LIMITATIONS OF BLOGS While this paper argues the advantages of blogs in the area of reflection, it is necessary also to examine the limitations of blogs. First limitation examined in this paper concerns students' own perceptions of blogs. The problem is that many students do not see the educational or reflective benefits of reading others blogs. Rather they perceive a blog as an account of events (Hanlon, 2009, pp. 6-7). Therefore it is questionable how many students would use a blog for reflection if not instructed to do so. According to Hanlon (2009) although reflection had a positive effect on students learning performance it seemed to be higher ability students that embraced reflection.
