Commentary The opening pages of Sense and Sensibility are concerned with the laws of inheritance and succession that govern the fate of the Dashwood family property. According to the laws of male primogeniture effective in the mid-nineteenth century, estates went to the closest male descendant of the original owner. Sense and sensibility The story is about Elinor and Marianne, two daughters of Mr Dashwood by his second wife. They have a younger sister, Margaret, and an older half-brother named John. Bingley. Lizzie finds Mr. Darcy an arrogant and proud man, and she swears to loathe him forever. This is the beginning of their wonderful love story. My opinion: I found the book quite interesting, not as good as I had expected or hoped, but still something different from the usual books I read. It is a classical love story, how a man and a woman at first loath each other and later on fall in love. But it can be said that it is a quite women- dominating story, as it shows women having power, although little, but still- and how it was uncommon those days to praise women in literature. Women are desperate to find a man to marry, especially a rich man, then they submit to their husbands, if not they are off to find a new one. Most of the action happens at balls. It is depicted as dances were the center of social world. Dancing seemed to be the only way how women could meet men, which is very unreasonable in my opinion, but what can I do?

But hearing the gunshot, they soon gave up on their chase and went back to the house. The next morning the three sat telling the tale of the robbery to the cook and the maid. He tells them a bit about shooting Oliver, for which he was praised, but waits to tell the whole tale until after Dr. Losberne could attend.
