Victorian age

· Periodization During the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) · Why is the Victorian Age compared to the Elizabethan Age? Both are associated with the reign of a very popular queen; Victorian age idealised the Elizabethan Age; many changes in different fields- economy, religion etc.; focusing more on people's attitudes, political developments etc; Victorian age was inspired by Elizabethan era; Britain became an empire · What were the most important changes in politics, religion and social life that occurred during the Victorian age? Politics: 1848 Chartist movement (voting right for the working class); women's suffrage movements; feminist outburst (wanted to have business openly; own property, voting etc.); world dominion (British empire); Economy: Industrialization; urbanization (people moved to towns no agriculture & food); laissez- faire economy new type, where government has no control over economy; booming economy- needed

Countering

7.2 Countering politely (through agreement followed by antithesis) Well yes, but if you visit it in June, it's extremely beautiful. Yes, but a serious astrologer would want to know a person's exact date of birth, not just their star sign. Yes, but remember that prisons are often schools for criminals. Yes, but we measure our superiority in different ways. Ours is cultural and historical. We believe we're more civilized. Yes, but it isn't that women don't want to work. For a start, they suffer more discrimination in the work-place. Yes, but other things happen in the world which aren't violent. 7.3 Countering politely (through partial agreement followed by antithesis) That may be so, but traditional costumes were made to be worn more than once. That may be true, but then you're inviting political conflict. Who is going to decide whether North American culture is superior to Chinese culture?

Philip Larkin poetry analysis

Philip Larkin poetry analysis For my poetry analysis paper I chose Philip Larkin's works, because he was the first British poet whose works I read. I think that his poems are interesting. They reveal much about Larkin's life and about the social issues in the 20th century. Larkin is also considered to be one of the greatest English poets in the 20th century. I think that Larkin was quite interested in politics. For example his poem ´´Talking in Bed´´ begins with the lines /Talking in bed ought to be easiest, Lying together there goes back so far/. At first it gives the reader an idea that he is talking about two lovers, but actually he is talking about England and USA. He describes the darkness that is creeping up. In my opinion he is talking about USA, which is beginning to creep up on England or on Europe. And because of that England is becoming a less dominant and more isolated place

Are men better directors than women ?

Name: Chlen Zhopov Subject: Essay Are men better directors than women ? It is common that top executives in big companies are mostly men. But does that necessarily mean that women are not suitable for such responsible, effort and leadership demanding jobs? I do not think so. First of all, I would like to say that this tradition is coming not only from history, but from evolution. In nature, masculine representatives of most species are stronger, more agile and aggressive than feminine representatives, because their biological function is to be the main breadwinners and defenders of their families, while females' main functions are to distribute that

Coca-Cola roll rahvusvahelises majanduspoliitikas

to people in every region of the world and that in general boosts the economy of the world. Last year 61 thousand people (a huge downgrade from 2012 when 150 thousand people worked for the company) worked for Coca-Cola Company and created a revenue of 35 billion U.S dollars worldwide when the Estonian state budget for 2018 is only 10,58 billion euros (Statista). Other than generating jobs and money Coca-Cola Company has a huge role in politics as well because they have a lot of money and with lot of money comes a lot of power to do and change things. For example they try to promote economic growth and decent work for everybody including women, men, young people and persons with disabilities and equal pay for equal work value. They are committed to enable the economic empowerment of 5 million women across its global value chain by 2020 (Business for 2030). This is a very problematic

Gender equality in higher positions of companies

Many high-level positions in companies are filled by men even though the workforce in many developed countries is more than 50 percent female. Companies should be required to allocate a certain percentage of these positions to women. To what extent do you agree? In the 21st century it is all about gender equality and every individual wants to achieve high level position in their work place. In the past, women, in many societies, had less rights and privileges than men. The statement says that companies should give a certain number of higher positions to women. However, I do not agree with this requirement completely. Giving a certain percent of higher positions to women certainly is an easy solution but in my opinion it will bring even more sexism. It shows that women are somehow weaker, fragile and need help for everything
