Letter of advertisement

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing with regard to your advertisement in the newspaper " Times " on 10th September. I would be grateful if you could send me further information about the cars you introduce in your company. I would appreciate if you could answer a few questions I have. I am interested in buying a car for traveling through the Europe. I would like to know how fast is this car and if it consumes petrol or any other fuel. I would also like to know more about the test drive. I am interested in buying it, so I would be grateful if I could test this car . I wonder how many people can this car carry. I am living alone, so it would be better if car would look smaller. I love small sport cars more, than family cars. I want to thank you for reading my letter. I am looking forward to receive an answer from you . Yours faithfully, Karin Lett . ...

Fabio Capello

The FA may be hoping he learns to keep his opinions to himself. By Cahal Milmo A touchline philosopher The blazerati of the Football Association are well known for their dislike of controversy. In the past, rampant publicity over the personal affairs of England managers has done little to endear them to the sport's mandarins. So a disciplined, conservative Italian who attempts to shun the limelight, avoids late nights and socialises outside football circles would appear to be their man. Yesterday, Fabio Capello sat down for talks with FA bosses that are expected to result in him being awarded a multi-million pound contract before Christmas. A perfect match? Well, possibly. There's just one thing. The conservatism that makes the61-year-old so appealing to some has for others , on occasion, gone just a little bit too far. Capello you see has a habit of spouting forth with opinions on public life. And those figures he admires most play their politics wide on the right. Described variously as "uncompromising", "disciplinarian" and "impatient", Capello has recently expressed his support for those such as Pope Benedict XVI and Silvio Berlusconi. He has praised the organisational "skills" of General Franco. In a sport derided for its navel-gazing insularity and fondness for talking in cliches, the would-be successor to Steve McClaren deliberately seeks his friends outside football, has an impressive modern art collection, travels to obscure locations and prefers to spend his evenings listening to classical music. When asked recently about his testy attitude towards the media circus that surrounds the game, he said: "People say I'm impatient when it comes to football and they're right. I can't stand the cra...

Water pollution

Dumping of litter in the sea can also cause huge problems. Different items take different lengths of time to degrade in water. Oceans are polluted by oil on a daily basis from oil spills, everyday shipping and dumping. Secondly, it is very significant to know about dangers of water pollution. Virtually all types of water pollution are harmful to the health of humans and animals. Water pollution may not damage our health immediately but can be harmful after long term exposure. Such as the water pollution is global ecological problem we have to know what can we do to prevent this contamination and how to keep waters clean. There are many things we can do to help. We have to be careful about what we throw down our sink or toilet. We can't throw paints, oils or other forms of litter down the drain. By having more plants in our garden we are preventing fertiliser, pesticid...

Thatś what friends are for

That what friends are for Friend is a person who accepts you for who you are and not because what you have, a person who corrects you when you are wrong and shares with you your good moments, as well the bad ones. That's what friendship means. The purpose of my article is to describe my friendship. To begin with, friendship is not made overnight, it took years for us to become friends. We had known each other for over four years but then we did not socialize with each other. We started to interact more after fifth grade. Now we have been friends for seven years. Secondly, the best words to describe my friend are helpful, confident, cautious, patient, tolerant all the qualities that a friend should have. He listen me if I have complicated situations and supports me in every way when it is necessary. Lastly, I am glad that I have a friend in my life. We are not only friends at school but we see each other when we have free time. Then we j...

Diplomat

You have to be well educated. Knowledge in languages have to be high and you have to speak the language very well if not fluently. Everytime you change country, it is required to know basic things about it, like language, history, differences and so many other important things. In Estonia you can learn how to be a diplomat in Diplomatic School. It is very difficult to get in because every year they accept only around 30 students. You have to be flexible in your working hours because probably with the job you have to attend a lot of meetings or gatherings in the evenings. Conditions might be different depending on the country you are staying, like in America you'll probably have very good living environment, but if you have to compare it wiht Ukraine or Belarus then there are differences. Working in this field requires at least a degree from the university in any kind of subject that interests you. In my mind it would be better to get a degree in languages or in public relations, something that has anything to do with the work. It is good if the person who wants to become a diplomat is passionate about the work he or she will do, like travelling and communicating with other people, is open...

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Mari Tiirik, i-2 Oscar Wilde "The Picture of Dorian Gray" Basil Hallward is a taciturn and solitary artist, who finds his perfect motif in a young boy called Dorian Gray, who is the model for his oil painted masterpiece. Due to the fact that Dorian is very handsome, actually even heavenly beautiful young man, a friend of Basil, a cynical aristocrat Lord Henry Wotton (Harry) finds great intrest in Dorian. Lord Henry Wotton wants to buy the picture, and moreover, he wants to meet the boy in the picture himself. Unfortunately, Dorian is an innocent and a pure child, this is why Hallward doesn't find the idea of these two men meeting, because he is afraid that Dorian won't find his relationship with Basil intesting and exciting anymore. Basil fell in love with Dorian while painting his picture. Basil also treated him good, kept his self- esteem and spirit up by saying all the great things about him, of how good he looks and how much...

Houses of parliament

Most of the tourists think that Big Ben is the tower, but Big Ben is only a clock, which was built in 1858 to 1859. It is probably named, after Sir Benjamin Hall, the first Commissioner of Works. Big Ben is very heavy. It weights over 13 tons. The clock mechanism, alone, weights about 5 tons. The figures on the clock face are about 2 feet long. Charles Barry's design incorporated a clock tower. The dials were to be thirty feet in diameter, the quarter chimes were to be struck on eight bells, and the hours were to be struck on a 14 ton bell. Barry invited Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy, a clockmaker of reputation, to submit a design and price for constructing such a clock. No doubt Vulliamy was pleased to be the clockmaker of choice for what was then to be the largest clock in the world, but other enterprising firms were not happy with the manner in which they had no opportunity to compete for the contract. Subsequently, the Astronomer Royal, Sir George Airy, was appointed as referee for the new clock and produced a specification in 1846. A key requirement of the specification was that the clock was to strike the first blow of each hour correct to one second in time. Tenders were invited and were received from three makers, Dent, Vulliamy and Whitehurst. Dent was Airy' s favourite and soon he had to make the clock himself. In 1852 Dent was awarded the contract. There were many troubles during building the tower. The first of the difficulties occurred when it was discovered that the architect had failed to make the necessary provision for the clock in the tower. Edward John Dent died in 1853 and the clock mechanism was completed by his stepson Frederick Rippon (who changed his name to Frederick Dent). In 1854 the mec...

The leader of the parliamentary army, Oliver Cromwell, became "Lord Protector" of the republic. The monarchy was restored in 1660, after the death of Cromwell. In the 18th.century Britain expanded its empire in America, in Africa and India. Technological inventions led to the Industrial Revolution. Hundreds of thousands of people moved from rural areas into new towns and cities. London became an important business and trading centre. By the 19th century Britain was a powerful empire with its colonies in Canada, France, Australia, New Zealand, India and Africa. Tens of thousands people left Great Britain to settle in these colonies. Government The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as the head of state. The monarch of the UK also serves as head of state of fifteen other Commonwealth countries. The UK has a parliamentary government based on strong democratic traditions. The Parliament is the legislature of the United Kingdom; housed in the Palace of Westminster. The parliament is made up of the Queen and two houses: House of Commons, which is elected and House of Lords, which is appointed. Queen Victoria Victoria became the queen in 1837 when she was only 18 years old. She was queen for 64 years, the longest reign of any monarch. She reigned through a time of great change in Britain. 5 While she was the queen, Britain changed completely. Near the beginning of her reign the population was about 18 million people but by 1901 it was 30 million. By the end of her reign Britain had huge industrial cities, linked by railways. Tel...

Pride and Prejudice Book Report

The setting takes place in England, mostly in places called Hertfordshire, Derbyshire and Kent. The genre of the book is the novel of manners: it shows the conflicts between two individuals and also the love growing between them. The main themes are love, and it shows very precisely the development of young people's character and morality. The main characters are Elizabeth Bennet- main female protagonist. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy- main male protagonist. Mr. Bennet - Elizabeth's father. Mrs. Bennet - wife of Mr.Bennet and mother of Elizabeth and her sisters. Mr. Bingley- Darcy's friend, who becomes fond of Jane Summary of the plot: In Georgian England, Mrs. Bennet raises her five daughters - Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia with the purpose of getting them married with a rich husband that can support the family. They are not from the upper class, and their house in Hartfordshire will be inherited by a distant cousin if Mr. Bennet dies. When the wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley and his best friend Mr. Darcy arrive in town to spend the summer in a mansion nearby their property, the shy and beautiful Jane falls in love with Mr. Bingley. Lizzie finds Mr. Darcy an arrogant and proud man, and she swears to loathe him forever. This is the beginning of their wonderful love story. My opinion: I found the book quite interesting, not as good as I had expected or hoped, but still something different from the usual books I read. It is a cla...
