o'clock. For many people lunch is a quick meal. Office workers usually go to a cafe at this time. They take fish, poultry or cold meat (beef, mutton, veal and ham), boiled or fried potatoes and all sorts of salad. They may have a mutton chop or steak and chips, followed by biscuits and a cup of coffee. Some people like a glass of light beer with lunch. Pubs also serve good, cheap food. School children can have a hot meal at school. Some of them just bring a snack from home. Tea is very popular among the English; it may almost be called their national drink. Tea is welcome in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening. The English like it strong and fresh made. The English put one tea-spoonful of tea for each person. Tea means two things. It is a drink and a meal. Some people have afternoon tea, so called «high tea» with sandwiches, tomatoes and salad, a tin of apricots, pears or pineapples and cakes, and, of course a cup of tea. Film Studies - The Black Dahlia

How genre and narrative makes meaning in ``The Black Dahlia`` When analyzing a film, people understand the movie is much more complicated than it seems. To make a difference, to give a meaning to the film, film-makers have used different visual and thematic features. There are macro features (genre, narrative) as well as micro features (mise en scene, cinematography) and they are linked together in many ways. I have chosen to analyse the closing sequence of ``The Black Dahlia``, directed by Brian de Palma, and I will focus on macro features in this essay. Brian de Palma is well known director, who is focused on noir area through his career

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Word of these new amazing weapons quickly spread around the world and soon rockets were being used in military operations in North Africa and Europe. During the 15 th and 16th centuries they were widely used in naval battles to set fire on enemy ships. Around this time they also started being used for more peaceful purposes again. In the 16th and 17th century Europe fireworks displays using rockets became a very popular form of public entertainment. In the late 18th century the British army suffered two serious defeats at battles in Seringapatam, in India. The main reason for these defeats was that the Indian prince, Haidar Ali's army included a corps of rocket throwers. They used very large bamboo rockets which had a range of hundreds of metres. The British were determined to learn from their mistakes and a British officer, William Congrieve, began work on developing even bigger and better rockets

"Ender's game"

The focus of activity here is in the simulation rooms, where, it turns out, Ender is actually commanding the real fleets. When he leaves Eros, it is not for Earth, but for the first human colony, on a former bugger world, which will become known as Ender's World. While looking for a location for another group of colonists, Ender discovers a landscape mimicking that in the fantasy game he played at Battle School. The setting here is used by the buggers to communicate with Ender and lead him to the discovery of their hive queen. Main Characters Ender Ender is a small boy, only six years old when the novel begins, and eleven old when he defeats the buggers. He is undersized for his age and so he was bullied a lot. narration includes many uncommon words and a slang called Nadsat, which are apparently common to the speech of the youth subculture in the novel. MAIN CHARACTERS Alex is a protagonist. Alex is very easily irritable and very violent, for example he is very fond of opera and classical music but his friend Dim mocks it. Alex gets furious and punches Dim. He is also very arrogant even his gang members think so. The only thing that Alex values is violence and power. He thinks that Devil is inside him and explains that way his violent acts. He is from a good family and enjoys the power he has over his close ones. He has no empathy for his victims that mean he is very cruel. There are two things that Alex enjoys: blood and classical music. IS THE PORTRAYAL OF THE CHARACTERS BELIEVABLE? WHY/NOT? While reading the book, it seems very real, because characters are very well described. But for real life are these characters too unbelievable.

Education

Education Education is so multifaceted that it is difficult for me to know where to begin discussing it, or how to prioritize the many factors. Relaying my own experience is easy: I had a standard classroom approach, supplemented by inordinate reading. In only the briefest and least memorable instances did I receive any individual tutoring. Education is commonly thought of as the job of schools. Adults cry "educate our children!" Everyone has opinions about the best way to do the job. It is of urgent importance, and all the numerous factors are much studied, debated, and new (or old) ideas continually tested or retested. Some people say "it's as simple as . . . " and then name their pet peeve or passion. My view is not of an education specialist, but of one who loves sharing what I learn, and owes much to educators

) Chronologically the second language I started to learn was French. That was because of the Descartes Lyceum. Don't remember much of that, except for half a dozen badly spelt childrens' songs. Alouette is a really cruel song about tearing different body parts off a lark just to teach kids the names of those parts (and they are not even lark but human parts). I remember one of our young teachers used to play guitar in class and sing for us. That was really cool. Unfortunately we moved and my French studies took a long break, until my one but final school, but there I met a teacher who was anything but good at French, and not only because she was actually a German philologist. She was just plain stupid and envious of my pronounciation. She said so herself. So how much do I know French? Just enough to sing a few songs, understand some simple written text and say a few sentences

Edulugude võistlus

I rememember clearly that the first prize that I got for an essay was a backpack and the first journey that I won was to Brussels. To this day, thanks to these competitions, I have had the chance to visit about ten foreign countries and many of them even twice. Herewith I just want to say that nothing is impossible. The main thing is the desire to gain something. When you have found a goal, then you just have to start working for it! Big city schools have always been preferred to small schools. Even so, it is unfair to say that schools which are situated in big towns are giving better education than the ones in small towns. Mostly, examination results are being compared, when making this kind of statistics. I truly believe that the only difference between schools is that some institutions just give better conditions for students. At the moment I am studying in Hugo Treffner Gymnasium and this school is highly valued in our country

Challenges of childrens participation A Case Study of active citizenship in Cadle Primary School

One of the primary goals in both authorities is to work towards the adoption of the UNCRC in every school in Wales and Swansea as they recognise the positive impact rights based education may have upon young people`s emotional, social and academic development. The central theme of this dissertation rests on the commitment of the Cadle Primary School towards children`s right to participation as underpinned in the Article 12 of the UNCRC. The Cadle Primary School is one of the first schools in Swansea to adopt the UNCRC through the Rights Respecting School programme (RRSA). The RRSA school initiative is developed by the UNICEF UK, which encourages the schools to place the UNCRC `at the heart of its ethos and curriculum across all areas of the school`. 7 Thereupon, the primary goal is to critically explore the spaces the Cadle has created for children that allow them to actively to engage with meaningful discussions on the matters that concern them. The Cadle Primary School was

But the latter mentioned fact is an advantage for us teachers as well. It gives us an opportunity to provide our students to experience success. They can help and assist us if we need some technological help. Another thing is that in schools, in classes generally students are not allowed to use their appliances, so it means they have to communicate verbally as well. A further factor is that this dysfunction is actually intensifying and accelerating. The First World War broke out in 1914. Destructive and cruel wars, motivated by fear, greed, and the desire for power, had been common occurrences throughout human history, as had slavery, torture, and widespread violence inflicted for religious and ideological reasons. Humans suffered more at the hands of each other than through natural disasters. By the year 1914, however, the highly intelligent human mind had invented not only the internal combustion engine, but also bombs, machine guns, submarines, flame throwers, and poison gas. Intelligence in the service of madness! In static trench warfare in France and Belgium, millions of men perished to gain a few miles of mud. When the war was over in 1918, the

Fight Club - Book review

BOOK REPORT Title of the book: Fight Club Author (name and some general information): Chuck Palahniuk is an American novelist born February 21, 1962 in Washington, USA. He is best known as the author for the novel Fight Club (1996), which was made into a movie in 1999. Palahniuk began writing fiction in his mid-thirties. When he attempted to publish his novel, Invisible Monsters, publishers rejected it for its disturbing content. This led him to work on Fight Club which he wrote as an attempt to disturb the publisher even more for rejecting him. After initially publishing it as a short story in the 1995 compilation, Pursuit of Happiness, Palahniuk expanded it into a full novel, which --contrary to his expectations--the publisher was willing to publish. Some other well-known novels: Rant, Choke, Diary. Analysis of the book 1. Setting The story takes place in somewhere between 1980s and 1990s in the United States. 2. Characters

Estuary English - A Controversial Issue?

city quite a long way from the Thames Estuary has many of the features claimed for EE". Further, Crystal (1995) calls `Estuary English' "something of a misnomer, for the influence of London speech has for sometime been evident well beyond the Thames estuary, notably in the Oxford-Cambridge-London triangle (p.50) and in the area to the south and east of London as far as the coast." Moore (p.c.), UK coordinator of the European Network of Innovative 10 Schools, best describes the drawbacks of the term `EE': The name is neither helpful nor accurate. Because of a superficial resemblance of some features to the speech sounds of the south-east of England, it has been named for the Thames estuary. But there is no evidence that it really originates there - and is probably far more geographically diverse in its origins. The description is also stupid, since it omits the name of the river - as if the Thames were the only river with an estuary
