It is one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world and is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. The surrounding circular, earth bank and ditch, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Stonehenge was produced by a culture with no written language. Many aspects of Stonehenge remain subject to debate. There is little or no direct evidence for the construction techniques used by the Stonehenge builders. *The Celts in Britain and their legacy The Cets lived in Britain in The Iron Age. They were warring tribes who were battleful amongst themselves as well as inter-tribal war. They were not centrally governed. The Celts brought iron working, iron ploughs and metal swords, horses, wheels and chariots - all these things gave them an instant superiority over the native tribes. The Celts built a number...

Agreeing & disagreeing

5.2 Expressing conditional agreement I'd agree with you if the purpose of hell was to rehabilitate people back into heaven, but hell is usually associated with torture and damnation. I'd certainly agree if you're thinking of the World Cup. 6. I'm afraid I don't agree. 6. DISAGREEING 6.1 Expressing complete disagreement In my opinion, fashion is a complete waste of time, money and resources. I disagree entirely. The world would be a boring place without change. In my view, government money shouldn't be used to support the Arts. I'm afraid I can't agree. Public support for the Arts is the hallmark of a civilized society. Surely, the technology for all this isn't going to be very user-friendly....

The Middle Ages

The English army invaded Wales in 1277. Llywelyn was killed & in 1284 he united Wales with England. Split Wales into 6 counties, encouraged English settlers to go there. In 1301 gave his own baby son Edward (later Edward II) the title of Prince of Wales. From that time the eldest son of the ruling king or queen has been made Prince of Wales. Ireland had been conquered by Norman lords in 1169. Henry II was afraid his lords might become too independent & went to Ireland himself. He forced the Irish chiefs & Norman lords to accept his lordship. He made Dublin the capital of his new colony. He took money & men for his wars. The Norman nobles & Irist chiefs quietly avoided English authority. As a result the English crown only controlled Dublin & a small area around it, known as the ,,Pale". The Anglo-Irish lords built strong castles, some became ,,more Irish than the Irish"....

To Built A Fire Part I ``To Build a Fire'' begins at nine o'clock on a winter morning as an unnamed man travels across the Yukon Territory in Northwestern Canada. The man is a chechaquo (cheechako), a Chinook jargon word meaning ``newcomer.'' This is the man's first winter in the Yukon, but because he is ``without imagination'' and thus unaccustomed to thinking about life and death, he is not afraid of the cold, which he estimates at fifty degrees below zero. He is on his way to join the rest of his companions at an old mining camp on a distant fork of Henderson Creek, and he estimates his arrival time will be six o'clock in the evening. The man is traveling on foot; all he has by way of supplies is his lunch. It is not long before he realizes that the temperature is colder than fifty below, but this fact does not yet worry him. Part II...

"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

"Anna Karenina" Lev Tolstoi Part 1 The novel opens with a scene introducing Prince Stepan Arkadyevitch Oblonsky, "Stiva", a Moscow aristocrat and civil servant who has been unfaithful to his wife Darya Alexandrovna, nicknamed "Dolly". Dolly has discovered his affair - with the family's governess - and the house and family are in turmoil. Stiva's affair and his reaction to his wife's distress shows an amorous personality that he cannot seem to suppress. In the midst of the turmoil, Stiva reminds the household that his married sister, Anna Arkadyevna Karenina is coming to visit from Saint Petersburg. Meanwhile, Stiva's childhood friend Konstantin Dmitrievich Levin ("Kostya") arrives in Moscow with the aim of proposing to Dolly's youngest sister Princess Ekaterina Alexandrovna Shcherbatskaya, "Kitty". Levin is a passionate, restless but shy aristocratic landowner who, unlike his Moscow friends, chooses to live in the country on hi...

Oscar Wilde “The Nightingale and the Rose”

Oscar Wilde "The Nightingale and the Rose" Oscar Wilde was born on 16 October in 1854, he was a successful Irish playwright, novelist, poet and author of short stories. He graduated the Magdalen College. Wilde was sentenced two years in prison that was unkind to his health, after he was released in 1897 he spent his last three years penniless. I read a Oscar Wilde`s fairy tale, it was a bit different of usual fairy tales because it didn't end happily. There was a Student, who loved one girl. This girl was a daughter of the Professor. She had said that she will dance with the Student if he would bring her a red rose. But the problem was that there weren't any red roses growing in his garden and he wept, his face buried in his hands. He was very sad because he can't dance with his love. Fortunately a small bird named Nightingale saw him crying, the bird really...

British History KT küsimused ja vastused

It is a British friend of yours, not a very close friend, but closer than a mere acquaintance. He or she has come to pay you an unexpected visit. You suggest that your friend comes in and stays for lunch. But your friend is embarrassed to find that he or she has called at a mealtime and refuses invitation. You want to persuade your friend to change his or her mind. Here are two possible ways of doing this": A) Please stay. We don't have much, I'm afraid , but we'd be honoured. Whatever we have is yours. B) This is no trouble at all. There's plenty of food. Don't think twice about it. We're used to people popping in. Which of these two do you think would be a more successful way to persuade a British person? A or B? Why? 13. British people like to `dress down' on Sundays. What might be the reason? British people have to follow clothing formalities all week so they really want to take...

How can we reduce air pollution levels in our cities?

I think that it is very important that they don't build them in the middle of cities. The pollution twhat comes from the factories is bigdrastic. In conclusion, there are many ways to make our cities' air pollution levels lower. We all need to do what we can. As the old proverb says "To make things better, you should start with yourself". You address the propts given in the textbook, but in a rather vague way. Don't be afraid to use the expressions and phrases from the textbook The structure of your essay is very good, especially the conclusion. However, since you have not been as precise as the task required you to be and your language use has been rather simple (which is why it is largely correct), the mark is a good strong 4....

Kiusamine

In 54 percent of cases, they reinforced the bully by watching but not joining in. In only 25 percent of cases did peers support the victim. How common is bullying? Toronto's Board of Education has documented that in grades 4 to 8, one child in five was victimized periodically, while one in 12 was bullied weekly or daily. How can you tell if your child is being bullied? Most schoolchildren won't tell you, often because they are afraid of reprisals. But certain symptoms should make you suspicious. These include unexplained reluctance to go to school; fearfulness or unusual anxiety; sleep disturbances and nightmares; vague physical complaints (headaches, stomachaches), especially on school days; or belongings that come home ripped or are missing altogether. If you suspect your child may be a victim, it's best not to ask the question outright. Dr. Sarah...

Topics, step 8, kokkuvõtted mõnedest peatükkidest

Under his nose hi stuck a small moustache. His success was immediate. In 1918 he formed his own company and started producing films. He produced 80 films. The life of his characters was full of misfortunes but he made them funny. Some of his films: "the pilgrim", "gold rush", "modern times", "city lights". He respected everybody, however small he might be. And he was afraid of nobody, however great he might be. After the Second World War Chaplin spoke against McCarthy witch-hunts against Communists and refused to help drive them out of the Hollywood film industry. For that he was "punished" by being deprived of the right to live in the United States. Chaplin said that he would never go back to America. But he went back to accept the highest prize the film industry could offer a special Oscar Award for his brilliant career....

Book Report "To Kill A Mockingbird"

Lee began to write "To Kill a Mockingbird" in the 1950s in New York and published it in 1960. Setting The action takes place in Maycomb, Alabama, a town invented by the author. Between 19331935. Maycomb is a quiet little town and many people there seem to be narrow-minded. Main Characters The main characters are Scout, Atticus and Jem. Scout is a little girl, she is intelligent, thoughtful and brave. She definitely seems boy-like because she isn't afraid to fight with boys. Scout also has a warm heart, she always has best intentions and worries about the poor. Jem, Scouts brother, is entering puberty and is not so stable as Scout. There is seen clear progress in Jem's way of thinking during the novel. Atticus is the widowed father of Jem and Scout and also a prominent lawyer. He is respected by everyone. He is also the idol of Scout and Jem because he fights and stands out for justice. Plot...

"Career and Employment" Homereading

This is where many people come unstuck: either by being too optimistic about sales or by failing to charge enough. Objective market research will allow you to estimate what customers are prepared to pay. You can find much of that from adverts in the local press and from competitors' brochures. Measure yourself against these local competitors how can you make your products or services better than theirs? But don't be afraid of competition as it shows there is a market for what you propose to sell. Now is also the time to start learning about the formal side of running a business. And the easiest way to do that is to visit the Business Link website (www.businesslink.gov.uk) and download their "No-nonsense Guide to Government rules and regulations for setting up your business". This national organisation offers impartial advice and access to a wealth of business information and training courses...

Mina istu...

“You can never go home again“ Lord of the flies

Therefore as the boys were finally rescued they could go home in a literal sense but all of them knew that nothing would ever be the same again. Well-behaved British boys gradually became savages on the island because it was natural that in each of them occured survival instinct when they were afraid . Golding also demonstrated in the novel that savagery in human nature is more fundamental then instinct of civilisation and that is why Jack got all the power to himself in the end and Ralph was left all alone. Author showed how kids lost their innocence during the book and became much more mature and Kristel Sepp TIK IB 09.10.09 grown-up, so when they got the opportunity to go home again, they really were not the same kids as they were in the beginning....
