Finished topic- mass media

During the years, the importance of computers and internet has grown rapidly. Some people predict that this may mean the end of the printed word as a means of communication. The biggest advantage is that internet is the quickest way to do everyday activities, like reading the latest news, searching for information, listening to music, watching films and TV series and online shopping. One of the oldest type of entertainment is the theatre. It is a word taken from the Ancient Greeks. It means Seeing Place. A typical stage-play depends on 3 things: actions seen, words spoken and people watching and listening. The first theatres were built by the ancient Greeks. They were outdoors. There were no plays. Songs sung by a chorus told stories about gods. There were also dances. Today the interior of a modern theatre looks different. The two main parts of a modern theatre are the stage and the hall

Sydney Opera House (Sydney Ooperimaja)

It delivers outstanding acoustics derived from its high vaulted ceiling and white birch timber and brush box panelling. Extraordinary venues call for incredible performances, which is why the elegant Concert Hall is a natural home to the Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. It's also a prime location for screenings, spoken-word performances and large-scale events, the Sydney Festival being just one example. JOAN SUTHERLAND THEATRE is a proscenium arch lyric theatre with an orchestra pit. The traditional theatre seating is made of white birch timber with red woollen upholstery, and the stage boasts an impressive and extensive fly system and flexible staging, creating a state- of-the-art experience for performers, crews and audiences alike. Up to 70 musicians can be accommodated in the orchestra pit, which supports both intimate vocals and large-scale musical renditions

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

recognisable value-judgement core: it may be comprehensible either semantically or absolutely. We must not forget that all change and transition in Estonian symphonism, in whatever period, never dominated all the composers. Perseverance, poise and conservatism1 have shown, usually later than sooner, that all is not gold that glitters from afar, and chasing “fresh-isms” may prove to be a naïve and infantile stimulation. “Concrete” music, instrumental (absurdist) theatre, “happenings” – such affairs do not, in my opinion, illustrate an exceptional talent, but rather feebleness. One of the great absurdities seems to be the fusion of many antagonistic styles, methodologies and languages in one composition: all becomes equally hazy and flat. Remembering the beginning of the 1960s, when the “new wave” of Modernism had arrived on my doorstep, I have to note some points that are still relevant today.

The Most Important Buildings in Lai Street in Tallinn

in its rooms, but the street name remained in the form of Süsterstrasse and Cisternstrasse. It was not until the 18th century that the name Lai also started to appear. In 1872, when the street names were being fixed, Lai remained the sole name of the street. 4 1 Lai Street / 4 Nunne Street A good example of Neo-Renaissance and early Art Nouveau styles combined is Lai Street 1, the present Youth and Puppet Theatre, erected at the beginning of the 20th century as the Nobility Club. The three-storey building replaces two medieval properties. In 1784 an amateur theatre began playing in a house situated in the same place and soon became a professional German City Theatre. The famous German writer August von Kotzebue (1761-1819), the life and soul of the theatre, lived in Tallinn for several long periods. (Otto von Kotzebue, the son of August von Kotzebue, accompanied explorer Adam
