles. First, the kidneys, which activate vitamin D, control the amount of phosphate that is absorbed and excreted from the foods you eat. Second, a hormone called parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulates phosphate by increasing or decreasing the blood's phosphate concentration. A normal blood phosphate level in adults is 3-4.5 mg/dL and a normal PTH is 10-55 pg/mL.

Comparison of diesel and petrol engine

Märt Leppik AT13 17.09.09 Comparison of diesel and petrol engine Similarities Both engines have a similar combustion cycle. The cycle is four strokes long. The strokes are the intake stroke, the compression stroke, the combustion stroke, and the exhaust stroke. During the intake stroke, the piston moves down in time with the opening of the intake valve. This allows the cylinder to become full of an air and gas mixture. This mixture is compressed during the compression stroke, which increases the compression pressure at which the gas mixture will be ignited, or self-ignited

The aim of this report is to compare hobbies of Estonian and Russian young people in Tallinn.

I have seen a lot of Russians in Lasnamäe and in Põhja-Tallinn speaking non of Estonian and receive an impression about that the Russians do not learn languages. But according to the diagram what shows us that 31% Russians learn languages against Estonians whose percentage is 19,6%. And the comprehension about that the Russians learn less languages than Estonians is wrong. The last hobby is folk music. For my surprise, the young Estonian and Russian people both like folk. Some of them are in folk groups. 9.1% of youngsters from both nationalities love it. But 9.1% is not a big percentage. There are many hobbies that are more popular. To conclude, according to these two pie charts it seems that Russians are more active than Estonians. Russians care more about than bodies and health. I think that Russians have more free time because it seems that they have more hobbies. Also it is crucial for more Estonian

Both of them have positvies and negatives sides. I would like to describe both of them positvies sides. Go to the job after high school is very good idea. Especially when you do not know what you want on your life. Lots of my friends went to the job after high school because they have so tired and so sick of the school. Some of them work a year and after that they had thought clear what they want in their life. They go to the school after they had relaxed. Furthermore they study very hard because they have already aim about what they want to study. But some friends who

surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the state Ireland (described as the Republic of Ireland) covers five-sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the north-east. The first settlements in Ireland date from 8000 BC. By 200 BC Celtic migration and influence had come to dominate the island. Relatively small scale settlement by both the Vikings and Normans in the Middle Ages gave way to complete English domination by the 1600s. Protestant English rule resulted in the marginalisation of the Catholic majority, although in the north-east, Protestants were in the majority. A famine in the mid-1800s caused deaths and emigration. Following a war of independence, Ireland was split into: the independent Irish Free State and Northern Ireland, which remains a part of the United Kingdom. The Free State left the

province.[11] But Chinese people were banned from immigrating between 1885 and 1943. Cantonese, historically the language of most Chinese immigrants, is the third most widely spoken non- English language in the United States.[13] Chinese immigration to the United States has come in great numbers. Similar to other American immigration experiences, Chinese immigration has resulted in both hardship and success. Legally all Chinese born in the United States are American citizens as a result of the Fourteenth Amendment and the 1898 Wong Kim Ark Supreme Court decision. However, the People's Republic of China does not recognize dual citizenship and considers the naturalization of a person as an American citizen to imply a renunciation of PRC citizenship.

Gender equality in higher positions of companies

They believe that only men are able to handle the financial decisions and have higher leadership skills, making them part of higher positions in the companies. What I think is that these days more women are career oriented and the society is more open in having a woman on leading positions. In this modern age, women are more enterprising and not afraid of leading the team of co-workers a company or even a country. To sum up, my opinion is that companies should provide equal work criteria to both genders. Both have their own qualities and specialties. I believe that there should not be any discrimination between male and female by their gender in the process of selecting employees. Providing equal rights and opportunities for men and women, creates a pleasant work environment, leading to a better balance of the genders.

Reflective Statement Antigone

Reflective Statement How was your understanding of the cultural and contextual considerations of the work developed during your interactive oral? My comprehension of the traditions and culture of the ancient Greek was substantially enhanced through the discussion we had on the conflict between men and nature in Antigone by Sophocles. The two main characters in the play are Antigone and Creon, who both are motivated by their hubris and the need for glory. In the play, Antigone rebels against the rules set out by Creon, when she attempts to bury her brother even though it has been prohibited by the state. Antigone is sentenced with a death penalty, which is found unreasonable by many of the other members of the society. In the discussion we explored the nature of men and authority in comparison to the natural laws and traditions of the Gods. Sophocles expresses men as the all
