Harsher punishments will reduce the amount of crime.

won't make the criminals think. They get punished and still commit crimes. Probably the biggest punishment for a petty theft is community service which isn't much of a punishment. It gives the feeling that a person can do what he wants, live like he wants and nothing happens. Furthermore I think that the life in prison is actually quite good. A place to sleep, food and people. Many prisoners who get out of prison are not afraid to go back. They have a stable life there and they are satisfied On the other hand I strongly believe that everything starts at home. People who live in a criminal neighbourhood or in a family with criminal reputation, are not afraid of the punishments. They even find it kind of exciting and it is like a game to them. In conclusion, a big amount of the criminals would definitely think about what they did if the punishments would be harsher. Nevertheless, it is

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government?

How can the issue of intolerance be addressed by the government? Intolerance in society is actually the intolerance of it’s individual members. Intolerance is rooted in fear and ignorance. People are afraid of the unknown, it is natural. But it can only grow, if it gets encouragement, either from parents, who are also ingorant or school, who just do not teach children any better. And fighting intolerance requires Law. Intolerance can be fought with education. Tolerance can be teached at an early age only, later it is difficult change a person’s values. And if intolerance starts with the fear of the unknow, education can help. Government should emphasise education more and more

Love- your worst enemy?

On the other hand, loving someone outside your family is something very different. It can be very painful and yet that pain may be the best thing that had ever happened to you. Most of us start out as just friends and love comes later. Others fall in love at first sight. It takes a lot of courage to become more than friends. What happens if this doesn't work out? It is not that easy to stay friends after a bad break-up. There is one thing you must not be afraid of and that is heartache. Especially young people who are inexperienced and easy to become attached. It is said that you should not fall in love and become too fond of someone when you are young. It think that is wrong. You can not force your feelings down and nobody is too young to. Love does not have age limits. The key to being successful in love is not being afraid of making mistakes and taking risks. You have to be fearless. There may come the time when you have to stay apart

English story "Fatal Walk"

a party. She went for a walk at a park. She had a great evening and she enjoyed all this incredible nature in the park. Angelina was glad that she hadn't gone to party because she felt herself so relaxed. There were a few people in the park, birds were singing and not so warm evening sun was still shining. I felt a little bit chilly myself and it was getting darker too so I decided to go back home. My way back wasn't very pleasurable. I had always been afraid of those dark unlit side- streets but that walk had been good for me so I wasn't afraid that time. But then I heard screaming from one street. I didn't dare to go there but I peeked around the corner and I saw two men fighting with each other. One man had a gun and he was wearing a black mask. The other man was a typical businessman. I didn't hear what they were talking about but then I heard a loud and clear shot and I saw the businessman falling down to the ground

His relationship with his father had changed after his father had become semi-invalid. After the incident Tom’s father was very severe with him. He felt like he had to compete for mother’s attention and frequently spited him with stinging criticism. Tom was afraid of his father. Tom’s mother was aware of the situation but did not intervene. “She took all this in silence. If Father then left the room she would smile briefly at Tom or tidy his hair with her fingers.” Tom wanted to spend as much time with his mother as he could. But when his mother got ill Julie prohibited being around her that much. He did not like the evenings without her. Tom hated and was afraid of going to school because of the bullying. Agreeing & disagreeing

Once the level of benefit is higher than their take-home pay, why should they do a job? Precisely, but the answer isn't to remove benefits from those who really need them. 5.2 Expressing conditional agreement I'd agree with you if the purpose of hell was to rehabilitate people back into heaven, but hell is usually associated with torture and damnation. I'd certainly agree if you're thinking of the World Cup. 6. I'm afraid I don't agree. 6. DISAGREEING 6.1 Expressing complete disagreement In my opinion, fashion is a complete waste of time, money and resources. I disagree entirely. The world would be a boring place without change. In my view, government money shouldn't be used to support the Arts. I'm afraid I can't agree. Public support for the Arts is the hallmark of a civilized society. Surely, the technology for all this isn't going to be very user-friendly.

The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

Before he can post it, lord Henry comes over and comforts him with the news of Sybill Vane's suicide. As years pass Dorian's two-faced personality developes even further. He lives a secret life, where he goes to shady bars to pick fights with foreign sailors, and is suspected of smoking opium. The things he do show up on the painting. At first there are only slight signs of cruelty, but later the face on the painting "deforms". Dorian is really afraid of someone seeing the portrait so he hides it in a locked room. He only shows the portrait to Basil, when he wants to take it to Paris for an exhibition. After Basil comments on the satanic look of the person in the portrait Dorian kills him for no reason. To get rid of the body he blackmails his old friend Alan Campell, who kills himself later on, probably because he was afraid of Dorian revealing the secret. Sybill's brother sweared that he would kill Dorian if he did something to her

Character sketch - Melanie, Oranges are not the only fruit by Jeanette Winterson

However, everything changed after Jeanette told her mother about Melanie. Next time in church the girls were ambushed. `These children of God,' began the pastor, `have fallen under Satan's spell.' When asked, Jeanette admits that she loves Melanie, but Melanie isn't as strong as her lover and she promises to the pastor that she will give up the sin and beg the Lord to forgive her. Melanie is a docile person and a weak soul who refuses to follow her true desires. She is afraid to venture outside the role society has placed upon her. Melanie left to stay with her relatives in Halifax and when Jeanette went to visit her Melanie told her that it was wrong to see each other again. After that incident, Melanie was dead for Jeanette who was angry because Melanie was so weak. Melanie had gone away before starting university and the girls didn't meet until some time later. Melanie had put on some weight and looked serene

Eclipse, Chapter Eighteen – Instruction kokkuvõte

Before the wolves leave, they request to familiarize themselves with the particular scents of the Cullens, so that during battle there are no mistakes. Each wolf, in turn, approaches the individual members of the Cullen family, smelling and sniffing them all. Bella recognizes Jacob as the reddish-brown wolf. She realizes he seems the most relaxed of the pack. Jacob meets her gaze and comes closer. Bella notices that Edward is measuring her reactions, clearly hoping to find her afraid or disgusted by what she sees. But instead of being afraid, Bella reaches out and runs her fingers through Jacob's fur. She is surprised by how it is both rough and soft. Suddenly Jacob licks her across her entire face, laughing and jumping out of the way when she yells and smacks at him playfully in response. Both vampires and werewolves, and especially Edward, are all shocked and bewildered by the encounter. The wolves leave, but Jacob stays behind. Jacob speaks to Edward through his mind,

Study the past, if you would divine the future

"Study the past, if you would divine the future" All people experience different things through out life. We all make mistakes and have our ups and downs. That's the part of living. Having a great life is possible when you are not afraid of making mistakes. The more mistakes you make in the past, the less mistakes you will make in the future. You can easily divine your future when you study things from your past and mistakes. On the other hand, you can't always learn from your past. When your past is full of boringness and dullness, then there isn't much to learn. And also, it is not always good to learn from the past. Because sometimes you look back on your past and make

The point of the letters was that he will always be at her side. Her best friends Denise and Sharon were also at her side, supporting her through it. The first month she had to buy herself a bedside lamp, because they always argued about who had to turn off the light. The second month he hold her to buy a new outfit for herself. Because she always had to look at her best. The third month she had to go sing karaoke. The last time she had done so, it ended badly. She was very afraid, but did it anyway. In the fourth month he says, that he shouldn't be remembered by his belongings, he should exist in her mind. She has to put away all his things. The fifth month she finds out that Gerry had been planning a trip with some friends to Lanzarote. He had already paid for all of it. She just had to enjoy it. My unforgettable chilhood experience

My Most Unforgettable Childhood Experience I was spending my holiday in my summer cottage. It was a warm night and we were playing cards i my friend's balcony. It was about 1o'clock a.m. and we were getting sleepy. We decided to go to sleep and as my parents were already sleeping , I had to go home by myself. There is a forest near our house and a little lamp with green shimmer leads into the forest. When I looked straight to it, I saw a man in a black coat, who was standing in a green light. At the same time my friend shouted something to me and I turned my head. When I looked back the man had dissapeared. I was terrified and ran home. I was still trembling when I got in to my bed. In the morning I was retelling the story to my parents and when I finished, they gave me a big hug to me. When I asked, what was going on they said that they're really happy that I...

EUTHANASIA

practising euthanasia as an inproper exctension of their role as carers. Throughout centuries the doctors' purpose in life has been to cure suffering, how can they be expected to do otherwise, even if it's done for a good cause. The issue has been misinterpreted by some people. They seem to be of the opinion that practicing euthanasia would turn nursing homes into places of fear and elderly people in residencial home are afraid that they will be a candidate. For whatever motive it may be done, all civilisations, all religions have regarded this as morally wrong.

Smacking children

Smacking children Parents all over the world use smacking in the purpose of discipline, even though in reality it is child abuse. Children's behaviour needs to be controlled but they shouldn't be suffering. Firstly it seems to me that parents who continuously beat their children don't care about them. Although few slight slaps for punishment are enough parents still beat them hard. Parents should be the ones who protect children not the ones who children have to be afraid of. In addition some parents equate smacking with discipline although these two are not the same. Teaching is discipline, smacking is punishment. Parents who don't smack their children still discipline them. They are just using ways that don't involve pain. Moreover the law is against all kinds of physical punishments. Some parents still keep beating their children. They think that it's their own business how they raise their kids but law is for everybody

Speed cameras are not a good way to make our roads safer. Do you agree with this statement?

camera is, but in my opinion they really make driving much more stressful and unsafe. First of all, in our country there are a lot of speed cameras on the roads. Mostly of them are on a straight roads, which even do not need a speed camera. As our country is pretty small, almost everybody driving daily knows exactly where are these speeding cameras. That makes no sense because they slow down before the camera and after it they speed up. Secondly, people are afraid of tickets. They must check their speedometer before the speed camera to hold the speed around allowed level. That takes drivers attention from the road. It may cause severe accidents. Speed cameras have also good side. For example people who get a ticket must pay a fee for it and goverment earns money by this. This money can be spent for to repair or to rebuild the roads. In conclusion, I think that speed cameras are useless in Estonia. They harm more than they save.

British Literature Character Sketch, The Cement Garden-Julie

wouldn’t be good for her reputation. In spite of all this, Jack couldn’t get enough of observing her. But Julie herself gave little away, she dominated her group and heightened her reputation with a disruptive, intimidating quietness. Julie could run like the wind, but she walked as though asleep, dead slow, straight-backed, and in a very straight line. She often appeared deep in thought, but when we asked her she always protested that her mind was empty. Her silence made us all a little afraid of her, but again she would protest her voice musical with bemusement, that she was the only one who was afraid. It was true, she was shy - there was a rumor she never spoke in class without blushing - but she had the quiet strength and detachment, and lived in the separate world of those who are, and secretly know they are, exceptionally beautiful. Jack is envious of Julie due to her close relationship with their mother and Sue. Mother used to trust Julie more and also told her

The body as art.

Tattoo is something amazing, something totally different. You put something on your body something unnatural but what describes you 100 % , means something to you a lot. Of course before I even planned to get a tattoo I found out as much information as I could. While I was doing that I well even more in love with tattoos. Before I got my tattoo I went to see how is it actually done in real life and again it made me want it even more. Few weeks later I got it, at first I was kind of afraid of the pain but it wasn't as bad as I imaged. I am so happy with the result and totally planning to have another one soon. Body art is something that I'm in love with. I feel like most of the people should know the pain of getting a tattoo, because it is really amazing to know, that you are doing something painful to have a art in your body.

Report - how to make buildings more crime-proof

impudent. Recommendation: Security systems and security cameras should be installed in the buildings. That increases the chance that the criminals will be caught or they dare not to commit the crime. 3 Dogs Finally, burglars can easily hide themselves behind the trees and other objects in the garden. They watch for what happens in the house and that helps them to plan their crime. Recommendation: House-owners who have a garden should take a dog. Burglars are usually afraid of dogs. In addition, dogs bark if they hear or see something that does not belong in the garden. Conclusion Increase in crime is a big problem. However, I think we can tackle it if everybody will follow the recommendations in this report.

How can we reduce air pollution levels in our cities?

factories. I think that it is very important that they don't build them in the middle of cities. The pollution twhat comes from the factories is bigdrastic. In conclusion, there are many ways to make our cities' air pollution levels lower. We all need to do what we can. As the old proverb says "To make things better, you should start with yourself". You address the propts given in the textbook, but in a rather vague way. Don't be afraid to use the expressions and phrases from the textbook The structure of your essay is very good, especially the conclusion. However, since you have not been as precise as the task required you to be and your language use has been rather simple (which is why it is largely correct), the mark is a good strong 4.

Why do people have pets?

As early as 3500 B.C., Egyptians were domesticating wildcats from Africa. They considered cats to be godesses pets. That ranked them above humans, making them the first to be saved if a house caught fire, before the people. As I see it, having a pet at home is a good thing to do. Nevertheless, often having a pet means having a lot of tasks because you have to take care of them very well. Thus, you will wake up in the early morning to take them out for a walk, or to calm them down when they are afraid of something. However, if you love them, there will be no problems. A lot of people keep a pet for these reasons, and they are surely doing well. Pets are humans' best friend, and thus will be forever.
