It is a story told by a horse, in his own words. It's about how he was treated and taught when he was a young and healthy horse and how he fell into illness and was treated badly. The Black Beauty didn't remember everything when he was small, but he remembered some very important advice from his mother. She told him that the better he behaved, the better was he treated and he always had to do best of him to his master. One day a man took him with him to the Birtwick Park. There lived other horses and the Beauty became friends with the others. The Black Beauty was a good horse and everyone loved him. One morning a master Gordon had to go to the city with Beauty. Anna Sewell (1820-1878) wrote only one novel during her lifetime, a book describing the life of a beautiful, black horse, Black Beauty. Sewell was very concerned about animals and used the book to write about the terrible treatment of horses in England at the time. The book is written from the point of view of the horse, which helps us to understand the influence that good and bad treatment had on the horses in the story. Black Beauty spent his early years in a picturesque, green field with his mother and some other young colts. When it was time for him to be trained to serve men, he was gently and patiently broken in by his master. He learned to wear a saddle and bridle, and carry a human quietly on his back. Black Beauty learnt about the way horses can suffer because of men very early in life. He witnessed a hunting expedition in which a horse was pushed too hard and fast by an inexperienced and overconfident rider

In 1337 Edward III declared war on France, claiming the crown. The real reasons were economical. The war was later called the Hundred Years War. It ended in 1453. At firs the English were successful. By the treaty of Bretigny in 1360 Edward III gave up his claim to the French throne. He had re-established his control & captured a huge quantity of treasure. It is surprising that people never rebelled against Ed III. He was an expensive king. Ed III & his eldest son, the Black Prince, were greatly admired for their courage on the battlefield & their courtly manners. They became symbols of the ,,code of chivalry", the way in which a perfect king should behave. According to it the perfect king fought for his good name if insulted, served God & the king & defended any lady in need. Ed III introduced the idea of chivalry into his court. Author and Young Friend are sincere friend until a woman appears. The author is aware of fact that his beloved Lady is not true to him and he can't trust his friend either.
