The Navajo People

The word Navajo comes from the phrase Tewa Navahu, meaning highly cultivated lands. The Navajo Indians largely resides in New Mexico and Arizona. They originally began their tribes in the 1500's and are considered to be the largest tribe of all Native American Indians. The Navajo region focuses more on land then on people. According to Navajo beliefs land is holy and it is the Job of every man to protect and preserve it. The Navajo religion tells of a time when the Creator developed a sacred land between 4 mountains. It is said that the Creator gave the Navajo people the instructions to never go past these mountains. The Navajos have never stopped speaking their native Athabaskan language, unlike many other native peoples who are trying to revive their languages. The Navajo language is spoken only on the Navajo reservation in the southwestern United States, and until recently was an unwritten language

pre-Christian cultures. Christianity gradually replaced the indigenous religion of the Saxons in England around the 7th and 8th centuries. Christianity was introduced into Northumbria and Mercia by monks from Ireland, but the Synod of Whitby settled the choice for Roman Christianity. As the new clerics became the chroniclers, the old religion was partially lost before it was recorded. Despite these prohibitions, numerous elements of the pre-Christian culture of the Anglo-Saxon people survived the Christianisation process. Dress materials Anglo-Saxon clothing usually utilized only three types of fabric. Wool was a coarse material which was used for most garments. Lower class people, such as slaves and poorer peasants could only use wool for their garments, even garments worn against the skin. Linen, harvested from the flax plant, was a finer material which was used for garments. Silk was an extremely

Indigenous people in australia

There is a great diversity among different Indigenous communities and societies in Australia, each with its own unique mixture of cultures, customs and languages. In present day Australia these groups are further divided into local communities. [infoplease] Language Before Europeans arrived in Australia, about 250 diverse Indigenous languages were spoken. Some of these are still spoken today but many have died out. In 2006, 55 695 or 11 per cent of Indigenous people spoke an Indigenous language at home. Indigenous languages were more likely to be spoken in the centre and north of Australia than in the southern cities. In the Northern Territory, for example, 54 per cent of Indigenous people spoke an Indigenous language at home. Spirituality Most Indigenous belief systems centre on the `Dreaming' or `Dreamtime' to explain life and the origin of the world. Introduction (slide 2) In this presentation I'd like to give a brief overview of clay bricks. I'll speak about 15min to allow time for questions at the end. Firstly clay bricks are known for centuries as one of the most solid and reliable structural elements is set to play a role in reducing global warming. Apart form the many benefits obtained from using clay bricks in construction, such as their durability, insulation properties and aesthetic qualities, recent findings show that they also produce less carbon emissions than any other masonry material. History (slide 3) In more detail the earliest bricks were dried bricks, meaning they were formed from clay- bearing earth or mud and dried usually in the sun until they were strong enough for use. The oldest discovered bricks, originally made from shaped mud and dating before 10000 BC, were found in Mesopotamia related to the first known cities. They have survived in the dry nd harsh desert regions of the Middle East, on their herds and by supplying the surplus meat and dairy products to the more urban communities.
