Cialdini raamat

When new evidence was presented that questioned the wisdom of decisions that had never left their heads, these stu- dents were the most influenced by the new information to change what they had viewed as the "correct" decision. Compared to these uncommitted students, those who had merely written their decisions for a moment on a Magic Pad were signifi- cantly less willing to change their minds when given the chance. Even though they had committed themselves under anonymous circumstances, the act of writing down their first judgments caused them to resist the influence of contradictory new data and to remain consistent with their preliminary choices. However, Deutsch and Gerard found that, by far, it was the students who had publicly recorded their initial positions who most resolutely refused to shift from those positions later. Pub- lic commitments had hardened them into the most stubborn of all.

and there in place of the more ordinary ones. Most occur in the last 20 columns of the inscription's 222, in a section recording the monuments that Khnumhotep had erected in the service of the pharaoh Amenemhet II. The intention was not to make it hard to read the text. It was to impart a dignity and authority to it, perhaps in the same way that a government proclamation will spell out "In the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty three" instead of just writing "1863." The anonymous scribe may also have been demonstrating his knowledge for posterity. Thus the inscription was not secret writing, but it incorporated one of the essential elements of cryptography: a deliberate transformation of the writing. It is the oldest text known to do so. As Egyptian civilization waxed, as the writing developed and the tombs of the venerated dead multiplied, these transformations grew more complicated, more contrived, and more common. Eventually the scribes

The 4-Hour Body - An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman - Timothy Ferriss

vitamin D, it is important to ensure adequate K(2). Suggested sources include butter from grass- fed cows and the aforementioned lacto-fermented foods. In practice, and as a personal example, this just means I have a few forkfuls of kimchi or sauerkraut in the morning while I wait for my scrambled eggs9 to cook in--what else?--butter from grass-fed cows. Easy peazy. VITAMIN D3--6,00010,000 IU PER DAY FOR FOUR WEEKS One of the top sports scientists in the United States, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted a single anecdote that led me to a closer reexamination of vitamin D: One NFL player I ended up treating had experienced debilitating shoulder pain for years and had two surgeries as a result, all to little or no e ect. Upon testing his vitamin D levels, it became clear that he was severely de cient. Six weeks after taking vitamin D, his shoulder pain was nonexistent. He had two surgeries for no reason. Vitamin D, it turns out, does a lot more than most vitamins.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

and despair towards a positive solution (C sharp major), but the final chord does not confirm this. Raid does not make use of the ‘classical’ principles of treatment in this symphony, but all the form schemes are balanced. Both his symphonies are the sound chronicle of the time but the circumstances have been seen and interpreted from different viewpoints. In the pamphlet added to the recording of the First Symphony, an anonymous critic wrote: The war and the foreign repressive occupiers of Estonia had left their mark. One may detect it in the serious and sober moods. However, the First Symphony ends on quite an optimistic and vigorous note. It almost appears that the last movement with its brisk and brassy sound is grasping at victory and is heading for better times. The creative Canadian period seems less complicated, as a synthesis between the Estonian and Swedish periods

Christopher Vogler The Writers Journey

THE LION KTNG A N D O T H E R P R O B L E M S In the summer o f 1 9 9 2 1 was asked by the executives at Disney Feature Animation to review story materials on a project called "King o f the Jungle." It came to be known as The Lion King and eventually turned into the most successful animated film Disney had done so far, but at the time it was just another opportunity to use the tools of the Hero's Journey on story problems. As I drove to "animation country" in an anonymous industrial district o f Glendale, California, I recalled what I knew o f the project so far. T h i s was an unusual undertaking, a departure from the Disney tradition o f adapting popular children's literature or classics. For the first time it was an original story idea, cooked u p by Jeffrey Katzenberg and his team o f young animators on the company jet. T h e y were on a flight back from N e w York where they had just previewed their latest work, Beauty and the Beast.
