Letter of enquiry

4 November 2011 Dear Sir or Madam I am writing in reply to your advertisement in a magazine. I would be interested in publishing my work. I would be grateful if you could answer some questions, as the advertisement was rather brief. First of all, I would like to know if you have set an age limit or a deadline. I also wonder whether the poetry is acceptable and where the work will be published. Finally, could you inform me if I may send in my manuscript by e-mail. I look forward to receiving your reply. Yours faithfully, Tiiu Tamm

Environment and renewable energy

* Renewable energy is the sun and the water that people use, but not yet so widely. Required on all homes, various stations, hypermarkets solar panels to use the potential energy, the stock of which is not completed within 5 billion years. * Renewable sources such as wind and solar are intrinsically unsuited to meeting the demand for continuous, reliable supply on a large scale – which comprises most demand in developed countries. The criteria for any acceptable energy supply will continue to be cost, safety, and security of supply, as well as environmental considerations. 2. How can we encourage sustainable development? * To encourage you in the following way. To allocate money for the construction of such stations to States that are unable to pay for expensive power plants. Permanent sponsorship of these stations and verification.

Should mercy killing be punished?

Should mercy-killing be punished? It is argued whether mercy-killing should be punished or not. Every human being deserves the right to life, but is it still so when it is not possible to live a normal life? To start with, it is not life when it is not possible to move or even talk. If a person is in coma and court and his family has given the permission, then mercy-killing should be acceptable. On the other hand, we all make mistakes including doctors. When the doctor says that she or he will never wake up it can never be 100% true. In other words, the doctor should pay his price for taking human life. To sum up, in author’s opinion mercy-killing should not be punished. If it is certified by court, his doctor and family then it is legal and maybe it will be a favor for all of them.

Learning English by computer

at home. There are positive and negative sides of learning english by computer. In my opinion are there more positive sides. I think that it would be more easier when you can study whatever time you want. When you are studying by computer then you abstain from conflicts with teacher. If you have your own computer then you can study at home and at the same time lie around, eat, listen to music, etc. I think that it would be cheaper and acceptable too. When you are studying english by computer then you don't have to think about your pronunciation. In my opinion is there only few bad sides. For example when you are studying at home then there's no discipline and you don't knuckle down. In my opinion is learning english by computer better way to improve your skills. I think that some day is learning english by computer usual way.

Assessment Report

Assessment Report To: Mr Emerson From: Egert Kaegas Subject: Hillside Camping Bagsbottom-by-Sea Introduction As requested, the purpose of this report is to describe and assess the suitability of this camp site for inclusion in our brochure. Location The site consists of a 500 m2 field overlooking the village of Bagsbottom-by-Sea. It is easily accessible to customers arriving by road or rail. Although the site offers an outstanding view, it is not protected from the wind. It can, in fact, become quite chilly in the evenings. Features Hillside has large shower block consisting of 10 showers and toilets for men and the same for woman. However, the cleanliness of the shower and toilet blocks is not of an acceptable standard. There is a bus service to the village, yet it is inconvenient as since it runs only every 30 or 60 minutes. Hillside also has launderette, a restaurant and a bar, althou...

Capital Punishment Should be Abolished

have been instances where innocent people were sentenced to death and later found to be innocent. Why is it wrong? Capital punishment is a barbarous survival from a less enlightened and refined age; it is incongruous and incompatible with our present standard of civilization and humanity. It has been abolished by many states and countries, and we must look forward to the day when all the governments will follow this. It's a murder. The first question that comes to mind is, is it ethically acceptable to kill someone? When you execute a person, what is the difference between you and the criminal who has committed the crime of killing another individual. Furthermore, capital punishment can be inappropriate and unjust. It's not necessary. There is always a solution to the problem, instead of putting people to death sentence we could simply put them behind bars as he or she may improve himself. For instance, persons who have served life sentences have

Should Cloning Be Banned ? essee

Should cloning be banned ? Cloning is using genetic engineering to make exact copies of living animals and plants. One of the most famous cloning processes involved a sheep named Dolly. The sheep was the first mammal cloned from adult DNA. Since then it has become part of real life and the subject of public debate. For some people, human cloning is acceptable in medicine in spite of the criticism that it is repulsive. Firstly, cloning the organs can save many lives. For example when a person needs an organ and can not find a donor, doctors could just give her the cloned organ. People would not need to donate their organs anymore. Secondly, parents who can not have children may wish to clone a child for themselves. Also endangered animal or plants could be cloned to rise their species. On the other hand, there are also many arguments againts cloning

There is something distinctive about every generation

distinctive. Having about four generations living together is something very important, but in these days we tend to forget that. Every generation has something to teach the others, all of them have different experiences, conceptions and ways they like to solve problems. For example the ways people acted fifty years ago may not fit into today's world, but then there are the grandchildren's generation that can show and teach elderly how it is acceptable to do something. And then there are older generations that can remind youngers why it is important to appreciate family relations, remember your relatives and what are real values in life, because in this fast-changing world it is sometimes quite hard to distinguish important from unimportant. Last year was the year of active ageing and solidarity between generations. I think it was very nice initiative. It reminded so many important things to people. We should not forget how

Living in the Big Apple

First and foremost, if live in the Big Apple you are exposed to the diversity of people, which gives you an oppurtunity to enrich yourself by seeing other cultures. Despite the fact that living in New York is a big financial struggle you can still have a lot of fun on budget. Furthermore, there are a lot of shops in New York which are open 24 hours a day, so everything is at your fingertips. On the other hand, there is a lot of pollution and noise in the Big Apple, but I think it's acceptable for a hudge city like New York. Besides the pollution and noise, there is a much bigger problem in the Big Apple and that problem is crime. It's becoming a dangerous place to live, but the clampdown on crime has improved the city tremendously. The agressive nature of New Yorkers is also a problem peole are pushing you out of the way on the subway or in the street. So there are both positive and negative aspects to live in the Big Apple, and if

Peace and keeping

It sounds simple and easy, but for some reason, throughout the history, it has been very difficult to actually keep peace. Why then is it so important? Firstly, when there is peace, people are happy. Friendly relations with neighbours and different countries give people an oppurtunity to live normal lives. However, for example, when there are some tensions between two countries, the people of those countries would live in constant fear and threat. Secondly, violence is not acceptable in any form or situation. I think that when there are disagreements between some countries, they should try to solve them verbally. It is natural that we don`t all agree with everything, but a certain level of acceptance and understanding must be reachable with words. Luckily, there are more and more international peace organizations that help acheive and maintain peace. They are doing everything that they can to keep the world from destroying itself.

Essey: Capital Punishment

mentally retarded people and juvenile delinquents. In this case, capital punishment looks like senseless cruelty. A number of states had already passed legislation adopted by the Supreme Court in June 2002 prohibiting such executions to this group of people. As for juvenile delinquents, we should admit their lack of maturity thus they may be less culpable than adults who commit crimes. Ultimately, the death penalty is an utter denial of human rights. It implies that killing is acceptable under certain circumstances. Relatively few developed countries in the world impose the death penalty. Japan and South Korea are the only established democracies in the world, other than the US, which still conduct executions. The execution rate in Japan is a small fraction of that in the US. So it is high time the US society kept track with other civilized countries which value individual life and liberty above all else, where justice, not vengeance, is the only guiding principle of the

Art-based learning

To understand the message of the art, we must realize that christian art expresses itself in a unique way. For example it re-tells the bible stories in a visual way, but still offers them in traditional way beautifully. It also brings together scene, eventse, places and times even when they are far apart in reality. Futhermore it enables historical-cultural inheritance to be rediscovered and so on. Basically it is exeptional and gives pupils an opportunity to interpreter like it is acceptable for them(Mazzarello:107). In conclusion I find this method rather useful. It makes the lessons more interesting, but it also helps children in their process of learning. As we know diffrent pupild learn in a different way. But teaching through art can help them all. If we look at the picture, the visual learners have a benefit, but when we read and discuss about picture other ways of learning also benefot from it. Pupils can see, talk, hear and read about it. Also during discussion they can

Estonians and their habits

snow? Classmate: Fine. Me (already feeling that our conversation is not going anywhere): So, did you like your holidays? Classmate: I think so. If you take a look at a wardrobe of an average Estonian, it may consist of 20 different shades of black and grey. Estonians wear warm clothes when it's 25 degrees Celsius in April just because it's April, or wear shorts and t-shirts when it's barely 10 degrees in July just because it's July. The old habit of being "fashionably late" is no longer acceptable. One is always on time. However Estonians become complete opposites of themselves when they get drunk. They talk, laugh, kiss and hug non-stop! Although, Estonians have many good habits which other cultures may not have. Estonian people love and cherish their culture and history. They hold massive dance and song festivals every year. Estonians also love to work and are very purposeful and diligent at what they do. They are good friends and can be very supportive when you are in need.

go there. In most of cases, country house is built on a large area, which is still a dwelling house in addition to other buildings, such as a sauna or a barn. Great yard for children are convenient and good for playing, also there is suitable to grow some animals and keep pets. There is clean and fresh air, forest is very close, where people can go hiking or just simply walk and enjoy the nature. Home-grown vegetables and root vegetables are always more acceptable than a shop bought food. Living in the country is certainly cheaper. The disadvantages of living in the country is clearly a fact that it is too far to go to the shopping, work or other things to do necessary for in everyone's life. In the countryside living person is often may start to miss the different entertainment which in the city is every step of the way very easily accessible. Some rural areas may be even so far from

means, they simply imitate, what they have heard from parents, for example. Usually, when a child swears, it may show to others, how the child`s parents have raised him/her. Of course there are certain situation as well, where swearing is unacceptable, for example formal events, among people who are complete strangers, with parents, grandparents, at school etc. Although swearing may be in some ways a positive phenomenon, people should use swear words only when really necessary or where it is acceptable. Of course, parents should teach their children, why they can not use certain words and how offensive they are. Actually all people swear and it has beocome quite common, even more common than one might think and it is better to get sworn at than punched at.

My son noticed they no longer had their seats available for them anymore. He thereupon sent an e-mail to a LOT' Estonia representative to clarify the facts. In response they said that the booking was not free since March. The online booking system changed and they could not do anything anymore. Also, the head office in Poland did not find any solution for our problem. I was in shock and could not understand how that was possible. Even if there was a change in the system, is it acceptable to cancel our seating and not inform us about it? On July 4th I went along with my son to the airport and tried to find out about the seating at check-in. Unfortunately we did not find much help from the information desk – though they somehow put my son to sit behind his grandfather on their first flight from Anchorage to Warsaw, but could not do anything on the flight from Warsaw to Toronto. I feel really insecure sending my son on this trip. In Warsaw they had only time to

Character sketch - Shel, Orlando by Virginia Woolf

Orlando thought that Shel's name suited him because "there was something romantic and chivalrous, passionate, melancholy, yet determined about him which went with the wild, dark- plumed name." His full name showed the multi-faceted aspect of his experiences and personality. Orlando chose to call him "Mar" when she was in a dreamy, amorous mood, "Bonthrop" when she was in a solitary mood, and "Shel" when she was in no mood at all. That Shel was a complicated person, made him acceptable as Orlando's husband. After awhile, the wind changed and it was time for Shel to return to his ship and sail away. However, before that they quickly let the servant wed them. Shel proved his love and went off, and Orlando got a ring that she had wanted. Although Shel was far away, they communicated between each other quite often. Orlando sent him telegraphs about her doings and vice versa. In the end of the book, it is nicely described how Orlando felt when she saw her husband's ship

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

The right to remain silent and the right of representation also find their grounds in the prohibition of self-incrimination. These rights are at the base of a fair trial. A fair trial can be seen as an objective establishment of truth. Doing this by means of forcing confessions cannot be seen as objectively valid and can thus not be considered as evidence in a fair trial. How much importance utilitarians would see in this is disputable, as by stating that torture is acceptable in certain circumstances, they also could argue an unfair trial is acceptable in certain circumstances. Regardless, if one wishes to publicly trial a person after they have been tortured, in the eyes of the general public the laws will have to be adhered to and thus grounded evidence must have been obtained by then in order to be able to present it. Failing to do so and deciding to take action behind closed doors would then just be an extension of

Hoe to write an argumentative essay?

too. In essays that express the writer's opinion mainly, one paragraph (usually the last one before the conclusion) should be reserved for the opposing viewpoint. When writing an essay, information should not be unnecessarily repeated. The same is true for grammatical patterns and vocabulary: different grammatical patterns and words make the essay more interesting and easily readable. As an essay is a formal piece of writing, contractions (e.g. isn't, aren't, etc.) are not acceptable because they are not formal enough. S/he can be used instead of the cumbersome "he or she" to save space when having in mind a person of either sex, or the also politically correct "they" for the singular. There should be neither slang forms nor colloquialisms. It is important to be as precise and to the point as possible. Hinting at things is not a good idea because essays are not meant to be read by friends who know

Irish Christmas

Every window in the house is garlanded with lights. The Christmas Tree The tree is decorated with tinsel and baubles and lights and gifts are put underneath. The gifts are opened on Christmas morning, not before! Here is a nice collection of Christmas ornaments and decorations from Ireland. Gift Giving: Presents are a big thing in Ireland. One need only visit the cousins to find that nearly anything that is admired is offered. The usual politeness must be abandoned. It's acceptable to tell another that a scarf, for example, suits them, but to admire it outright is akin to asking for it. Beware. At Christmas, gifts are given to the whole family. The Irish are generous people. If it is at all possible, everyone gets a little something. Usually, there is one main gift given by the person closest and a constellation of small gifts are exchanged based on relationship. At the very least, a Christmas card, usually with a robin or cardinal on it, and

Julian Assange - elulugu

while Assange was visiting Stockholm, he started crashing with -- and sleeping with -- a woman. Rape and molestation charges against him stemming from the same incidents were dropped, only to be more recently reinstated. · Smith offered to an address for bail -- Smith's Norfolk mansion, Ellingham Hall - In a hearing at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 7 December 2010, Assange identified a post office box as his address. When told by the judge that this information was not acceptable, he submitted "Parkville, Victoria, Australia" on a sheet of paper. His lack of permanent address and nomadic lifestyle were cited by the judge as factors in denying bail.[148] He was ultimately released, in part because journalist Vaughan Smith offered to provide Assange with an address for bail during the extradition proceedings, Smith's Norfolk mansion, Ellingham Hall. + ABC news Magazine Covers /Symbol of truth / Interviews 1)Midweek Politics, CNN 2)Larry King

Sexualisation of women in advertising

To my surprise their opinion differed greatly as they didn’t find the advertisement revolting at all! In fact they found it clever and funny. This was the moment when I felt that writing this opinion column is simply essential. I believe that there are crucial problems in our society when a young teenage boy looks at these sexist adds, like Burger King’s and thinks that it is normal and acceptable to be that disrespectful towards women. That kind of thinking might result in males’ sexism and demeaning behavior toward women. I wrote this opinion column to open our collective eyes about the sexualisation of women in commercials and to ring the proverbial alarm in regards to sexism in media. Also, we must be aware of the impact of the media on teenagers’ minds and values

URO Security Council kriis, United nations Legitimacy crisis

questions regarding its legitimacy tended to focus upon its failure adequately to represent a UN membership which had almost quadrupled since the organization's founding (Fassbender, 1998; Morris, 2000). However, as disagreements between the P-5 emerged over the Kosovo crisis in 19981999, and even more significantly in relation to Iraq in 2003, this debate was overshadowed by one regarding the criteria to be applied in determining the acceptable bounds within which states may have recourse to the use of force. It is an exploration of these issues, and the fundamental bearing that they have on the UNSC's legitimacy, that forms the principal focus of this article. The first of these harbours concerns regarding the legitimacy of the UNSC, which it sees as being undermined by the Council's apparent inability to constrain great power use of force, particularly by the United States. This interpretation of the crisis of

complete and the development of the special ceramic tiles for the shells took over three years. The project was not helped by the changes to the brief. Construction of the shells was one of the most difficult engineering tasks ever to be attempted. The revolutionary concept demanded equally revolutionary engineering and building techniques. From 1957 to 1963, the design team went through at least twelve iterations of the form of the shells trying to find an economically acceptable form (including schemes with parabolas, circular ribs and ellipsoids) before a workable solution was completed. The design work on the shells involved one of the earliest uses of computers in structural analysis, in order to understand the complex forces to which the shells would be subjected. In mid-1961, the design team found a solution to the problem: the shells all being created as sections from a sphere. This solution allows arches of varying length to be cast in a common mould, and a

Report: estonian ecnomy

The GDP value of Germany represents 6.21% of the world economy. The unemployment rate in Germany is 4.7% which is considerably lower than in Estonia. The minimum wage in Germany is 1473 eur per month. It is over three times the minimum wage in Estonia. Germany is on 15th spot on cost of living index by country 2016 which is not much higher than Estonia. Compared to Estonia, the German soil is relatively poor in raw materials. Conclusion Estonian economic state is acceptable. Although Estonian population is rather small, Estonia has come a long way in technology with innovative ideas and products. The statistics show that Estonia can compete with many other countries. I do not think there is anything specific I would change about Estonia.

Writing a formal letter in english about a newspaper ad

You have to use one of them. 1. The first paragraph is meant for saying why you write, where did you get the information from and what the advertisement was about. In case newspaper's name is not mentioned in the task, it would be good if you could make one up. P1: General information For example: ,,I am writing to you in response to your advertisement in The Times about a flat to let at Finsbury Park, London." This would be the whole first paragraph and totally acceptable. Usually it is quite well said in the task, which information you have to ask. There are about 6-7 questions. It is essential that you put them in a logical order. Some of the questions (at least 3-4 questions) should be indirect questions. NB! Sentence ,,Could you tell me, when will be the flat available" is NOT an INDIRECT QUESTION, because it is a request. Requests are not good to be used in a formal letter. These questions should be used in one paragraph

BEPS project Action 4: Interest deductions and other financial payments Maris Leemets 10.08.2016 Peer Assignment in Module 3 The OECD with its Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project is working towards proposing politically feasible and multilaterally acceptable ways to minimize the corporate tax base erosion and profit shifting activities since 2013. Out of its 15 main lines of work under BEPS project (called Actions) I will concentrate on Action 4 which aims at proposing new rules for preventing the manipulation of interest expense related tax deductions of corporates. The underlying problem is that multinational groups can easily create and relocate debt in their group according to

The Noble Savage in the 20th Century Fiction

(1996). They are all distinctive from the modern world, change the course of the journey for the main character and easily get our attention to give us the moral of the story. The problem with the stock character of a mentor is sometimes they are defined by comic relief. Although we look up to them and greatly admire their teaching, their weirdness still freaks us out a bit and these quirky sides of the mentor are funny to us. Laughter makes things more acceptable, it lets us trust the guide and accept the moral of the story. It not a big issue in creating this character but it reduces the respect we should have to it. The reason we do not learn anything from the hero lies with our need to identify ourselves with a character. The story would not be interesting if there were nobody we can relate to. The adventure our hero takes is the same we go through while reading a book or watching a film.

An analysis of the problem of Political Power - essee

(McLaughlin, 2010) Thirdly, theological. It means that person will get divine right to rule. This system can work mostly in the states, where people are seriously and deeply religious, because theological power means that it is God's will and God has chosen the ruler. (McLaughlin, 2010) Fourthly, voluntaristic. It means that person will get the right to rule voluntarily. It contains duty of gratitude (benefits I did not ask). (McLaughlin, 2010) Mostly we think that only democracy can be totally acceptable. But what is democracy? Is it really so drawing power? (Wolff, 1996) Some say that democracy is the rule of the people, by the people, for the people. But does democracy really deserve the reputation that it has? (Wolff, 1996) The word of (citicens) means that democracy is internal. The word by means that in is collective (selfgovernment). The word for means that there should be public interest about political power. Three theories
