England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom.It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west ; the Irish sea is to the north west, theCeltic sea to the south west and the North Sea to the east , with the English Channel to the south separating it from continental Europe . The mainland of England consists of the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain in the North Atlantic but England also includes over 100 small isl such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isles of weight.The area now called England has been settled by people of various cultures for about 35,000 years , but it takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries . England became a unified state in AD 927, and since the Age of Discovery , which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world.
The Kingdom of Englan which after 1284 included Wales was a sovereign state until 1.May 1707, when the Acts of Union put into effect the terms agreed in the Treaty of Union the previous year , resulting in a political union with the Kingtdom of Great Britain to create the new Kingdom of Great Britain 1800. The name "England" is derived from the Old English word Englaland, which means "land of the Angeles ". The capital of Englan is London , The head of state is Queen Elisabeth II and the prime minister is Gordon Brown. English Heritage is a governmental body with a broad remit of managing the historic sites, artefacts and environments of England. London Bridge is a bridge between the City of London and Southwark in London , England, over the River Thames. Situated between Cannon Street Railway Bridge and Tower Bridge , it forms the western end of the Pool of London . On the south side of the bridge are Soutwark Cathedral and London Bridge station on the north side are the Moment to the Grea Fire of London and Monument tube station. The Merlin Entertainments London Eye ( known more simply as The London Eye, and also known as the Millennium Wheel ), at a height of 135metres (443ft), is the largest Ferris wheel in Europe, and has become the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom visited by over three million people in one year. At the time it was erected, in 1999, it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, until it was surpassed by the Star of Nanchang (160 m) in May 2006, and then the Singapore River (165 m) on 11 February 2008. However , it is still described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel" (as the entire structure is supported by an A-Frame on one side only).
The London Eye is located at the western end of Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank of the River Thames in London, England between Westminister Bridge and Hungerford Bridge The site is adjacent to that of the former Dome of Discovery which was built for the Festifal of Britain in 1951.

London History The Romans AD 43- AD 410 The Romans finally invaded Britain in AD 43 from Kent. The Romans lead by Julius Caesar attempted to invade Britain twice before that in 55 and 54 BC but the invasions were unsuccessful. They made their way to the river Thames and sailed up it. The Romans knew it was important to control a crossing point at the river Thames, so they decided to build a settlement on the north bank. Although small settlements had been built on the banks of the Thames, the Romans were the ones who built the first city. They called their city Londinium. The Roman engineers noticed that the point where the swampy river narrowed would make an ideal crossing point, they built London Bridge. Less than 20 years later the native Iceni tribe, led by Queen Boudicca, rose up against the Romans in revenge for mistreatment and burnt Londinium to the ground.
