There are some things why it should be free and some reasons why it cannot be free. On the one hand, a lot of people think that art especially art galleries and exhibitions are boring and actually do not know anything about it. They think that it is pointless to pay for something boring, so if art exhibitions would be free, more people would visit them and learn to evaluate art.
