Ghost Story

Ghost story A family of four moved to a little old cottage. One night, when they went to bed they heard music coming from the attic, but when they got to the attic, there was nothing but the wind howling. They did not pay much attention to it because they thought it was just wind. A few weeks later, when they arrived home around 1 pm and found their dog, who almost never barked, barking and acting very strange. He was barking at their garage. The family at first thought it was a cat or some other small animal; the father turned his attention to the garage. The whole family then went to see what was going on, when they opened the old squeaking garage door; they saw an old lady who was sitting in a chair rocking back and forth very slowly. The father went to the car and directed the cars headlights towards the lady, they saw nothing, when he turned the lights out again, and the lady appeared. He did it again, same thing happened. The fam...

Smell The olfactory bulb in dogs is roughly forty times bigger than the olfactory bulb in humans, relative to total brain size, with 125 to 220 million smell-sensitive receptors. The wet nose is essential for determining the direction of the air current containing the smell. General visibility A countershaded animal will have dark coloring on its upper surfaces and light coloring below, which reduces its general visibility. Reasons why human beings are unique

200,000 Japanese people. No other species has ever wielded such power, and no species could. The technology behind the atomic bomb only exists because of a cooperative hive mind: hundreds of scientists and engineers working together. The same unique intelligence and cooperation also underlies more positive advances, such as modern medicine. But is that all that defines us? In recent years, many traits once believed to be uniquely human, from morality to culture, have been found in the animal kingdom (see part one in this two-part series). So, what exactly makes us special? The list might be smaller than it once was, but there are some traits of ours that no other creature on Earth can match. No animal can get close to the devastation humans can cause (Credit: Thinkstock) No animal can get close to the devastation humans can cause (Credit: Thinkstock) Ever since we learned to write, we have documented how special we are. Legen ! Wheel well ,nii inlise kui ka eesti keeles .

Wheel well (rataskaev) This wheel well, first mentioned in 1375, was once one of the main sources of water for Tallinn. The legend says that: Citizen of the town believed that an evil spirit lives in the well and threatens to make all the town wells run dry if it doesn't get regular animal sacrifices. To keep the spirit happy people started to throw dead animals to the well. The main victims appeared to be cats living in the town who were tossed to the well sometimes even live. The practice was so common, that soon it was given a name "Cat's Well". Although the wells in town never ran try the water quality due to sacrifices got so bad that the well couldn't be used anymore from mid 19th century and the cats of the Old Town no longer lived in fear. THE RED FOX GENERAL INFORMATION One of the most cleverest animals found in Estonia is the fox. These attractive creatures can live almost everywhere. Fox habitat may be the forest, brushes or even swamps. They eat mainly small rodents like rats and rabbits but also all kind of bugs, fruits and birds eggs. As well as being good escapers, they have also a good sense of smell, hearing and they can see in the dark. Their homes are holes, which they dig under the ground or take over other animals. The hole has always more than one exit. Foxes are having rat in February and the female animal calves in April. OBSERVING FOXES Catching a sight of an fox in the wild is quite a challenge, because they have a lifestyle where they mainly move and hunt in dusk or at night. Conditions of the productive animals in farms.

more serious. Fact is that something has to be done soon or the problem entrenches so that after a while there is nothing to do that solves the problem. Even more, it is possible that people think it is normal and this is the way how animals who are raised to get something from them, should be treated. The results from the investigation in Finland show that suffering animals are not an exception but a rule in Finnish animal production. Also this material shows that animal suffering is an inseparable part of the production- animals are seen as products and commodities instead of sentient beings. First step to aspire after the wellbeing of productive animals is to raise the awareness of people about how the farm animals are treated during the intense manufacturing. So people and organisations that have already realised the seriousness of this problem have set their sights on showing people that we should care about animals and we as consumers can help to

Teacher's questions

1. What is your favourite food? I'm quite choosy human. I don't eat many things like mushrooms, carrots, eggs, fish etc. My favourite food is French fries with salad. In general, I like fast food. But fast food is not always the best choice. Fast food is not healthy at all. But I eat fast food only then when I'm in a bigger city, because in Kanepi are no fast food places. 2. Are you particular about what you eat? Why? I don't think so. I don't eat any especial things like prawns, unusual animal meat and so on. My eating choice is quite ordinary. And I think that I don't want to try out any animal meat. I think that it's distasteful. 3. What do you consider a healthy diet? I think that healthy diet is quite good choice to reduce weight. But I think that certainly the human who want to have a healthy diet must do the healthy diet in doctor directed. Sometimes the healthy diet is more harmful than useful. But I support that. 4. Do you prefer buying Estonian food to imported food?

It is a required ritual in which all family members have to tell how they were feeling that day. 3. Why had Lily been angry? Lily goes first by explaining the anger that she felt today when someone from a visiting group of Sevens, or seven-year-olds, did not obey the rules about waiting in line. She compares the boy to an animal, but she is not exactly sure what an animal is, and she recalls that she made a fist at him. 4. How do the parents explain the new boy's behavior? Lily's parents remind her of a past experience when she was a Six and had felt out of place while visiting a different community of Sixes, and Lily decides that she now feels sorry for the Seven, who must have felt like a stranger, rather than angry at him. Lily's father got her to

The letter to Australia

anti-English jokes to the English, anti-lawyer jokes to the lawyers and anti- mother-in-law jokes to mothers-in-law. Is is true? Did Australians laugh about you? They are very easy-going by nature. They put a high value on their leisure time. I hope that when I go to Australia, I will see kangaroos and koalas. I have seen they only in Zoo, not in nature. Did you see any animals in nature? Do you know that the cutest animal spends 80% of its time asleep in eucalyptus tree? I didn't know it before. Australian most famous landmarks are an ancient rock in the desert, a modern opera house in Sydney harbour and a huge coral reef off the north-east coast. I remember when you talked about your dream you wanted to visit Sydney opera house. Did you made your dream true? I hope you did it! I hope, that you answer me soon. With best wishes, xxx

"Wild animals in danger". Ettekanne inglis keeles.

many years (sometimes hundreds or even thousands) to grow again. Pollution and destruction change the balance of nature. Each species in a habitat (for example, wood, jungle, marsh or forest) needs and helps the rest. As a result, forests are been cutting down. And what has taken the place of these green, natural places? Houses, farms, cities, streets, roads and factories. Because of this (and pollution, too) several species are dying all over the world. In addition , if one animal, bird or insect disappears, all the others suffer too. And all living beings belong to the circle of life. And when one link is missing, the circle of life can´t function normally. A further problem is hunting. Man has always been a hunter. He still is. But many modern hunters don't just kill for food - they kill for profit. And that´s wrong ! There are, however some solutions. We should make more laws, that protect the animals in danger.

"FRIENDSHIP"

People value different characteristics of others, but it is certain, that a true friend has to be reliable, honest and understanding. Aristotle has said that without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods. I agree with him. I think everyone needs a friend. What is the benefit of money and all other goods if you have no one to share it with? A friend can be your family member, your neighbour, classmate or even your dog. It may be weird to consider an animal as a friend, but people who have a dog or a cat should understand what I mean. Whoever tells that animals do not replace human, may be right, because they can not advise you. Moreover, they do not talk at all, but sometimes it is even better. Sometimes animals are better friends than people just because they listen and do not talk out of turn. Which is my vision of a true friend? He or she has to be someone, who I can completely trust

Tallinna Tehnikaülikool Molekulaardiagnostika õppetool Geenitehnoloogia eetilised, õiguslikud ja ärilised aspektid ,,Kas loomade kloneerimine on eetiline?" Referaat Maria Simmul YAGM-31 1. Sissejuhatus Mis on kloonimine? Teadlased on tänapäeval suutelised saama järglasi ka loomade keharakust. Seda protseduuri nimetatakse kloonimiseks. Niisugusel teel arenema hakkav organism on täiesti identne selle loomaga, kelle keharakust ta klooniti. Praegu on enamikus riikides inimese kloonimine seadusega keelatud. Ometi võib kloonimisest ka kasu olla. Näiteks arvavad teadlased, et kloonimise teel võiks paljundada hävimisohtu sattunud loomaliike. DNA kloonimise etapid: Tavalises kloonimise katses koosneb iga DNA fragmendi kloonimine seitsmest etapist 1. P...

of heaven to blow too roughly on her face. Hamlet doesn't want to remember it, so he closes his ears. He remembers how much his mother loved his father but still not even month passed before she got married again. He just can't think about him and says that women are so inconsistent. Only one month passed that wasn't long even long enough to get her shows old with what she followed her husband. He just can't believe it. He says that even an animal without reason would mourn longer than his mother had but her mother got married to his uncle. He could be his father's brother but he was no more like his father than he was like Hercules. Hamlet believes that her mother got married already before her eyes were swollen because of the salt of her hypocritical tears. Her calls his mother wicked as she rushed into that marriage that enthusiastically. Hamlet believes that it won't end happily but he has to break his

Stalinism

Kommunistlikuks on nimetatud Nõukogude Liitu 1917 aastast kuni 1990. aastate alguseni. 2. Kuidas on see tekkinud?

The Damned Thing Summary

William starts to tell the jury about what he had seen. He visited Hugh to shoot and fish. After greeting each other they began to hunt for deers and reached a field of wild oats where they hid behind a rock because Hugh saw something moving in the oats. Suddenly William heard a shot and everything was covered in smoke. Hugh had pulled the trigger, but there was nothing in the field. After that William heard two extremely different voices: a scream like that of a wild animal and Morgan crying out as if in mortal agony. He gazed at Hugh and it seemed like his body was split into pieces. When he approached the body, his companion was dead. The jury can't believe that an invisible force could do something like that, so one juror asks: „From what asylum did you escape?“ The witness feels insulted by that comment and starts to leave. Just before going out of the door he sees coroner reading the victim's diary and asks for a permission to

Dioxins and furans in the atmosphere

How Are We Exposed to Dioxins? Although formation of dioxins is local, environmental distribution is global. Dioxins are found throughout the world in the environment. The highest levels of these compounds are found in some soils, sediments and food, especially dairy products, meat, fish and shellfish. Very low levels are found in plants, water and air. Most of us receive almost all of our dioxin exposure from the food we eat: specifically from the animal fats associated with eating beef, pork, poultry, fish, milk, dairy products. How can you be exposed to dioxins and furans? You can be exposed to dioxins and furans by eating contaminated food. Dioxins and furans typically stay and build up in the fatty tissues of animals. This means that eating beef, pork, poultry, fish as well as dairy products can be a source of exposure. There are several sources of exposure to dioxins and furans. If you

Ghana

Ghana Ghana, country of western Africa, situated on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Although relatively small in area and population, Ghana is one of the leading countries of Africa, partly because of its considerable natural wealth and partly because it was the first black African country south of the Sahara to achieve independence from colonial rule. In addition to being known for its lush forests, diverse animal life, and miles of sandy beaches along a picturesque coast, Ghana is also celebrated for its rich history--its habitation possibly dating from 10,000 BC--and as a fascinating repository of cultural heritage. The country takes it name from the great medieval trading empire that was located northwest of the modern-day state until its demise in the 13th century. Direct sea trade with Europe, established in the 15th
