HOUSE AND HOME tööleht

Huge increase in house prices have placed additional pressure on the renting sector as young people simply cannot afford to buy. In any case, flats are generally not very popular with the British, especially compared to the rest of Europe, though they are acceptable to many people in the centre of big cities. People prefer housing in the suburbs, and a garden of any size is considered essential. There is a growing tendency to move away from the hustle and noise of big cities, and large areas in the countryside are now being swallowed up by ‘urban sprawl’. The saying ‘An Englishman’s home is his castle’ is well-known and it illustrates the desire for privacy. A large detached house not only ensures privacy, it is also a status symbol. When surrounded by garden, it gives the required feeling of rural life. Many Londoners, if they can afford it, move to expensive riverside apartment blocks, which continue to

Steve Krug-Dont Make Me Think 2014

toaststrapped to its back CHAPTER 13Guide for the perplexed Making usability happen where you live AcknowledgmentsI ndex Preface: About this edition People come and go so quicklyhere! —DOROTHYGALE(JUDYGARLAND)INTHEWIZARDOFOZ(1939) I wrote the first edition ofDon’t Make Me Thinkback in 2000. By 2002, I began to get a few emails a year from readers asking (very politely) if I’d thought about updating it. Not complaining; just trying to be helpful. “A lot of the examples are out of date” was the usual comment. My standard response was to point out that since I wrote it right around the time the Internet bubble burst, many of the sites I used as examples had already disappeared by the time it was published. But I didn’t think that made the examples any less clear.

Dear listeners, most of us here today are soon going to make the biggest and most important step of our lives so far. We are going to start a completely new and different life after graduation. The emphasis therefore should be on the word "life". The real thing, it's coming, it's going to hit us and it's going to hit us hard. Nothing is going to be the same. Life will never ever be as simple, carefree and easygoing again. To me, the expression "life is hard" has never meant anything. I have always been more of a "life is beautiful"-type. I have never really thought that it actually is hard. Mostly because I have never thought what the real life is like. Ofcourse I have seen it, it's all around me, but only seeing and seeing plus thinking through what you see are two really different things.

FAMILY tööleht

when parents wanted to protect their property); or as a union between two unborn (ditto); or as a union between two people of the same social class (once more in Europe, where medieval peasants were forbidden by law to marry their betters, in order to keep social divisions clean). In China, the definition of marriage once included a sacred union between a living woman and a dead man. It was called a ghost marriage. A young girl of high rank would be married off to a dead man from a good family in order to seal the bonds of unity between two clans. Thankfully, no sex was involved. Some Chinese women considered this custom as an ideal social arrangement. During the 19 th century, a surprising number of women in the Shanghai region worked as merchants in the silk trade, being very successful businesswomen. Trying to get even more economic independence, such women preferred a ghost marriage to living husbands.
