Sissejuhatus Meriliiliad ehk krinoidid kuuluvad okasnahksete (Echinodermata) hõimkonda, varsokasnahksete (Crinozoa) alamhõimkonda. Neid arvatakse esinevat Kesk-Kambriumis, kindlaid esindajaid on teada Ordoviitsiumist. Meriliiliad on taime meenutava kujuga loomad- sellest ka nimetus meriliiliad [1, 2]. Töös uuritavad lubjakivil olevad meriliiliate fosiilid on pärit Kalana karjäärist. Eksemplaride oletatavaks vanuseks on 435-440 miljonit aastat. Arvatavasti on tegemist üheainsa liigiga seni kirjeldamata perekonnast, mille nimetame siinkohal Kalanacrinus’eks. Siiani ei ole Tartu Ülikooli Geoloogia osakonnas detailselt mõõdetud Kalanast leitud meriliiliate kivistisi, küll aga on leiud märgistatud ja sorteeritud Viirika Mastiku poolt.
