A book review

D.Salinger Catcher in The Rye is a novel written by J.D.Salinger. It and was first published in 1951. The story is about a teenage boy Holden Caulfield who dropped out of high-school because he failed every exam but English. Instead of going home and face his parents he decides to stay in hotel. For two days he wanders in New York and meets different people. Everything is described through Holden's perspective. Holden had quite complex character. He sometimes acts like a 13-year-old but in the same time he can be quite reasonable. Holden´s mood swings and trastic changes of feelings could even could mean that he had somekind of bipolar disorder. He could literally hate a person in one second and love in the next. He criticises others alot for being phony. Only persone he really seemed to be fond of was his little sister Phoebe. The book has a slightly depressing undertone because Holdens thougts about the situation he

The Republic of Kenya

If you’re the type who wants to explore a bit of the Nairobi nightlife and safari, it may be wise to start at bar first, since the clubs and discos in Kenya don’t get busy until around midnight and don’t close until the sun rises. Several clubs stage "cultural nites" which feature music, traditional foods and drinks from some of Kenya's main ethinic communities. An excellent opprtuinty to see Kenyans unplugged and hear the biggest local music acts. Shopping in Kenya is dominated by souvenir sellers. Handmade items may be purchased at market stalls, roadside stands, and from street peddlers. Be prepared for a strong sales pitch, offering bargain prices on handcrafts. Prices are initially determined based on what these sellers believe you will pay, but can generally be bargained down to a low price. I recommend it to people who like to explore something new and wild. There are

Public International Law is a system of law

States can be held to have a legal interest in their protection; they are obligations erga omnes." Concerns jus cogens norms. Just as the jus cogens crimes, the crimes that give rise to erga omnes obligations are seen as affecting the international community as a whole, and consequently all states in the world have an obligation to take action against the perpetrators of such crimes. Examples: outlawing of acts of aggression, outlawing of genocide, protection from slavery, protection from torture, protection from racial discrimination. Responsibility three types of responsibility: international, civil and criminal. PIL has its own specific system of international responsibility. You don't have international police if your rights are violated and the jurisdiction of courts is not as strong. Courts have jurisdiction only if all parties of the conflict agree to it.

The European Union Law , The EU institutions

Commission drafts and implements EU legislation. EU Treaties The European Union is based on the rule of law. This means that every action taken by the EU is founded on treaties that have been approved voluntarily and democratically by all EU member countries. The Treaty of Lisbon increased the number of policy areas where 'Ordinary Legislative Procedure' is used. The European Parliament also has more power to block a proposal if it disagrees with the Council. Regulations, Directives and other acts The aims set out in the EU treaties are achieved by several types of legal act. These legislative acts include regulations, directives, recommendations and opinions. Some are binding, others are not. Some apply to all EU countries, others to just a few. Application of EU law EU law - which has equal force with national law - confers rights and obligations on the authorities in each member country, as well as individuals and businesses. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed at many times and places before, including through the prophets Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Muslims maintain that previous messages and revelations have been partially changed or corrupted over time, but consider the Qur'an to be both unaltered and the final revelation from God. Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, encompassing everything from banking and welfare, to warfare and the environment. Most Muslims belong to one of two denominations; with 80-90% being Sunni and 10-20% being Shia. About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country, 25% in South Asia, 20% in the Middle East, 2% in Central Asia, 4% in the remaining South East Asian countries, and 15% in Sub-saharan Africa

in the home, divorce, unemployment, or a shortage ( ) of low-cost housing . Homeless people tend to be single, middle- aged, unemployed, and lacking in qualifications. Many have a history of violence in the home, and many suffer from psychological disorders, alcoholism, and drug abuse. Homelessness creates a sense of failure ( ) and results in isolation, loss of self- esteem ( ) , and loss of control over the most basic decisions and acts of everyday life such as when and what to eat, and where and when to wash. The number of homeless has been growing in recent years, especially among the young. Many young people come to big cities in search of more exciting life. Because cheap accommodation is scarce ( ) , they can found themselves on the streets, living the life of a tramps. This unhappy experience can make them reject society and its values. ability and prowess. Beats are traditionally generated from portions of other songs by a DJ, or sampled from portions of other songs by a producer, though synthesizers, drum machines, and live bands are also used, especially in newer music. Rappers may perform poetry which they have written ahead of time, or improvise rhymes on the spot with or without a beat. Though rap is usually an integral component of hip hop music, DJs sometimes perform and record alone, and many instrumental acts are also defined as hip hop. Hip hop arose in New York City when DJs began isolating the percussion break from funk, or rock songs for audiences to dance to. The role of the MC was originally to introduce the DJ and the music, and to keep the audience excited. The MC would speak between songs, giving exhortations to dance, greetings to audience members, jokes and anecdotes. Eventually, this practice became more stylized, and came to be known as rapping. By 1979, hip hop had become a

a sizeable portion of the canopy. This hole in the canopy is known as a "light gap" because direct sunlight reaches the floor in contrast to the usual 1-5 percent under full canopy conditions. The opening of a light gap brings many changes to the section of rainforest. Drip tips Equatorial rainfall is so heavy that trees can easily get damaged during storms. Their solution is to shed the rain as quickly as possible. Each leaf has a spout called a drip tip which acts like a gargoyle on a church, channelling the water away in a quick but controlled manner so the tree crown isn't weighed down. Drip tips may protect the tree in another way. Releasing the rain at drop size reduces the risk of the thin soil below being washed away so easily. An unstable soil structure could spell disaster for the larger trees. Epiphytes An epiphyte is a plant that grows upon another plant (such as a tree) non-parasitically or

Canada topic

Government Canada is a federation of ten provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan) and three territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut). Formally considered a constitutional monarchy, Canada is governed by its own House of Commons. While the governor-general is officially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister. Canada is an independent, self-governing nation. However, Canadians recognize Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain as Queen of Canada. The position symbolizes the country's strong ties to Great Britain, which ruled Canada completely until 1867. Canada and the United States have had a relationship of cooperation and friendship since the 1800's. In Canada a federal form of government is combined with a cabinet system.

hard. Conflicts developed between the Native Americans and the Invaders, the latter arriving in overwhelming numbers, as many "as the stars in heaven". The Europeans were accustomed to own land and laid claim to it while they considered the Indians to be nomads with no interest to claim land ownership. The conflicts led to the Indian Wars, the Indian Removal Act empowered by President Andrew Jackson in 1830 and other acts instituted by the Europeans in order to accomplish their objectives, as they viewed them at the time. In these wars the Indian tribes were at a great disadvantage because of their modest numbers, nomadic life, lack of advanced weapons, and unwillingness to cooperate, even in their own defense. The end of the wars more or less coincided with the end of the 19th century. The last major war was not really a war, it was a massacre in 1890 where Indian warriors, women,

Most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island of Great Britain, as are their respective capital cities: London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff. The Kingdom of Great Britain resulted from the political union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland with the Acts of Union 1707 on 1 May 1707 under Queen Anne. In 1801, under a new Act of Union, this kingdom merged with the Kingdom of Ireland to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. After the Irish War of Independence most of Ireland seceded from the Union, which then became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. George Orwell "Animal Farm" essay - "Human nature exposed in the novel"

for someone else's ideas, views and power, a certain protective reflex pushes them to defend and fight for their position. Humans are too selfish, self-centered and egoistic to share their desired position with someone else. Besides the thirst for individual power, the methods people use to gain it are even more absurd. The best example would be lying. In "Animal Farm" Napoleon gradually started inventing more and more lies, which would justify and explain his decisions and acts. The pigs started altering the Seven Commandements for their own well-being. They changed them to make their life more enjoyable and comfortable. It's also in humans' nature to tell lies just to inluence other's opinions, to make them look good in someone's eyes or just because telling others something they want to hear or believe grows a certain kind of respect and belief in people. Another technique Napoleon used to increase his power over other animals was telling bizarre and

The area now called England has been settled by people of various cultures for about 35,000 years, but it takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in AD 927, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The Kingdom of Englan which after 1284 included Wales was a sovereign state until 1.May 1707, when the Acts of Union put into effect the terms agreed in the Treaty of Union the previous year, resulting in a political union with the Kingtdom of Great Britain to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain 1800. Bella notices that Alice looks frustrated and Edward explains that she is uncomfortable being "blinded" by the wolves' involvement. The pack finally enters the clearing, arriving in wolf form. There are more wolves now than Bella last knew about, and the vampires are both fascinated and careful. Carlisle welcomes them and Edward acts as translator, using his mind reading abilities to speak for the pack. The wolves agree to watch and listen, but are not comfortable doing more. Jasper takes center stage to begin the instruction. Jasper calls Emmett forward first, noting that his reliance on brutal strength is what makes Emmett the closest example of a newborn attack. Jasper easily catches Emmett from behind and ends the mock skirmish. He engages Alice next, wishing specifically for Bella to see why

Food Microstructure and Starch Digestion

Slide 7 This study found out how important is starch in our everyday life. Starch is one of the most important carbohydrates in our diet and therefore we studies how we can imprõve or decrease the digestion of starch by thermal treatment or adding different chemicals. Starch is easier to digest, when food is cooked and added components like sodium sulphite, but digestion increases when food is eaten raw and has much protein in it. But for specific overview of how starch acts with different components, I highly recommend to read the study yourself. Slide 8 Here is my terminology, I will not stop here for longer. Slide 9 And here are my references. My article is from book series „Advances in Food and Nutrition Research“ volume 70. All the illustrative pictures are taken from the Internet and terminology translated from Environmental Dictionary. Thank you for your attention! Now I gladly accept your questions you may have.

On page 65 Mabbe translates "en las bestias, en la saves, en las reptilias" as "birds, beasts and all creatures that creep and crawl upon the earth." A small example of how he extends the words. Mabbe made the translation at the age of twenty-six while a student at the University of Oxford. He used the edition from 1502 of the tragicomedia with all 21 acts, as well as the Italian translation published in 1506 by Ordóñez. In this 1987 edition, the letter "El autor a un su amigo" and the poems at the beginning and end have been translated and added by Severin. Severin writes that "Mabbe's Jacobean style appears somewhat overwrought by comparison to the austerity of the original model, and is in fact quite a bit longer because of Mabbe's tendency to overexplain and to find synonymous words with which to amplify the text" (Severin p XV)

Why do we need morality?

the moral code, they will feel guilty and know that it was wrong. The main difference between religion and morality is that morality is more reasonal while religion relies on beliefs. Morality is a big part of religion. Belief guides people towards morality, as religious people think that God sees and judges all our actions. Law is related to morality as well as religion. In the perfect word morality should be the basis of law. But in real world there are unjust laws and immoral acts that cannot be legally enforced. The law cannot judge human motives and intentions as well and that is why the law is much more shallower. One can be morally evil, intending to do evil things, but as long as he won't do them, he is legally innocent. The relationship between morality and etiquette is that etiquette varies greatly in different cultures and is usually morally neutral. For example one culture eats with chop-sticks, other with forks and knives, but it does not

The Moon Is Down

The conflict starts at the beginning of the occupation as an illusion of a friendly takeover both the invaders and the locals try to maintain, is shattered by the deaths of several people killed because of futile resistance attempts. At first, things go well. The locals are stunned and confused, and the invaders busily plan and carry out expansion of coal production. Soon enough, a slow, burning anger replaces the people's fear and a ragged resistance movement forms. Random acts of sabotage occur against soldiers and the coal mine. The invaders, under orders from above, impose repressive measures to keep the production going. Their commander follows his order knowing that, in fact, there is little hope of stopping the sabotage for more than a few days at a time. The conquerors say of themselves and their futile efforts to defeat the undefeated motivation of the townspeople, "The flies have conquered the flypaper!" Soon, all semblance of harmony is ended

the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." The U.S. Department of State defines "terrorism" to be "premeditated politically-motivated violence perpetrated against non-combatant targets by sub- national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience." Terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond the direct victim. The strategy of terrorists is to commit acts of violence that draws the attention of the local population, the government, and the world to their cause. The terrorists plan their attack to achieve the greatest publicity, choosing targets that symbolize what they oppose. The effectivity of the terrorist act lies not in the act itself, but in the public's or government's reaction to the act. For example, in 1972 at the Munich Olympics, the Black September Organization killed 11 Israelis. The Israelis were the immediate victims

unambiguous and invariant information about the layout and objects in space. He differs in this information in three forms: optic flow patterns (motion and stereopsis), texture gradient and affordances. Optic flow patterns generally refer to the changes in optic array as the perceiver moves about. Texture gradients (or gradients of texture density) are important depth cues perceived directly without the need for any inferences, as this high-order pattern or structure acts as a source of information about our environment. Affordances are directly perceivable potential uses or objects, and are closely linked with ecological optics. When an object moves further away from the eye, its image gets smaller (relative size); most objects are bounded by texture surfaces and texture gradient gets finer as an object recedes. Bruce & Green (1990) argue that Gibson's concept of affordances is most powerful and useful in the context of visually guided behaviour, as

British Parliament

The last major function of the sovereign - in the parliamentary context - is his or her weekly meeting with the Prime Minister. By tradition, the latter informs the Sovereign, who is head of state, about important affairs of state and government business, and asks the sovereign for his or her opinion. With over 60 years of experience, the current Queen Elizabeth II has acquired great experience in managing affairs of state, and an unparalleled experience of international relations, and now acts as an experienced adviser, well liked by her Prime Ministers, of all political persuasions . The House of Lords This is the "Upper House" of the British Parliament . It consists of about 750 members (a variable number ) most of whom are Life Peers (i.e. not hereditary lords), or people who have been ennobled for services rendered to the nation. These Life Peers are mostly former members of the House of Commons, or former senior officials, judges, or former business

with an elected Parliament. Although The Sovereign no longer has a political or executive role, he or she continues to play an important part in the life of the nation. As Head of State, The Monarch undertakes constitutional and representational duties which have developed over one thousand years of history. In addition to these State duties, The Monarch has a less formal role as 'Head of Nation'. The Sovereign acts as a focus for national identity, unity and pride; gives a sense of stability and continuity; officially recognises success and excellence; and supports the ideal of voluntary service. In all these roles The Sovereign is supported by members of their immediate family. It can be hard to tell what the royal family's official duties are. Scotland

dominates the Scottish Lowlands. Scottish waters consist of a large sector of the North Atlantic and the North Sea, containing the largest oil reserves in the European Union. The Kingdom of Scotland was an independent state until 1 May 1707 when it joined in a political union with the Kingdom of England to create a united Kingdom of Great Britain. This union was the result of the Treaty of Union agreed in 1706 and put into effect by the Acts of Union that were passed by the Parliaments of both countries despite widespread protest across Scotland. Scotland's legal system continues to be separate from those of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland and Scotland still constitutes a distinct jurisdiction in public and in private law. The continued independence of Scots law, the Scottish education system, and the Church of Scotland have all contributed to the continuation of Scottish culture and Scottish national identity since the

Report: Canada

Government: Canada is a federation of ten provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan) and three territories (Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut). Formally considered a constitutional monarchy, Canada is governed by its own House of Commons. While the governor-general is officially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, in reality the governor-general acts only on the advice of the Canadian prime minister. History: The first inhabitants of Canada were native Indian peoples, primarily the Inuit (Eskimo). The Norse explorer Leif Eriksson probably reached the shores of Canada (Labrador or Nova Scotia) in 1000, but the history of the white man in the country actually began in 1497, when John Cabot, an Italian in the service of Henry VII of England, reached Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Canada was taken for France in 1534 by Jacques Cartier

The Queens of England

reported to have said. Mary is characterized as "Bloody Mary" because of the large number of religious persecutions that took place during her reign; almost 300 people were condemned to death as a result of trials for heresy. These actions, however, must be put into perspective, as by European standards this was a limited persecution. It is possible too that Protestant writers such as John Foxe, particularly in his Acts and Monuments of These Latter and Perilous Dayes ..., popularly known as The Book of Martyrs, exaggerated the ferocity of the Catholic reaction. Some of Henry VIII's and Edward VI's most important Protestant bishops were burnt, including Thomas Cranmer, John Hooper, Hugh Latimer, and Nicholas Ridley. Mary has been blamed for these persecutions along with her advisers: Reginald Pole, Bishop Stephen Gardiner (who had presided over the wedding of Mary and Philip), and Bishop Edmund Bonner.
