Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (themes, motifs, symbols)

murderous extension of a world that refuses to acknowledge, protect, or preserve true love. The Relationship between Love and Pain - Against the backdrop of war, Hemingway offers a deep, mournful meditation on the nature of love. No sooner does Catherine announce to Henry that she is in mourning for her dead fiancé than she begins a game meant to seduce Henry. Her reasons for doing so are clear: she wants to distance herself from the pain of her loss. Likewise, Henry intends to get as far away from talk of the war as possible. In each other, Henry and Catherine find temporary solace from the things that plague them. The couple's feelings for each other quickly pass from an amusement that distracts them to the very fuel that sustains them. Henry's understanding of how meaningful his love for Catherine is outweighs any consideration for the emptiness of abstract ideals such as honor, enabling him to flee the war and seek her out

Charles dickens

Charles Dickens (1812 to 1870) is generally considered to be the greatest English novelist. He wrote novels that exposed terrible lives of the poor during the nineteenth century in England. His novels draw attention to the dreadful conditions in which so many of London's poor lived at that time. Those novels reflect Dickens' own childhood. Oliver Twist tells the story of an orphan, who after spending his early life in a workhouse is sent to work for a hard taskmaster. Oliver runs away to London, where he joins a gang and become a pickpocket. By chance a gentelman takes pity on Oliver and takes him into his house. Although Oliver is forced to return for a time to gang , he eventually is reunited with his family and lives happily ever after.

Acid Rain

The first one is long-term process and this acidification is result from years of acidic rainfall. Episodic, on the other hand, is rapid change sudden jump in the acidity of water. Acid deposition may influence forest vegetation and soils. It removes soil nutrients such as calcium and magnesium from soils in high elevation forests. Acid rain may also help weaken natural defenses of some trees, making them more vulnerable to some diseases and pests. Acid rain wears away the waxy protective coating of leaves, damaging them and preventing them from being able to photosynthesize properly. Many animals and insects are sensitive to acidification. Frogs are relatively tolerant of low pH, but the insects upon which they feed are not. Lichens, mosses and fungi are also particularly sensitive to acid deposition. Acid rain may lead to increases in nitrogen in forests. Nitrogen is important plant nutrient, but it some situations it leads to nitrogen saturation.

One story

I'll...I'll find a work! Or..." "Lady Mary, calm down please!" "I can't!" cried the girl and hugged Laurel, "She is my little sister... " "I understand, young lady, since my own daughter is seriously ill at the moment." "Oh!" sighed Mary and stopped crying, "I'm sorry..." The man shook his head and said, "It's alright, and I understand how it feels. Now, this young miss here must be taken to the hospital and you, my dear, must go with her." "But I can't! Our parents passed away when Elisa was still a baby and uncle, who's been raising us can't even cook! I mustn't leave my little sister alone!" The doctor thought for a moment and then said, "I know! I have a little cottage in Mellow, a village by the river Ray. Maybe it's possible to take Elisa with me! I'm going there myself with Theresa tomorrow. She could really use some fresh air at the moment. So what you think, lady Mary?" Both of the girls were staring at him, both being shocked by the man's words.

will give up the sin and beg the Lord to forgive her. Melanie is a docile person and a weak soul who refuses to follow her true desires. She is afraid to venture outside the role society has placed upon her. Melanie left to stay with her relatives in Halifax and when Jeanette went to visit her Melanie told her that it was wrong to see each other again. After that incident, Melanie was dead for Jeanette who was angry because Melanie was so weak. Melanie had gone away before starting university and the girls didn't meet until some time later. Melanie had put on some weight and looked serene. She chatted about her course, friends and her holiday plans like nothing romantic had ever happened between the two. One year later they met again. Melanie announced that she was to be married to an army man. Jeanette didn't like the groom. I objected to her getting married to him. And she was serene, serene to the point of being bovine

Past perfect simple and past perfect continious

Past Perfect tenses in general refer to: An event in the past which happened before another event in the past, where there is no time expression to make this clear. By the time I got to the station, the train had left. Compare this with: The train left five minutes before I got to the station. In this example, the sequence of events is made clear by before. The Past Perfect is not used simply to describe an event in the distant past. There must be another past event, less far away in the past, with which it contrasts. When the company went bankrupt, it had lost over a million pounds. The Past Perfect is used to make clear that one action in the past happened before another action in the past. When we arrived home, Anna had gone to bed. George didn’t want to come to the cinema with us because he had already seen the film twice. It was my first time in an airplane. I was very nervous because I hadn’t flown before.

Letter of complaint

Dec 11, 2011 Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to inform you about my bad experiences I had while staying at your hotel from 1st of December to 4th of December. First of all, I stayed at a small room with noisy guests in the next room. Although, I had been told that I would be staying at a large private room far away from other guests. Second of all, the food was terrible. However, the brochure said that you have one of the best chefs in your hotel and that the food will be amazing. Furthermore, when I got the bill, I was shocked how overcharged I was. I assume you will replace my bad experiences with a full refund. I hope that this will not happen anymore and you improve your service. Yours faithfully, Kristi Rapper

The moment I stepped outside, the smells and sounds of Manhattan embraced me and invited me to explore. I was not merely across the country from my former home in San Diego, but seemingly worlds away. Two major metropolises-one endlessly temperate and sensually lazy, the other teeming with life and frenetic energy. In my dreams, I'd imagining living in a walkup in Brooklyn, but being a dutiful daughter, I found myself on the Upper West Side instead. Bullying

Bullying is a very big problem in almost every school. When bullying goes out of the limit, it might end with a terrible gunfire(Colombian massacre). I believe everyone have been bullied by someone and have been a bully for a once. Bullying is an issue that is very important in nowadays and needs a special attention. Some of the ways to bully other people are by: calling you names, making things up to get you into trouble, hitting, pinching, biting and pushing, taking things away from you, damaging your belongings, stealing your money, taking your friends away from you. Now, to talk about why people bully someone there are many aspects. Some bullies do it to get attention or to make other people afraid of them. Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying. It makes bully feel, stronger, smarter, or better than the person he or she is bullying. Some people think that it's one of the best ways to keep others from bullying himself

The Little Prince

The little prince ignores the offer and continues his explorations, stopping to talk to a three-petaled flower and to climb the tallest mountain he can find, where he confuses the echo of his voice for conversation. Eventually, the little prince finds a rose garden, which surprises and depresses him--his rose had told him that she was the only one of her kind. The prince befriends a fox, who teaches him that the important things in life are visible only to the heart, that his time away from the rose makes the rose more special to him, and that love makes a person responsible for the beings that one loves. The little prince realizes that, even though there are many roses, his love for his rose makes her unique and that he is therefore responsible for her. Despite this revelation, he still feels very lonely because he is so far away from his rose. The prince ends his story by describing his encounters with two men, a railway switchman and a salesclerk.

Day in my life I was waking up when i heard knocking at my door. I went to the door and postman was standing there. She was holding a package. Finally my package has been delivered. I greeted him and went looking for my ID card. I ran back to the postman. She was writing down my info while my little brother was trying to talk with me. He was yelling: ,,What is this?" I answered him: ,,It's a package, obviously." My brother started laughing and ran away. Postman asked for a signature and suddenly my phone started ringing. I gave her the signature and crabed the package. I ran downstairs but the caller hanged up already. I started calling back but the phone was busy. Suddenly I heard ringing again. I ran upstairs to pick up the phone but my sister was already speaking with the caller, so I went back downstairs. After my sister finished the call, she told me that the package was for my mother.

It may cause a desire to run far away from problems just because couldn't cope with it. The main thing in school age peoples what causes stress is probably school. Soon enough he finds himself to be completely broke and goes home. To his surprise, his parents are out and he goes to talk to his sister. Phoebe asks him if he has any dreams and who he wants to become. Holden doesn't have an answer right away since he doesn't know his place in the world but then responds that he wants to be a catcher of kids in a field of rye on the edge of a cliff, keeping them from falling down. He gets that idea by misinterpreting a part of the poem to mean "if a body catch a body", rather than "if a body meet a body". In the end of the book, Holden decides to run away from home to somewhere far away from it. When he confronts his sister with his plans, she wants to go with him but

Narrative-story

As soon as I saw the rest of the group at the airport, I realised that I made a dreadful mistake. I shouldn’t have booked this trip alone. I should have invited a friend with me. Rest of the group standing few hundred meters away from me were punks. I mean literally punk people with their weird hairstyles and entirely dressed in black. They seemed so terryfing to me. Few of them noticed me standing here and they gave me smirky smiles. That scared me even more. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy this trip with these guys? I started walking slowly towards them, thinking that maybe I should turn around and not go to this trip. But I payed so much money and waited for this journey for so long

Dream trip My wish would be to go on a trip to the Caribbean Islands with my friends. I would like to go away for a while from Estonia where its cold and windy and enjoy the sun, warm weather, the beautiful sea and the cloudless sky on the beach. The trip to the Carribbean should certainly be with a plane but we would need a car and someone who could drive us. The suncream would protect us from the unsafe sun and we would lie in the shade on palm trees. We wouldn't be interested of sightseeing on this trip because it's a place where you can have much fun and relax

The RRR rule Reduce- reduce your waste. That means, use alternatives to things that you would just throw away. For example: instead of paper cups and plates use ordinary plates. Reuse- Use thing that you have already got or give them to people who need those things. For example: glothes, use newspaper as a wrapping paper. Recycle- recycle thing. It does not take too long and it makes so much differencs Saving energy and your money Save electricity - people use a lot of electricity only because they forget or leave electrical appliances on.

Being an exchange student – a useful experience or a waste of time?

Being an exchange student a useful experience or a waste of time? I have always wanted to be an exchange student. I think that it would be a nice variety to the everyday life. In my opinion being an exchange student is a useful experience, but it also has some negative sides. Firstly there are some arguments that support being an exchange student. If a person has to manage in a totally new environment for a whole year, he or she gets a lot of experience for life away from parents. Exchange year also gives a great language practice. No matter which country an Estonian chooses, it would have a different mother language than we have. Secondly there are soma arguments that do not support being an exchange student. If a person has hard time managing with his or her new life, it could leave a negative view to entire trip. It can also happen, if the person gets homesick and just cannot enjoy the exchange year. I would definitely...

Schools kill creativity

school I had to study mostly only those subjects I’d really need in the future. But I have some relatives younger than I am. The youngest is 9 right now. And when I look at what she must study, well, I studied it in 4th or 5th grade and I didn’t have to study that much with that heavy pressure. He also talks about talent and how we call it. We see a kid with a tremendous ability and we think right away that he or she is so talented. Actually, what I think is that kid had just found something he/she feels passinoate about and practiced a lot. Of course there are some super kids, who haven’t practiced that much but are still very good at what they’re doing. Just not that much as much we think there are. I mean, for a kid it’s easy to look talented. Ken Robinson gave his son as an example - the part where his son plays Joseph and switches the lines with other actor on a premiere

Jää-ajast Inglise keeles!

times of spreading ice sheets of an Ice Age. What do we know about Ice Age mammals? The woolly mammoth was a prehistoric elephant about the size of a modern elephant. This animal lived near the glaciers. It had a shaggy coat of red hair and a thick layer of fat under its skin. On its head and shoulders were humps like camel's humps. Its wool-coat and its fat helped keep the mammoth warm. A mammoth's tusks curved in to form a kind of a snowplow, and the mammoth used them to push snow away. Then it ate the grass that was under the snow. The saber-toothed tiger hunted the woolly mammoth, it probably chose a small, weak one that lagged behind the rest of the herd. It leaped on the mammoth's back, held on with its long strong claws and stabbed the mammoth many times with its fangs. Another prehistoric elephant was the mastodon. It had long red fur and big tusks, but it did not have humps. Woolly mammoth and woolly mastodon were not the only animals with heavy

The country of my dreams

The country of my dreams The counrty of my dreams is Australia. It lies in the Southern Hempishere between the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. One of the resones why i like Australia is its nature. It is recognized as a megadiverse counrty. Its isolation from other continets explains much of the strangeness of its animal and plant life. There are a lot of interesting animals like kangaroos, koalas and wombats and birds like emus and kookaburras. Australia is a highly developed country. It has the sixth largest per capita income in the world. It is said that Melbourne is the world's most liveable cities. Another reason why Australia appeals fo me, is its beautiful beaches and climate. Winters are mils and summers are hot and sunny. Australia's beaches are always full of surfers, and one day i hope i will be one of them . Australians have a very good quality of life. There are a lot of universities, where to ...

Kiri

I was hoping that you could help me answer some of my questions. I have a lot of experience in construction work and also as a salesman, I have worked in several other jobs as well. I will send you my complementary CV later. First I would ask you what type of jobs do you have available in California? It doesn't have to be a construction or a salesman job, it could be something else too. About accommodation, how is it arranged, how much does it cost and how far away is it from the job location? I also wanted to ask you if the plane tickets are included and if they are not how much will they cost me. Another thing I am interested in is the work permit. What do I have to do to get it? Will I have to register somewhere? I will be waiting your response and hopefully you have a good job waiting for me in California. Yours Faithfully Abc cba

Product - ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD

PRODUCT ERGONOMIC KEBOARD A "fixed-split keyboard" is a single board, with the keys separated into two or three groups, allowing the user to type at a different angle than the typical straight keyboard. An "adjustable split keyboard" has the keyboard split into several independent pieces, so the angle between them can be easily changed. Either of these types of keyboards may include elevated sections at various angles. Other ergonomic keyboards have fixed, vertically aligned keys, so the user types with their hands perpendicular to the ground, thumbs-up. Still others allow a range of rotation and elevations. Simple ergonomic keyboards can cost as little as typical keyboards or as much as $995 for high end keyboards. An ergonomic keyboard may reduce muscle strain and reduce risk of Carpal Tunnel syndrome, but there is no clear evidence of benefit. After a user takes the time to adjust to this style of keyboard, these keyboards can make t...

Money Makes The World Go Round

Money Makes the World Go Round Money is powerful. People do everything to get money, the more the better. Some people even kill to get more money or that the other man would not get that much. Why has money become so valuable? When I was a small boy, I thought of money as a piece of paper that my parents give away at the store. Growing up, I have realized the power of this paper. It can get you everything. And by everything I mean absolutely everything. It can get you food, a house, a car, a bike, sometimes even love. When you go outside, then you often see homeless persons looking for bottles. You also see very rich people who seem to have everything but yet they want more. They all ask themselves the same question - how to get more money?

Letter of protest

First of all, the studio offers a large variety of services that aspiring artists can use. Very few students can allow themselves to have this opportunity and kind of equipment at home. Further more, the instructors in the studio help young promising artists discover and develop their talents. Secondly, the art studio is situated in an excellent place and is open round the clock, which is very convenient for the students as it allows them to relax and study there without going too far away from the school. The venue can also be used to host exhibitions where artists can demonstrate their works of art. Thirdly, I feel that it is my responsibility to let you know, unless the arts department’s decision is changed, a protest will be held. In conclusion, it is vital for our school to have an art studio. It is essential for struggling artists of our school but it also helps to promote the school and attract new prospective students. I really hope you reconsider this decision.

Capital punishment. Some people say that capital punishment should not be abolished. In some points I agree with it but in another points I disagree. When somebody kill someone, then it is impossible describe the pain that family members and friends have to feel. So it seems fair to punish murderer in that awful way, but then murderers family members get hurt and it would be vicious circle. Also the death penalty takes away opportunity to regret those horrible mistakes. Some people can change and would live life properly. But then, some people can't change themselves and they could do same mistakes over and over again. Then it seems right again to punish them with the death penalty. Of course from economical side capital punishment is better than maintaining serious criminals at public expence. Because it is quite expensive to feed and cover those lifetime prisnoners.
