Sustainability aspects of biofuels

In Brazil, however, sugarcane utilisation for biofuels does not pose competition for sugar production, as sugarcane occupies about 10% of the current planted area, and only 50% of it is used for ethanol feedstock. Sugarcane cultivation takes up only 2.5% of the total agricultural land available and it has been predicted that there is plenty of potential for agricultural expansion (Padula et al, 2007). It is well accepted that, in Brazil, the current large-scale sugarcane production does not compromise food production, and even an expansion would be possible without constraints. Sugarcane is mostly cultivated in the southeast region of Brazil and sugarcane production has limited impact on deforestation, because the soil and weather conditions in the Amazon are not suitable for sugarcane. Nevertheless, large areas dedicated for sugarcane production limit the land availability that can be used for other crops

Although Regan’s monograph has generated debates, his emphasis on “the fundamental assumption that writing and reading take place in history” and that the “horizon of possible meanings is determined by the conjuncture of two historical moments, the moment of writing and the moment of reading”, can surely be accepted. Another monograph applying the method of historicism, published fourteen years after Regan’s is Stephen Cooper’s Philip Larkin: Subversive Writer (2004). 1.2. MARS ONE, a private non-profit space company, made headlines in June 2012 when the company announced its mission to establish a human settlement on Mars. All the people in the world had the opportunity to be involved in the Mars One mission from the very beginning by participating in selecting the colonists. Mars One plans to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars in the 2020s. And searching for life on Mars will be part of the research these colonists will conduct. The company accepted applications to become a Mars One colonist until August 31, 2013. The number of the people who wanted to get the one-way ticket to the Mars was well over 200,000. The astronaut crews that go to Mars will be diverse in gender, cultural background, and age. This is intentional. The diversity will help each team bring greater resources to solving problems. Before carefully selected and trained crews will depart to Mars,

ASPECTS OF BRITISH HISTORY

In time his title became shortened to sheriff. These shires, established by the end of the tenth century, have remained almost exactly the same for a thousand years. ‘Shire’ is the Saxon word which is now obsolete; it has been replaced with the Norman word county but still exists in the names of over 20 modern counties in England: Derbyshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, etc. Back to Europe Christianity reached Britain and Ireland well before it was accepted by the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great in 313. In the fourth century Christianity became firmly established across Britain, both in Roman-controlled areas and beyond. However, the Anglo-Saxons were pagan when they came to Britain. In the seventh century England became Christian very quickly 4. Many bishops and monks in England were from Europe. They were invited by English rulers who wished to benefit from closer church and economic contact with Europe. Anglo-Saxon England

much money and time, which otherwise could be used in artistic endeavors, or to buy more computers and books or special tutors. I especially loathe collegiate athletics, which become farm teams for professional clubs. These have no valid role at institutions of higher learning. The whole issue of scholastic competition needs careful review. Presently, space is so limited at many universities, and demand so high, that only students with the highest grades are accepted. Let us expand our ability to enroll students, and aim to admit all qualified applicants. This exclusion of non-A students bothers me more than high tuition rates do. Students in college can work summer jobs, such as fishing off Alaska, to earn their tuition; it is not necessary for parents or taxpayers to pay their way. Scholarships, based on deserving factors, are okay if endowed by private giving. I like to

patronizingly tilted in their favour. Psychoanalysis has little scientific standing, and Lacanian theory is further disputed within the psychoanalytical community itself. Feminism does itself few favours by relying on these supports. A more damaging criticism is the concept of the feminine itself. Does it really exist? There are very real differences in the psychological make-up between the sexes, but testing also indicates what anthropologists have long accepted: the expression of those differences is more determined by cultural factors than sexuality per se. Feminists who argue for a more understanding, fluid, and delicate attitude are not so much advocating qualities native to women but for attitudes still repressed by society. That in turn suggests society itself needs exploring rather than sex differences per se, which is indeed a view more recognized in contemporary feminist studies.

speech, but the reader is almost entirely unaware either of print or of speech. Arnold Toynbee is innocent of any understanding of media as they have shaped history, but he is full of examples that the student of media can use. At one moment he can seriously suggest that adult education, such as the Workers Educational Association in Britain, is a useful counterforce to the popular press. Toynbee considers that although all of the oriental societies have in our time accepted the industrial technology and its political consequences: "On the cultural plane, however, there is no uniform corresponding tendency." (Somervell, I. 267) This is like the voice of the literate man, floundering in a milieu of ads, who boasts, "Personally, I pay no attention to ads." The spiritual and cultural reservations that the oriental peoples may have toward our technology will avail them not at all. The effects of technology

Väikesse Eestimaa mõisa sõitis perepoeg (ohvitser) koos oma sõbra Timotheus von Bock`iga (samuti ohvitser). Eelpoolmainitud Timotheus von Bock kohtus seal mõisateenijana töötava Eesti soost talutydruku Eevaga, kes talle meeldima hakkas. T.v.Bock läks Eeva isa juurde kosja. Sellel läks alguses sitt keema, sest ta arvas, et sakslane tahab ta tytre litsiks teha ja tuli seda talle veel nina alla hõõruma, ent T. v. Bock selgitas asja ära. T. v. Bock saatis Eeva viieks aastaks õppima pastor Masingu juurde (jah, selle Masingu juurde). Eevaga läks kaasa ka ta vend Jakob, kes yhtaegu rõõmustas, et ta säärase soodsa võimaluse sai, aga samas tundis end oma rahva reetjana (nojah, juhtub). large pieces of land from foreign countries to themselves, creating a big country. By 1860 America was a big country but there was a big difference between the free North and the slavery South. The biggest problem was the issue of slaves and due to that the Civil War broke out in 1861. President Abraham Lincoln tried hard to unite the country again. Though both sides were strong, the North had more men, more factories and stronger leaders. In 1865 the South accepted the loss. Lincoln was shot in 1865 and the next president wasn't strong enough to unite the country, so problems weren't solved. During the 19 th century many people went to live in the west. To people of today the West comes to us through fun cowboys who in reality were hard-working men. They disappeared when the government gave them land and from 1862 to 1900 they became farmers. The farms that in the beginning were lonely were brought together by the railway built in 1869

them for bad occurrences. Saint Boniface declared in the 8th century that belief in the existence of witches was un-Christian. The emperor Charlemagne decreed that the burning of supposed witches was a pagan custom that would be punished by the death penalty. In 820 the Bishop of Lyon and 2 others repudiated the belief that witches could make bad weather, fly in the night, and change their shape. This denial was accepted into Canon law until it was reversed in later centuries as the witch- hunt gained force. In 1307 the trial of the Knights Templar shows close parallels to accusations of witchcraft, maleficium, and sorcery and may have been the beginning of the great European witch- hunt. Other rulers such as King Coloman of Hungary declared that witch-hunts should cease because witches do not exist. The Crimes of the Witches

20th-Century Archaisms "Among the technological archaisms I've had to explain to the Tuned In children--what a 'record' is, why they call it 'dialing' a phone, the fact that, once, you couldn't rewind TV shows--is the fact that, a long time ago, musicians used to make little movies of their songs, and people would watch them on TV." 17. Neologisms A neologism is a newly coined word or term which has emerged into everyday usage. Some neologisms are formally accepted into mainstream language (at which point, they cease to be neologisms), and some wither until they can longer be considered everyday terms. A neologism can be:  A completely new word (e.g., oversharers)  A new combination of existing words (e.g., digital detox)  A new meaning for an existing word (e.g., sick) Examples of Neologisms The following are examples of neologisms at the time of writing (2014):

2) Culture influences behavior. 3) Humans have a social self (a collective identity), which develops within social contexts. 4) People's views of the world are resistant to change. Explain how principles that define the sociocultural level of analysis may be demonstrated in research. 1) Conformity is the tendency to adjust one's feelings, thoughts, or behavior in ways that are in agreement with those of a particular individual or group, or with accepted standards of how a person should behave in specific situations. People tend to conform because we are social animals and have a need to belong. Some conformity studies are the study with line by Asch, which was improved and replicated by Crutchifield. 2) Hofstede has conducted a classic study on cultural dimensions, showing that culture influences behavior. Matumoto has tried to define culture. 3) The collective identity develops inside groups and social contexts

English as a Global Language

Indeed, such factors cannot even guarantee survival as a living language –as is clear from the case of Latin, learned today as a classical language by only a scholarly and religious few. Correspondingly, inconvenient structural properties (such as awkward spelling in English) do not stop a language achieving international status either. [1, p. 9] There could be many various reasons for the language to become lingua franca but most often, a language is accepted from outside the community, such as English or French, because of the political, economic, or religious influence of a foreign power. For instance, Greek was a language of international communication in the Middle East over 2.000 years ago, not because of the intellects of Plato and Aristotle, but the swords and spears of Alexander the Great’s army. [1, p. 9] But international language dominance is not solely the result of military might. It may

I shall be back by dinner." "I admire the activity of your benevolence," observed Mary, "but every impulse of feeling should be guided by reason; and, in my opinion, exertion should always be in proportion to what is required." "We will go as far as Meryton with you," said Catherine and Lydia. Elizabeth accepted their company, and the three young ladies set off together. "If we make haste," said Lydia, as they walked along, "perhaps we may see something of Captain Carter before he goes." In Meryton they parted; the two youngest repaired to the lodgings of one of the officers' wives, and Elizabeth continued her walk alone, crossing field after field at a quick pace, jumping over stiles and springing over puddles with impatient activity, and finding herself

We see the beginning of the dissipation of arranged "French" marriages and the introduction of English marriages, where young people decide on their own who to marry: "The French fashion-of the parents arranging their children's future-was not accepted; it was condemned. The English fashion of the complete independence of girls was also not accepted, and not possible in Russian society. The Russian fashion of matchmaking by the officer of intermediate persons was for some reason considered disgraceful; it was ridiculed by everyone, and by the princess herself. But how girls were to be married, and how parents were to marry them, no one knew." After fighting off opposition in the first civil war (the "First Fitna"), Ali was assassinated by Kharijites in 661. Following this, Mu'awiyah, who was governor of Levant, seized power and began the Umayyad dynasty. These disputes over religious and political leadership would give rise to schism in the Muslim community. The majority accepted the legitimacy of the three rulers prior to Ali, and became known as Sunnis. A minority disagreed, and believed that Ali was the only rightful successor; they became known as the Shi'a. After Mu'awiyah's death in 680, conflict over succession broke out again in a civil war known as the "Second Fitna". The post-revolutionary situation and World War I (19071917) The defeat of the revolution was followed by general reactionary onslaught; the previous promises and freedoms were cancelled. On 3 June 1907, the oppositional II Duma was dissolved and a new election law came into force that was favourable for the government. The Russian political situation had nevertheless undergone an essential change: the Tsar accepted the assembling of the first parliament in 1906. In the empire's parliament -- the Russian Duma (which was regularly assembled from 1906 to 1917) -- Estonia was represented by 20 deputies. Of these, 13 were Estonians who formed a bloc with the Russian Constitutional Democrats' Party (cadets). Although the Duma was unable to solve the acute Baltic problems, it was nevertheless a means of making the Russian public and the world aware of them.

Ten years after the death of Rudolf Tobias. Dr. Hermann Kretzschmar, the Rector of Königliche Hochschule für Musik, after becoming acquainted with the oratorio said that from the time of J.S. Bach to the present (1912) there was no other powerful composition in the given genre. Thanks to his oratorio Tobias was accepted as a temporary lecturer on music theory at the Hochschule in 1912. For decades this great and large, deeply individual and dynamic work, full of creative imagination (not limited by the short Book of Jonah in its essence) remained unknown. The first full performance of the oratorio took place in Tallinn on May 25th, 1989, the soloists, choirs and orchestra conducted by Peeter Lilje (1950-1993). BRITISH NATIONAL SYMBOLS

Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom in 1922, the state was renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 1.2 National Symbols and Nation Building The nation is visible through its symbols (flags, anthems, emblems), ceremonies (national days, sporting events), monuments (memorials, buildings, national museums), the land itself (landscape), its borders (insiders and outsiders) and the capital city. This assumption is illustrated by the fact that all nations, in order to be accepted internationally, must have a certain number of characteristics. The nation is usually known by six essential elements: a name, a capital city, clearly defined borders, a national flag, a national anthem and a national day. (Scott, 2000) Every nation needs a main sign to represent it. The national flag is for this reason not only a piece of cloth fluttering in the wind, it is a sign of self-expression, and a claim of sovereignty or the wish to attain sovereignty

What is integrated care?

Clarity of goals is essential, not only as a means of generating shared objectives, but also in providing ongoing momentum to integration (Rosen and others, 2011). Integration projects driven by a focus on reducing service fragmentation for a group of patients are often more successful than top-down attempts to integrate care (Ramsey and Fulop, 2008), reinforcing the patient's perspective as being at the heart of integrated care. It is now widely accepted that `one size of integrated care does not fit all'. It is therefore vital to consider the context (that is different care settings and perspectives) in which a specific integrated care initiative develops. This might involve exploring current policy initiatives and/or considering structures and processes at higher provider and financing levels (Ovretveit and others, 2010). It might also involve considering the views of local

PETROLEUM

Tallinn 2013 Ott Speek Subject: English Geodesy Study group: GI-21b PETROLEUM PRESENTATION Petroleum (L. petroleum, from Greek: Πέτρα (rock) + Latin: oleum (oil) is a naturally occurring flammable liquid consisting of a complex mixture of hydrocarbons of various molecular weights and other liquid organic compounds, that are found in geologic formations beneath the Earth's surface. The name Petroleum covers both naturally occurring unprocessed crude oils and petroleum products that are made up of refined crude oil. A fossil fuel, it is formed when large quantities of dead organisms, usually zooplankton and algae, are buried underneath sedimentary rock and undergo intense heat and pressure. Petroleum is recovered mostly through oil drilling. This comes after the studies of structural geology (at the reservoir scale), sedimentary basin analysis, reservoir characterization (mainly in terms of porosity and perme...

But eventually he surrendered to Edward I. Nevertheless, after several years he secured Scottish independence from England militarily at the Battle of Bannockburn. Freed from English threats, Scotland's armies could now invade northern England. *The Hammer of the Scotts Edward I was a King of England who almost succeeded in conquering Scotland and gained that name because of it. Edward insisted that he must be recognized as overlord of Scotland. Eventually, this was accepted, with the condition that Edward's overlordship would only be temporary. Edward named John Balliol the Scottish king. When he demanded Scottish military service against France, the Scots concluded a treaty with France and readied themselves for war with England. Edward's massive army killed many innosent citizens. Edward executed the focus of discontent, William Wallace, having earlier defeated him at the Battle of Falkirk. Although he won the battle, Edward lost

Keisri hull

Teos on kirjutatud päevikuvormis, märkmeid teeb toimunu kohta väljamõeldud tegelane, Eeva vend Jakob. Romaani aluseks oli Jakob Mätliku päevaraamat. J. Mätlik ise oli Tim...

raamatupidamise valdkondadest. Teiseks vabanes sel ajal kommunistliku korra alt suur hulk riike, kes vajasid endale plaanimajandusliku raamatupidamise asemele kiiresti uut ja kaasaegset raamatupidamist. Kõige lihtsam tee oli üle võtta IAS. Kolmandaks jõudsid ka arenenud riigid seisukohale, et vähemalt nende börsid võiksid aktspteerida mingis ühises keeles kirjutatud aruandeid. Kuna valida oli kahe suure süsteemi vahel IAS või USA GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles USA Raamatupidamise reeglid), siis juba poliitilistel põhjustel eelistas enamik Euroopa riike IASi. Käesolevaks ajaks on vastu võetud 41 standardit, millest osa enam ei kehti. Mitmeid standardeid on jõutud korduvalt muuta. IASC tööd juhib nõukogu, kuhu kuuluvad 13 liikmesriigi (kaasa arvatud 10 asutajamaad) esindajad. 2000 a. algul oli IASCs esindatud 143 raamatupidamisorganisatsiooni 104 riigist. 6

Introduction of SCM

INTRODUCTION OF SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (SCM) A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution options that performs the functions of procurement of materials, transformation of these materials into intermediate and finished products, and the distribution of these finished products to customers. Supply chains exist in both service and manufacturing organizations, although the complexity of the chain may vary greatly from industry to industry and firm to firm. Supply chain management is typically viewed to lie between fully vertically integrated firms, where the entire material flow is owned by a single firm and those where each channel member operates independently. Therefore coordination between the various players in the chain is key in its effective management. Cooper and Ellram [1993] compare supply chain management to a well-balanced and well-practiced relay team. Such a team...

The court found it to be contrary to Art. 30 of the Treaty on the Establishment of the EEC (now Article 34 of the DFES) the provisions of the Belgian law, according to which the exporter must present to the customs authorities of Belgium a certificate of origin of the goods of the producing country A formulation above from the decision of the EU Court in the literature is called the "Dassonville formula". It was universally accepted and widely used in the further practice of the Court, which further clarified and clarified the concepts of this formula and their content.
