and “Persuasion” messages and themes, to search similar characters and to compare them, then analyse, if the author has her own certain stereotypes in her two writings. For this I chose two of my personal favourites from her creation: “Pride and prejudice” and “Persuasion”. In the first chapter I wrote about Austen’s life and development of her creation, in the second I compared writer’s books’ society’s backround to the real life 19th century’s England, the third and the fourth chapter is about “Pride and prejudices” and “Persuasions” themes and characterizations. In the fifth chapter I brought similar parallels between the characters and in the sixth part I prepared final analysis based on similar character-pairs. It emerged, that the two author novels have common motives, for example the main character pairs are each other’s contrast, balancing one another with it and creating a perfect harmony,

Russia Throughout the History

For the first time the city Moscow became an important centre. Over time the Rurik dynasty in Russia had had 7 rulers. The first czar was appointed in 1547- Ivan IV the terrible. After Ivan IV the terrible died the "Time of Troubles" began. The next czar was Michael Romanov, whose family ruled the empire for the next 300 years. The Romanov's couldn't make many changes in the empire's economy and political life ( " H i s t o r y o f r u s s i a , " ) . At the beginning of the 19th century Napoleon started his invasions to The Russian Empire. The czar at that time was Alexander I. Napoleon made a big mistake with attacking Russia in the winter, because the army was not used to the merciless climate. Napoleon's army had to retreat and go back to France. The whole world understood now how powerful and strong the Russian empire was ( " I n v a s i o n o f r u s s i a , " ) . Russian empire became more industrialized and the political system stronger and

It won its complete independence in 1917. During World War II, it was able to successfully defend its freedom and resist invasions by the Soviet Union albeit with some loss of territory. In the subsequent half century, the Finns made a remarkable transformation from a farm/forest economy to a diversified modern industrial economy; per capita income is now among the highest in Western Europe. The novel is notable for its detailed portrait of the people, culture, and varied religions of India. "The book presents a vivid picture of India, its teeming populations, religions, and superstitions, and the life of the bazaars and the road. Kim (Kimball O'Hara) is the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor white mother who have both died in poverty. Living a vagabond existence in India under British rule in the late 19th century, Kim earns his living by begging and running small errands on the streets of Lahore. He occasionally works for Mahbub Ali, a horse trader who is one of the native operatives of the British secret service. Kim is so immersed in the local culture, few realise he is a white child, though he carries a packet of documents from his father entrusted to him by an Indian woman who cared for him. The ‘matematization’ of Logic Syllogisms have been the main form of argument studied in logic for 2000 years (from Aristotle to the 19th Century). It was believed that all arguments, even every complex ones, could ultimately be reduced to a series/combination of syllogisms. However, in the 19th Century, the limitations of this theory became clear and new formalisms were developed. The idea was to handle more complicated problems, more efficiently, with the aid of mathematical symbolism. The traditional dwelling where the Inuit lived used to be an igloo, which is a domeshaped house built out of blocks of ice. The Inuit traveled in a sledge pulled by dogs and their main weapon was the harpoon. For many centuries, the Canadian Inuit lived in nearly total isolation. Only at the beginning of the 19th century were they more permanent trading relations with whale hunters and fur merchants. Nowadays, the majority of the Inuit live in some 28 remote communities scattered across the barren landscape of the northern shores of their new territorial mainland and Arctic islands. Their traditional lifestyles have been changing a lot recently the dogsledge has been largely replaced by snowmobiles, cars and trucks. Some have central heating,

London

In the 1830s, the Industrial Revolution turned London into a manufacturing and trading centre. During the Victorian era the British Empire became powerful and rich. During the reign of Victoria, London expanded enormously as industry came to Britain and railways were built linking much of Britain to the capital. In 1834 the Houses of Parliament at Westminster Palace burned down. They were gradually replaced by nowadays Houses of Parliament designed by Charles Barry. The early part of the 19th century was the golden age of steam. The first railway in London was built from London Bridge to Greenwich in 1836, and a great railway boom followed. Major stations were built in London. During the Victorian time, a large part of the city was ventilated through the sewers. Sewage was dumped right into the Thames. When tunnels and pipes were built to direct the sewage outside the city, outbreaks of diseases were drastically reduced.

More than 6000 years before the arrival of the European settlers Aboriginal people inhabited most areas of the Australian European settlement. There were estimated 300,000 Indigenous Australians living on the continent. By the end of 19th century, because of the white people who came to conquer the new lands and mine the gold, there were only 60 000 native Australians left. Now there are about 160 000 Aborigines in Australia. Most of them live in the cities but some of them still try to follow the steps of their ancestors. The first undisputed recorded European sighting of the mainland of the Australian continent was made by the Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon, who sighted the coast in 1606

After Queen Elizabeth I defeated the Irish army in the battle of Kinsale in 1601, a large number of Protestants came to Ireland, settling down mostly in the northern part of the island. Conflicts between the Protestant settlers and the Irish Catholics arose. The Act of Union in 1801 made England and Ireland one country with one parliament in London. During the 19th century, more and more people in Ireland wanted to regain its independence. In 1916 a group of Irish Nationalists, with their leader Patrick Pearse, declared Ireland a free country. This was followed by a battle in which Pearse was killed. In 1918, his men joined a group called Sinn Féin, which became the IRA – the Irish Republican Army. A short history of the development of stylistics Stylistics is regarded a relatively new branch of philology, yet its roots go back as far as ancient Greece and Rome, where the rhetoricians (retoorikud) cultivated the art of clear and elegant use of language by developing and polishing stylistic devices. In the 18th century, an individualistic-psychological view on style and stylistics emerges. The late 19th and and early 20th centuries witnessed a utilitarian approach to stylistics. The tendency to regard stylistics as an applied science has been particularly marked in english- 1 speaking countries. It was believed here that the main aim of stylistics is to improve the style of the writer and of a textbook, that is to show how better to express one's thoughts. stylistics. According to this view style bears the stamp of individual usage, that is every writer has a unique pattern of habits that form his style (e.g. W. Woolf - some of her starting phrases begin with "For"). This approach is best illustrated in the well-known dictum of the French poet and stylist Georges Louis de Buffon: "Style is the man himself". The late 19th century and early 20th century saw the appearance of the utilitarian (pragmatic) approach to stylistics: the tendency to regard stylistics as an applied science it has been particularly strong in the English speaking countries. ornamental plant. By 1716, an English patent had been granted for squeezing oil from sunflower seeds but the sunflower was never really viewed as a food plant until it reached Russia. By 1830, sunflower oil was being commercially manufactured. The Russian Orthodox Church increased the popularity of sunflower oil when sunflower was left off the list of oil foods prohibited from being consumed during Lent. By the early 19th Century, Russian farmers were growing over 2 million acres of sunflowers and government research programs were being implemented in Russia. By the late 19th Century, Russian sunflower seed had found its way into the United States, probably being reintroduced by Russian immigrants. The first commercial use of the sunflower crop in the United States was as silage feed for poultry. In 1926, the Missouri Sunflower Grower's Association processed sunflower seed into oil.

Now Christmas is a mixture of the traditional, the modern, the secular, and the religious. Like in other Nordic states, Estonia's celebration of Christmas mostly falls on Christmas Eve, however, Christmas season starts from Advent with people buying Advent calendars or lighting Advent candles. the first public Christmas tree was placed on Town Hall Square in Estonia, Tallinn already in 1441? The tradition of bringing Christmas tree home was spread to the countryside in the 19th century by the local BalticGerman population. The Christmas tree has always been an evergreen firtree, except for a few places, where because of lack of woods, pine was used instead. The first Christmas tree decorations were toys, sweets and later candles. why on Christmas Eve, people had to eat for 7, 9, or even 12 times? These were magic numbers and the excessive eating would make sure that the next year would be rich in food. If men ate seven times during Christmas night, they were

"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

Stiva represents the worst aspects of the social world, since he hasn't earned his way through life. On his way out of the house, Stiva almost forgets to apologize to Dolly. When he does so, she becomes furious with him, humiliated by his pity. She realizes she wants his love but can never have it. It is important to note here that Dolly and Stiva are the product of an arranged, "French," marriage, in which romance was not a major element. Their marriage, modeled on those of 18th and 19th century France, was arranged to augment the families' social status. Russian nobility during this time often modeled their behavior after the French, who, they thought, lived a more stylish lifestyle. A man named Konstantin Levin arrives to see Stiva. This is the first appearance of one of the book's protagonists. It is easy to notice the contrast between Levin and Stiva. Stiva is the height of sophistication, and Levin seems blue-collar by comparison; it is the difference between city life

By an Order in Council of 9 July 1864 the present official system of flags was confirmed. Its final travertine paving, still visible, dates from the reign of Augustus. Excavations in the 19th century revealed one layer on top of another. The deepest level excavated was 3.60 meters above sea level. eared cats were from Peking Province in the north. Buffon's leap was further misinterpreted by later authors such as French writer Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest who combined the name "sumxu" with the description of the lop-eared cat (its white colour being unknown to him) as "hanging-ear cat, fur long and fine, black or yellow, domesticated in China in Peking province (Pe-chi-ly) under the name of sumxu". This was perpetuated through the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially by cat fanciers looking for new and exotic cats to import. When China reopened to foreigners after the Opium Wars, a number of missionaries, entrepreneurs, cat fanciers and researchers went looking in vain for the lop-eared cat. In his book "Variation of Animals and Plants Under Domestication" Charles Darwin referred briefly to a drooping eared race of cats in China. In "The Cat" by Lady Cust (1870) it states "Bosman

“Germania” (98 AD). By the end of the first millennium the people of Western Europe referred to the land of our ancestors with the name Estonia (derived from Germanic languages and means East). The Estonians, our Finno-Ugric forefathers settled here in approximately 5,000 BC from northern Russia and the Urals, as fishermen and hunters. They called themselves “rural people”, the term “Estonians” started to spread three centuries ago, taking firm root in the middle of the 19th century. From the 13th century onwards the ancient Estonians had to continually fight for their freedom, against the Danes, Germans, Swedes, Poles and Russians. The Russians annexed the Estonian territory from Sweden after the Great Northern War in 1721 by the Treaty of Nystad. After the fall of Tsarist Russia in 1917, Estonians fought for their independence, and in 1918 the Republic of Estonia was established and endured until 1940

We delude ourselves about African Kingdoms which had thrived before the onslaught of first the Arabs, and later the Caucasians. We talk about the Pyramids of Egypt, the great empire of Mali and the learning capital of Timbuktu. Yes, I am constrained to agree that these were great legacies that our ancestors left us, but one cannot deny the fact that in the middle Passage of the 19th century we stopped functioning as a people with intelligence and the instinct to defend ourselves. In the 17th century, more than 36 million African men and women were taken into slavery and to the shores of America. Of that 36 million, more than 18 million died in the Trans-Atlantic crossings. Listen, don’t get me wrong. We are talking of over 36 million African men and women who were rounded up by a handful of Caucasians and our ancestors could not do much to stop the onslaught

Eesti eluasemefondi puitkorterelamute ehitustehniline seisukord ning prognoositav eluiga

Mida suurem on renoveerimistööde maksumus, seda väiksem on tasuvusaeg. Suurema investeeringu korral on loomulikult laenu tagasimakse suurem, aga kuna suurema investeeringu korral saavutatakse väiksem energiakulu, on ka laenu tagasimakse suurem parema energiatõhususarvu korral. 303 16 Conclusions Wooden apartment buildings have been constructed in Estonian towns throughout time; a typical Estonian neighbourhood in the 19th and beginning of the 20th century was often a suburb with primarily wooden construction. Thus our people are used to wooden apartment buildings and in the near future these buildings will not disappear from our dwelling stock/reserve. Wooden apartment buildings with their individual scale and intimacy offer interesting opportunities to establish a unique home in many modern towns. Today we consider old wooden apartment buildings to be an important part of our cultural heritage

talk the company had taught us, whim emphasized the features of the books. But, a new sales manager began teaching us to sprinkle our presentations with the names of previous customers-for example, "Sue Johnson wanted to get the set so she could read Bible stories to her kids." I began following this ap- proach in week 16, and I found that during weeks 16-19 my weekly sales average jumped to $893, a 62.13% increase! There is more to the story, however. I explic- itly remember that during my 19th week, it dawned on me that while using the names had increased my sales overall, it had also made me lose some sales. The key event happened when I was presenting one day to a housewife. She seemed interested in the books but couldn't decide if she should order or not. At this point, I mentioned some married friends of hers who had bought. She then said something like, "Mary and Bill bought ... ? Well, I had better talk to Harold be- fore deciding. It would be better if we decided together."
