History of the USA.

History. For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. There lived only the native people, who had come from Siberia many thousand years ago by a land bridge. They had spread over the country, varying enormously from nomadic food gatherers to fishing societies. Then the Vikings visited Canada around AD 1000, but they did not stay. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America while trying to reach India. He named the native people Indians, because he though he had reached India. He didn't stay either and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. They didn't have good relations with the Indians and many of them died. But Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian chief, became their friend and helped them...

The USA

S.A) Geography The main part of the United states extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. It covers the middle of the North American continent. This area is called ,,the continental United states". The continental United States is bounded to the North by Canada and to the South by Mexico. The border with Canada is often called ,,the longest unguarded border in the world". The United States and Canada are good friends and they have very few problems in managing the border. The borded with Mexico is different. Immigrants are constantly crossing the border illegally. Every day about 2,000 of them are captured and sent back, but may others get through. There are also two states that are not connected to the continental United States. They are Alaska and Hawaii. There are two mountain ranges in...

Canada´s history

They crossed the Bering Strait from Siberia to Alaska. Some of those people followed the Yukon River and found their way south. Others followed the MacKenzie River which opened the way to the plains of the interior, and then travelled on to the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. The third group of people inhabited the Arctic regions. The first two groups were called Indians , the group that settled in the north were called Eskimos. These people are the only true native Canadians, the rest are new Canadians who have been transplanted from other parts of the world, especially from Europe. The first European visitors to North America were Norsemen who settled briefly in the 11th century. John Cabot, a Venetian seeking riches for England, made the next known voyage in 1...

Boston Tea Party

Boston Tea Party Henry Lemendik 8b About The Boston Tea Party was an act of direct action protest by the American colonists against the British Government in which they destroyed many crates of tea belonging to the British East India Company and dumped it into the Boston Harbor. The incident, which took place on December 16, 1773, was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution and remains an iconic event of American history. Background Europeans developed a taste for tea in the 17th century. When tea became popular in the British colonies in North America, Parliament sought to eliminate foreign competition by passing an act in 1721 that required colonists to import their tea only from Great Britain and the East India Company. The Navajo People

The Navajo Indians largely resides in New Mexico and Arizona. They originally began their tribes in the 1500's and are considered to be the largest tribe of all Native American Indians. The Navajo region focuses more on land then on people. According to Navajo beliefs land is holy and it is the Job of every man to protect and preserve it. The Navajo religion tells of a time when the Creator developed a sacred land between 4 mountains. It is said that the Creator gave the Navajo people the instructions to never go past these mountains. The Navajos have never stopped speaking their native Athabaskan language, unlike many other native peoples who are trying to revive their languages. The Navajo language is spoken only on the Navajo reservation in the southwestern United States, and until recently was an unwritten language. It is an...
