Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras in the USA Mardi Gras, from the French words meaning "Fat Tuesday," combines religious tradition with a carnival or festival to welcome spring. It is also called Shove Tuesday or Pancake Day (in UK pancakes have an important role in celebrating Mardi Gras). Mardi Gras is the final day of Carnival- a festival season. Carnival begins 12 days after Christmas on January 6 and ends on Mardi Gras, which always falls exactly 47 days before Easter. The date of Mardi Gras changes every year. In the year 2008 it is on the 5th of February. "Fat Tuesday" is also the last day that Catholics can eat meat before Lent, the forty-day period of fasting before Easter The cities most famous for their Mardi Gras celebrations include New Orleans, Louisiana; Venice, Italy; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many other places have important Mardi Gras celebrations as well. It is a federal holiday in Alabama, Florida and in 8 counties of Lousiana.

Am I going to marry

Am I going to marry Marriage (or wedlock) is a social union or legal contract between people that creates kinship. For me, marriage is a very important event it makes people care about each other more and understand each other better. I have thought about it to marry in distant future. But before is needed to finish the school. It is not enough, because be some time before that to live together. Must also find a good and rewarding job, because weddings arevery expensive at this time. But if two peoples want to get married then money is not an obstacle. True love can not compare with money and it does not have possible to buy with money.

Hoe to write an argumentative essay?

Each paragraph should begin with a topic sentence. The following sentences should enlarge on the theme, give examples, etc. If it is an essay discussing the advantages and disadvantages of something, the advantages should be grouped together and so should be the disadvantages. One paragraph should only talk about one thing, aspect, etc. If a new thought begins, a new paragraph should be started, too. In essays that express the writer's opinion mainly, one paragraph (usually the last one before the conclusion) should be reserved for the opposing viewpoint. When writing an essay, information should not be unnecessarily repeated. The same is true for grammatical patterns and vocabulary: different grammatical patterns and words make the essay more interesting and easily readable. As an essay is a formal piece of writing, contractions (e.g. isn't, aren't, etc.) are not acceptable because they are not formal enough. S/he can be used instead of the cumbersome "he or she" to save space

Agatha Christie "Partners in crime"

Her most popular characters are the ingenious Belgian Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She achieved Britain's highest honor when she was made a Dame of the British Empire. The Book This book is a short-story collection about two characters who are not as popular as Poirot or Miss Marple. They are Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, a married couple. Tommy works for some kind of a agency which tells them to run a detective agency to catch a Russian spy. Tuppence was delighted because before that she was very bored and she had nothing to do. Before catching the spy they start working as real detectives. They are pretty good at solving mysterious cases because they are great fans of detective novels. Tommy and Tuppence like to role play. Every time they have a costumer they parody all kinds of famous fictional detectives from Dr Thorndyke to Hercule Poirot. Tommy is Poirot in the last chapter when he catches the spy.

Artist report or review

The image of a singing Kalevipoeg is one of the most joyful motifs in the artists entire work. More than 40 drawings and sketches picture Kalevipoeg as a triumphant giant standing on a hillside and singing to his brothees. In Rauds work Kalevipoeg is a joyous king forever young like the dream of ancient country people who wish for a crowned king of their own: a king never crowned. In the spring of 1940, shortly before the forceful incorporation of Estonia into the Soviet Union, the last prewar art event tok place in Estonia the year of Kristjan Raud. That year was dedicated to the artist in connection with his 75th birthday. In the winter of 1942 a few months before his death Kristjan Raud finished his composition entitled The Return of Kalev asymbolic work in those complicated years when Soviet power alternated with German occupation.

Review "THE CATCHER IN THE RYE"

Serious influence, isn't it? On the other hand, this book gave me a lot. It has put me thinking about significant things, as well as J.D. Salinger's novel is a wake-up call for all teenagers and in a sense is inspiring to read because it sends out the message that we should all remain hopeful and true to ourselves. Teenagers can appeal to this story because of its complex themes of rebellion, identity and independence, but I would recommend everyone to read it before becoming an adult because it's the only way you could understand Holden's actions while reading the book! To conclude, I would like to say that I don't regret reading "The catcher in the rye". It wasn't similar to the books I've read before, so that it was something new and uncommon. I think that this is one of those books that everyone should read being a teen. Maybe this book would save from some mistakes we can make being a teenager

Greec wedding traditions

Greek Wedding Traditions Weddings in Greece are quite important, specially in religious people. It all starts with the engagement, which is held in the presence of family and friends. The bride and the groom will exchange rings. After that there is usually a feast to celebrate the engagement. Wedding day is usually Sunday, because it is supposed to bring good luck to the young couple. All the week before the weddings is also important. During the whole week quests visit bride and groom and leave them gifts on their marriage bed. On Wednesday it is customed that relatives come to bride' s and groom' s new house and watch the flour being sieved by a boy and a girl. Through that process there is silence. When there is enough flour people throw coins into it and yell their wishes of good luck. On Friday there is a ritual called " filling of the sacks" . That means that

Submarine

Submarine Submarine is a movie, about 15-year-old Oliver Tate, who has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to extinguish the flame between his mother and an ex- lover who has resurfaced in her life. In my opinion, Oliver was weird. He had his own thoughts and rules like to lose his virginity before his next birthday. He had his own weird friends, and few girl friends. There were times, when Oliver was kind of caring, kind, considering and helpful but most of the times he was very lonely (except being with Jordana). He wanted his parents to love each other passionately and he had pretty much work with this. Then there was Jordana, a girl who was very unusual. To me she seemed a bit angry and kind of shy. She liked to do things that other girls on her age never would do. That pretty much

Speed cameras are not a good way to make our roads safer. Do you agree with this statement?

Speed cameras probably decrease the average speed a bit at the spot where the camera is, but in my opinion they really make driving much more stressful and unsafe. First of all, in our country there are a lot of speed cameras on the roads. Mostly of them are on a straight roads, which even do not need a speed camera. As our country is pretty small, almost everybody driving daily knows exactly where are these speeding cameras. That makes no sense because they slow down before the camera and after it they speed up. Secondly, people are afraid of tickets. They must check their speedometer before the speed camera to hold the speed around allowed level. That takes drivers attention from the road. It may cause severe accidents. Speed cameras have also good side. For example people who get a ticket must pay a fee for it and goverment earns money by this. This money can be spent for to repair or to rebuild the roads.

"See? There's nothing scary here." "Yeah," John said, "Go ahead, Ben." Just then Ben and John saw a large, strange shadow behind the wavy glass in the front door. Suddenly, the shadow started moving towards them! Before they could knock or even think, the door flew open! A large pumpkin stood before them! Ben and John shouted and jumped back with a start! John turned to run away. "Wait! Happy Halloween vampire and zombie!" the large pumpkin said, laughing. "Great costumes! Don't you two want some candy?" John said, "Hey, I remember that voice! I know who you are! You're aunt Mary!" Aunt Mary said, smiling:

Henry Moore

He placed great importance on drawing; even when he had arthritis, he still was able to draw. After the Second World War, Moore's bronzes took on their larger scale, which was particularly suited for public art commissions. As a matter of practicality, he largely abandoned direct carving, and took on several assistants to help produce maquettes. By the end of the 1940s, he produced sculptures increasingly by modelling, working out the shape in clay or plaster before casting the final work in bronze using the lost wax technique. At his home in Much Hadham, Moore built up a collection of natural objects; skulls, driftwood, pebbles, rocks and shells, which he would use to provide inspiration for organic forms. For his largest works, he often produced a half-scale, working model before scaling up for the final moulding and casting at a bronze foundry. Moore often refined the final full plaster shape and added surface marks before casting.

After I turned 13 I've always wanted a tattoo and few weeks ago I finally got it. Tattoo is something amazing, something totally different. You put something on your body something unnatural but what describes you 100 % , means something to you a lot. Of course before I even planned to get a tattoo I found out as much information as I could. While I was doing that I well even more in love with tattoos. Before I got my tattoo I went to see how is it actually done in real life and again it made me want it even more. Few weeks later I got it, at first I was kind of afraid of the pain but it wasn't as bad as I imaged. I am so happy with the result and totally planning to have another one soon. Body art is something that I'm in love with

The school holiday

The school holiday – time for new challenges and adventures Changes and challenges can come in many forms. An holiday is the perfect place to try something new, to push yourself to a new limit and realise your dreams. You can do something that you've never tried before, like going to new places or take part of the adventure games. You can go to the gym or run every day 5 km. I like to go hiking in the woods or just take a daytrip to a city where I have never been before. The other possibility is to go for a mental challenge, like learning new language, or reading an interesting book. It is good challenge to take a science or philosophy book, something that is not so easy to read so you can be proud of yourself after finishing it. It is also possible to learn new skills such as cooking or dancing or making yourself a short film or learn a new computer program. Some people find yourself a job for a holiday and earn money.
