Cultural differences of experiencing hallucinations

This seems interesting because malicious hallucinations seem to me to be one of the worst symptoms of schizophrenia and if there is a possibility of making hallucinations easier to cope with without the use of antipsychotics then that seems like a possibility worth investigating. Antipsychotics are necessary for many patients but they also have many side effects and using them less would be preferable. Most of the literature focuses on schizophrenia and auditory hallucinations but other reasons for hallucinating and types of hallucinations are also included. Discussion One finding about cultural differences of hallucinations has to do with the rate of different hallucinations in certain disorders. Bauer et al. (2011) studied seven independent samples of schizophrenia patients from Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Georgia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Pakistan

Psühholoogia bioloogiline-, kognitiivne- ja sotsiaalne vaade

PSYCHOLOGY PART 1: CORE Biological level of analysis Outline principles that define the biological level of analysis. 1) Behavior can be innate, because it is genetically based. Evolution may play a key role in behavior. 2) Animals may be studied as a means of understanding human behavior. 3) There are biological correlates of behavior. Cognitions, emotions and behaviors are products of the anatomy and physiology of our nervous and endocrine system. Explain how principles of the biological level of analysis may be demonstrated in research. 1) Correlational studies: Study by Buss, who hypothesized that across cultures, men will prefer to marry younger women because of greater reproductive capacity and women will place greater value on a potential mate's earning potential to provide survival advantages. This evolutionary hypothesis was tested in 37 cultures by sending out questioners. 2) Twin studies (type of correlational stud

Home-reading'' The summoning''

Unfortunately it didn’t work and she ran out of the restroom while yelling. On the way down the stairs a couple of teachers tried to stop her but she fought them and because of that they gave her a sedative. After that she was sent to a group home for troubled kids called Lyle House. There she meets Liz, Tori, Rae, Derek, Simon and Peter. On the first session with a therapist, the nurse thought she had schizophrenia which causes hallucinations and paranoia. Once one of the boys heard that she might see ghosts, she was recommended and told to look up about necromancy but even when Derek helped her, they still didn’t get along. Searching about necromancy made Chloe doubt about the diagnosis the therapist gave her so she started looking for a way out of the Lyle House. Along the way Chloe learned that Simon is a sorcerer and Derek is a half-demon, werewolf

Addiction and drugs

your developing brain. Some movies and music make "stoner" culture seem cool, natural and like it's not a big deal. But if being fit and getting good grades are some of your goals, using marijuana can become a big deal, fast. Marijuana limits your brain's effectiveness, slows your thinking and impairs your coordination. A number of studies have also shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression and schizophrenia. You may hear people ask, "If it's dangerous, why do so many people have medical marijuana cards?" It's true that scientists have determined that the cannabis plant has the potential for addressing a range of medical conditions. But using marijuana at a young age can result in structural and functional deficits of the brain. This could cause you to develop weakened verbal and communication skills, lowered learning capabilities and a shortened attention span.

the large amount of negative effects on health. For example increased risk of liver diseases, cancer and pancreatitis. Furthermore psychiatric disorders which are associated with alcoholism include major depression, schizophrenia, suicide. Contrary to popular belief published studies have shown correlation between moderate alcohol use and health that may instead have been due to the beneficial effects of socialization that is often accompanied by alcohol consumption.
