What makes a good movie

It is not very simple to answer this question. Some of us like movies that are futuristic and mystical, but the others love movies that involve love, romance or even violent movies where they can see crime and investigation. I think a good movie has to be true-to-life and stunning. I especially love movies that surprise me. A superb movie has to be educative it has to let me know about something new. The best movies have professional actors. Without great actors and actresses, the movies are not so stunning. They need to make the movies seem real and original. People don't think the same way. We have different opinions, so not everyone like the movies that I enjoy watching. Nevertheless a movie has to be fascinating and gripping to make me enjoy it.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are a serious health problem. Three of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating or compulsive eating disorder. There are other possible causes to this widely known health problem. The media shows a great deal of beauty and thinness on television and magazines that are viewed by many people daily. Everyone has the desire to look like the actors and actresses do but, in reality, it just will not happen for most of us. An unfavorable relationship a person has with others is also a contributing factor to disordered eating habits. There really is no single reason that a person acquires an eating disorder. Causes like the ones mentioned above play such an important role in eating disorders. Is it really so important that in order to look like the super models people are willing to give up food and starve themselves to death for a little

Eating habits and health

But is this good for your health? There are some advatntages and disadvantages of eating fast food, but this isn't the only way of eating unhealthily. It seems like every little girl dreams of becoming a model. They want to be thin and pretty like the models they see on television like my little sister. The media shows a great deal of beauty and thinness on television and magazines that are viewed by many people daily. Everyone has the desire to look like the actors and actresses do but, in reality, it just will not happen for most of us. Often the desire becomes an obsession and young girls see "thinness" as being a needed characteristic. For many girls, the teenage years are spent trying to acquire this look. 40% of 9- and 10-year-old girls are already trying to lose weight and I find this fact really terrifying. Eating disorders are a serious health problem. Three of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia

The history of movies

Most americans went to see the movies at least once a week. The movie industry became a big business. People might not know the names of government officials but they knew the name s of every leading actor and actress. It also changed people's thinking. Young americans tried to copy what they saw in the movies. They dreamed about faraway places and a different kind of life. THE STORY (do houses look like in Desperate Housewives and do women look like in Baywatch). In addition the actors and actresses at this time were told to practice public behavior. Where to eat. How to dress, what they could be seen doing. Made people more equal. Rich and poor families saw the same movies. The children all shared the same wish to be like movie stars. Culture and westernization. The culture in big towns moved over to rural areas. The nation exported it-s culture through movies . Movies were actually key to the westernization of the world as 90% of all movies then were made in hollywood/us.

Smoking is on the increase among young people

magazine advartisements. It would be a good idea because teens read magazines very often and they see the pictures in them. Many famous or rich people are seen smoking in advartisements, there are flashy pictures of them with cigarettes in their hands or hanging out of their mouths. If we don't have images that advertise cigarettes, smoking would be less glamorous. We could also forbid advertising cigarettes on televison and in movies because teens look up to actors and actresses, they think that it is cool to smoke too. To sum up, there are a number of possible solutions to reduce smoking. However, I belive the best solution would be to take down any pictures with cigarettes and advertisements that promote smoking because unfortunately the media does not show images of the health issues that smoking causes. Also I am convinced that we should ban television and movies that have any type of smoking or cigarettes in them

Finished topic- mass media

The words of the actors appeared on cards, which were shown every twenty seconds or so. Suitable music was played during the film by an orchestra, or by one person on a piano. The golden age of the cinema began with the talkies in 1927 when the actors on film were able to talk for the first time. By 1930, all films were 'talkies', and many actors and directors moved from the theatre into the cinema. A lot of people are needed to make a film, as well as actors and actresses. For example a Producer is the person who chooses which film to make, a Director is the person who decides how to 'shoot' (or film) each scene, a Screenwriter is the person who writes the screenplay or script of a film and an Editor - the person who 'cuts' and then puts together the film. In the 1950s, people stopped going to the cinema two or three times a week, and stayed at home to watch TV instead. TV in the 1950s was black-and-white, and the pictures were shown on very small screens

during World War II, Norma Jeane Dougherty moved in with her mother-in-law where she started working in the Radioplane Munitions Factory owned by Hollywood actor Reginald Denny. She sprayed airplane parts with fire retardant and inspected parachutes. During this time Army photographer David Conover snapped a photograph of her for a YANK magazine article. He encouraged her to apply to the The Blue Book modeling agency. She signed with the agency, and she began researching the work of famous actresses Jean Harlow and Lana Turner, and enrolled in drama and singing classes. Monroe had her hair cut, straightened, and lightened to golden blonde.[15] She became one of Blue Book's most successful models, appearing on dozens of magazine covers. In 1946, she came to the attention of talent scout Ben Lyon. He arranged a screen test for her with 20th Century Fox. She was offered a standard six-month contract with a starting salary of $125 per week. [16]
