There are more man writers in Estonia, but still each of them are astonishing. 2.Marie Under 18831980. She lived in Moscow for a while and then returned to Estonia and started writing. Founded Estonian Literary Society and was the honour member of it. She wrote poems in Germany at first, but them got inspiration to write poems in Estonian, working in newspaper ,,Teataja". Essay about necessaty of zoos

Zoos are sometimes seen as necessary alternatives to a natural environment. Not only people are trying to keep endangered species and rare animals in the nature reserves, but also the number of zoos built around the world is slowly growing. Do we actually need those kind of man-made "homes" for animals or is it better for them to live outside cement walls in their natural habitat? First of all, nowadays we need to help the nature and animals that are the ones facing quite big danger of becoming extinct. Mostly it is caused by our selfish attitude: we do not take care of nature. Zoo is one of the solutions to help to preserve nature and to protect it from poachers. For example Loxodonta africana is an African elephant who has been hunt down and whose population was significantly reduced in 20th century. The population in the Tanzanian Selous Game Reserve, once the largest of any reserve in the world, dropped from 109 000 in ...

Modern Hero

Modern hero People have always looked up to heroes, talked, written and made movies or plays about them. They have given people hope and dreams and aspirations to become better, stronger and braver. The need for a hero has always existed but the definition and the purposes of a hero have changed. Centuries ago a hero was reckoned to be someone with super human courage, abnormal powers or with abilities to use magic items. A hero used to be somebody who fought magical creatures of evil and conniving kings or lords. A past hero usually saved the world from being ruled by evil forces (Eragon) or a clan from being destroyed (Beowulf killed Grendel and his mother to help the village). A hero like that was respected by the elderly people and always glorified by his family (in case they were still alive at the end of the story). It used to take a long journey and a fascinating victory to be recognized as ...

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Movie was well done. None too big cuts. All good quotations were present but it felt to me that in some places they were a bit too forced (crammed together). Alltogether I liked the movie and it gave away the meaning of the book pretty well. The storyteller explaines in the beginning that Harry likes to play with people. Not good. The novel has no reference to Dorian being painted with an Egyptian goddess shaped like a cat who could grant his wish, as the film has. Appears throughout the whole movie. Girls signs the painting- Glaidis, Basils niece. Dorian stole her heart. Also important in later recognising the corpse. In Wilde's original, Sybil Vane is a Shakespearean actress whom Dorian observes playing Juliet, rather than the gifted dance-hall singer seen in this film. This necessitates altering Dorian's motive for breaking up with her. In the novel, her acting has become shallow as a result of really falling in love with Dorian,...

Arvustus "The Queen"

"The people´s princess" 31 August 1997. I guess that almost everyone knows how dramatic that date was. England lost the princess who should become the Queen- but all went wrong. The film took place in United Kingdom and it talked about the Royal Family. At the beginning of the film Tony Blair was appointed as the United Kingdom´s prime minister. Blair visited Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen Elizabeth. Three months later princess Diana, the Queen Elizabeth´s daughter, had a car accident in Paris- she died. Blair gave the speech in which Diana was described as "the people´s princess". All the people in England were in shock and in tears. The country was in deep grief. Since Diana was divorced from her husband Charles, she was no longer a part of the Royal Family. At first, Elizabeth insisted that the funeral must be private. Eventually she changed her mind and she agreed to bring Diana´s bod...

We all have felt good about donating something.

Mait Rõõmus Mr. Savala English 4 26 September 2013 Prompt #5 We all have felt good about donating something. It gives us inner peace, satisfaction, and an overall benevolent feeling. Donating money, clothes or "yourself" by volunteering does not require us to do the impossible we do that which is quite possible. A few weeks ago, I went through my friend's wallet and found an organ donor card. It really made me think. Would I be willing to donate an organ to help someone or to receive an organ from someone I do not know if I needed it? This whole idea makes me stop and think. Health issues are very common nowadays and luckily, medical science has advanced so much that nearly everything is curable. In addition to good medical science, organ transplants have improved too. You can replace almost everything from your body. But when all of these great advances come down...

Writing and Me - An Essay

Writing and Me When I was younger I absolutely loved to read books and desperately yearned to be a writer. The idea of waking up in the morning and not having to go to work appealed to me, I imagined the life of a writer as something relaxed and effortless. If I were a writer I could sleep until noon if I wished to, take my morning coffee to the balcony, light a cigarette, let the sun lightly kiss my face and just write. About anything. And it would come naturally. Except it did not. Do you know the feeling after you wake up from a really good dream? When you are desperately clinging to it, trying to remember everything, but it all just floats away as if you were trying to catch smoke with your bare hands? That is what writing feels like to me. I used to think that I had so much to say, so many ideas to share, so much inside of me that just had to be let out or otherwise I woul...

Libraries

Libraries. We know a lot of things thanks to books, but we do not know exactly when and where they originated, and what should be considered the first book in the world. Ancient document, written on parchment, papyri and vellum can hardly be qualified as books the way we understand the word today. Centuries went before paper replaced parchment and papyri. In the 15 th century Johann Gutenberg invented a mechanical process of duplicating texts, which we today call book printing. The first book was printed between 1444 and 1446, so these years can be considered as the beginning years of book printing. His most important preserved printings are the 40 copies of the Bible. By the end of the 15 th century there were about 1000 print-shops in Europe already. The oldest Estonian book dates back to 1535. Libraries form a vital part of education. They make available-through books, f...

Book report/review "The Snow Child"

The Snow Child English The Snow Child is a book by Eowyn Ivey. The author was inspired by the Russian fairytale Snegurotska while writing her debut novel. story takes place in Alaska 1920's and it talks about a couple, Jack and Mabel, who decide to make a snow girl out of snow. The next day the snow girl has become a real human being. Before Jack and Mable were living in Alaska they were living in Pennsylvania. They moved to Alaska to get away from the family, because they had lost their first child. It was hard for Mabel to recover there, because there were children around all the time. In Alaska they were living a very isolated life - no neighbours, no friends. In addition, at that time there did not exist such things as food shops, so they had to hunt all their food. Life was quite hard in Alaska and I am not so sure that ...

Catherine Morland My name is Catherine Morland. I would like to tell you a bit about myself. To begin with, I am seventeen years old and grew up in a countryside in a small town named Fullerton with my parents and nine siblings. As a child I was interested in many things like drawing, sports and music. I was very lively and cheerful, enjoyed cricket, horse riding and just hated cleanliness and restriction. As I grew up, I chose reading over sports and all of the wild games I used to like. Undoubtedly, I would now describe myself with the word naivety. I am very naïve and do not notice the most obvious things happening around me. I really hope that it is caused by the lack of experience and will eventually pass. In addition, I find myself a kind and caring person because I always want and agree to help people when needed. Furthermore, I really like reading. Sometimes I think that I read too much because I often mix fiction up with reali...

Dear Ann, I am writing to you from my new house, that I just moved in yesterday. The house really looks fantastic, it is surrounded with a luxuriant garden. And it's a quiet area, but the best thing about it is that it is less that kilometer from the city center. Inside, the house is nice and comfortable. It has two floors. On the ground floor there is bed-rooms, a living-room, a bathroom with a shower, a dinning-room, a kitchen and a toilet. It is air-conditioned and well-furnished. The living-room is decorated beautifully. Paintings by famous artists are hung on the walls. Upstairs there is my own huge bedroom and bathroom. I hope I'll see you here soon, darling! Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student

Life in Estonia through the eyes of an economics student With a population of 1 313 271 people, Estonia is one of the least populous member states of the European Union. However, according to the IMF, it is a developed country with an advanced and high-income economy. Estonia follows market economy system which ensures the little government intervention and the determination of prices of goods and services in a free price system. Therefore, economic decisions are guided solely by the aggregate interactions of a country's citizens and businesses. In addition to mentioned afore, Estonia tends to perform favourably in measurements of civil liberties, education, and press freedom. Living in Estonia has many of its good sides, for instance it is a secure place from nature disasters and it has a beautiful nature. Although, when not to look only through rose-tinted glasses, there are still some minuses in country’s organiz...

Giving opinion

4. If you ask me, _______ 4.0 GIVING YOUR OPINION ABOUT A TOPIC 4.1 Expressing a strong opinion In my opinion, fashion is a complete waste of time, money and resources. In my opinion, there's only one choice - English! In my view, government money shouldn't be used to support the Arts. In my reckoning, if we could lock up juvenile criminals, they'd learn that they couldn't get away with it. I strongly believe in preventing problems before they happen. In much the same way as the Japanese prepare for earthquakes, countries with dry climates could have water catchment systems and reservoirs to defend against water shortage. I definitely think that countries should be self-sufficient in food and basic necessities. Don't you think it's better to stay single? Well, if you ask me, it all depends on your circumstances. Well, I th...

Reading task

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief A film review by Bill Gibron The new Harry Potter wannabe, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, gets so many things right that when it goes astray (which happens with more and more frequency as it goes along) you kind of wish it hadn't tried in the first place. Unless your last name is Harryhausen, you shouldn't really maneuver Greek mythology, and you definitely don't need to use it as a source from some Shrek-inspired collection of tired pop culture riffs. Yet that's exactly what this Chris Columbus helmed half-success does. We begin by learning that the fabled gods of old do exist, and that Zeus is especially mad at brother Poseidon. Seems the head hocho's magical lightning bolt has been stolen, and each accuses the other of using the crime as a means of starting an all out Olympian war. Zeus specifically blames Poseidon's son, Percy Jackson, and soon, all th...

Entry ticket week 39 - Ave Nurmeots

Entry Ticket Week 39 – Ave Nurmeots (62-130) 1. Why is it important to move beyond product innovation?  To be able to compete within the today’s marketplace (continued success and differentiation).  It is not enough anymore just to come up with an innovative product or its features. To achieve a bigger and more sustainable competitive advantage different types of innovations should be combined together. 2. Name an example of a company from the book, which has gone beyond product innovation –explain which of the 9 other types they have used?  I really liked the example of Microsoft reinventing integrated office tools. When I think about it in today’s context, it seems very logical – a lot of companies do that. But that must have been an amazing innovation for that time. They used: o Profit model – instead of paying for the different applications separately, they...

Éclipse chapter 12 - kokkuvõte

Chapter Twelve -Time Walking to the car after school, Alice discloses to Bella that she is planning a graduation party for her and it suddenly dawns on Bella that graduation is only a week away. The deadline agreed for Carlisle to change her into a vampire is almost upon her -- and she realizes in a panic that she isn't ready to leave her human life behind, even though it's what she's wanted more than anything. Without her realizing it, the time for preparing herself has slipped away. Alerted by Bella's stricken silence on the way home, Edward drags an admission out of her that she is isn't really ready, but Bella insists that the combined threat from Victoria, the Volturi, and the recent mysterious intruder in her room makes it too dangerous to postpone her transformation. Edward insists that he won't let her go through with this until she feels safe and can freely decide what she really wants. None of the Cullens had a choice about ...

Body Shaming

My speech is about Body-Shaming. I chosed the topic because i think that it is importent to talk about it. Did you ever stop and think about how often we are told to change our appearance? Magazines constantly offer tips about how to lose weight “in days,” appear slimmer “instantly,” and hide our “imperfections”… without actually knowing anything about us, much less our appearance. This is one example of body-shaming, and it is everywhere. It has become the norm to criticize aspects of our bodies as some type of bonding experience with friends – if we all hate our bodies; it somehow makes us feel connected and united. Body-shaming can lead to a vicious cycle of judgment and criticism. Messages from the media and from each other often imply that we should want to change, that we should care about looking slimmer, smaller, and tanner. And if we don’t, we worry that we are at risk of being the target of someone else’s body-shaming comm...

Most unforgettable childhood experience

What is your most unforgettable childhood experience? I have quite many childhood experiences that i remember, but following is the one, what i can remember really well. I was 5 years old, just learned to ride a bike, and as most of kids at the same age, so do i wanted a new bike. One day that my mother came to brought me home from kindergarten, we went home, and i was very surprised when i saw brand new bike standing at living room. I was so excited and immediately wanted to go for a ride, but in outdoors was already dark, so I had to wait next day. At that night i couldn't sleep very well, because i was so excited and anxiously waited for morning. It was one of my best and memorablest days from my childhood.

Letter about my recent health problem

3 March 2012 Dear Jane, How are you? I haven't heard from you in a while. I am writing to tell you about my recent health problem I had food poisoning. I got it when I visited Mexico. I ate something that probably caused it. I am not really sure what it was. I had to drink plenty of fluids and rest a lot. I was down with that poisioning for two days. On the third day I could finally turn back to my normal life and start eating again. That poisoning was very terrible. I felt extremely bad and mostly I was sad about ruining my vacation. For at least two days I couldn't enjoy Mexico. That is all for now. Let me know if your health is okay. I hope I'll hear from you soon. Love, Mari

A letter of inquiry

A letter of inquiry Dear Mrs Maddox, I am writing to inquire about further information about your advertisement in the Daily Mail. I would appreciate it if you could tell me in which foreign countries I could be working and how old I should be if I want to apply for the job. Also, you mentioned that two evenings a week are free so you you possibly tell me which evenings you are talkind about. Could you please tell me, what you mean by suitable accommodation, a private room? The most important thing about the job you are offering is probably salary. You said that salary will be generous and you could offer some benefits. Could you please tell me if it is possible to get a car as a benefit? I am really looking forward to your reply. Yours sincerely, Mati Mets

Educating Rita

Educating Rita In my opinion "Educating Rita" was a pretty good movie and I enjoyed watching it. I think that "Educating Rita" is an educational film. In my opinion the principle of the film, is to say that learning and knowing literature can be useful, you will get smarter and more educated. The movie also says that literature is really not as uninteresting as it seems and it can be quite gripping. At the beginning of the film Rita didn't knew about literature, she knew much less than average person, but at the end, she was so fond of literature and she knew much more than average person and she was more educated than ever. Literature isn't as boring as it seems and it helps moving toward in life. "Educating Rita" was a good movie and I learned that literature has an important role in life.

Volunteer work

Dear Ms Peck, I saw your advertisement about volunteering work. I would like to join in and work with children. My name is Mari Mets and I am 18 years old. I speak Hungarian, English and Russian. I have a driving licence. Despite being 18 years old, I have organised holidays for youngsters before (2001 – Hungary; 2002 – Romania). In addition to that I have taken a course in child psychology (October – January 2000). Also, I really like children, I help with neighbour children on a regular basis. I could help with accommodation, organise games and activities, teach children various skills such as pottery, offer some help with general problems. I have some questions about the volunteer work. Where will the children be from? How long will the holidays be? What will living conditions be like? I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, M. Mets

Letter homework

Morgan Holiday Home Address: My address: 6 February 2014 Beachside Holiday Home Dear Sir or Madam, My family is planning to spend a month in England and we wish to rent a holiday house. I have found the advertisement in the Internet and I am going to ask some questions. First of all I wonder if pets are allowed in the house of family booking? We have a dog and that would be really very difficult to leave him at home alone for two weeks. What about extra fee car parking? How much would it cost? Is there a fridge in the kitchen? I am also interested in price. All the rent costs 252 €? Including bed linen & towels? Or we have to take along our toiletries? And finally: What about internet access? Do you have it? Looking forward to your answer, ...

Book opinion To Kill A Mockingbird

Book opinion I read the book “To Kill A Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee, published in 1960. The books events take place in 1880’s Alabama. I really liked the book and I understand why it’s important for people- especially young people like high-schoolers to read this book. The book gives good insight on why we still have problems with racism around us and how much worse it was back in the 19th and 20th century. It has a good mixture of educational and historical topics and humour. Although many things are told the reader through metaphors, the meaning of the metaphor is often explained, as the book is told through a kid’s point of view. I would recommend this book to high schoolers, as it explains important topics that are still an issue to this day and it may be an eye- opening book to some people.

Character reference (soovituskiri)

To Whom It May Concern, I am very pleased to write a character reference for (name) I have known (name) since (date). I clearly remember the first time I met her. She was very friendly towards everyone and that really gave me a good impression of her. And even now I think she is a very joyful and lovely person, who cares for others as much as for herself. During these two and a half months I have known (name), she has always been very hard-working and extremely passionate about everything she does. She is strong-willed and if she somehow doesn't succeed in something, she tries again and again until she does. (name) is also very committed to her education and very industrious. Her favourite subjects are math and Estonian. I would certainly recommend (name) for any position where hard-working, passionate and co- operative people are valued. Sincerely, (signature, name)
