An Invention

Dear classmates, I'm going to talk about a mobile phone invention Mobile phones have brought about a dramatic change to the communication industry. The development of mobile phones has made long-distance communication a matter of seconds. The mobile phone was invented in 1973 by Dr. Martin Cooper, a Motorola employee. On April 3, 1973, the first cell phone call was made. The caller was naturally, Dr. Cooper himself. Prior to the development of mobile phones, people used two-way radios to communicate while they were mobile. The idea behind two-way radios gave rise to the invention of mobile phones. During the 1940s, Motorola came up with the Walkie-Talkie followed by handheld two-way radios that operated on battery power. In 1947, Douglas Ring and W. Rae Young at Bell Labs introduced the idea of hexagonal cells for mobile phones. Ericsson came up with an automatic mobile phone system, which was released in Sweden in 1956. The drawback ...

The invention of telephone

The invention of telephone The telephone is one of the greatest inventions in history. Early telephones were nothing like the ones we have today. Telephone is the Greek word for "far sound." Before the invention of telephone, people used fax, postal letters and birds to communicate. Alexander Graham Bell was an eminent scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who intented the first telephone. His mother and his wife were both deaf and that was the main reason which caused his interest to hearing devices. Bell invented the telephone by accident when he was trying to invent a device that could send more than one telegram at the same time. His research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices which eventually culminated with the telephone in 1876. The first telephone didn't have a bell, so the caller had to tap the phone with a hammer to let the receiver know a call ...

The invention of the car changed the world

The invention of the car changed the world. World is used to move unstoppably. How many of us can possibly imagine our everyday life without cars in it? We´d find it to be rather difficult. Probably the fact would blow up our day schedules and most of the plans that are made. In the olden days, a car was a poduct which was ment to be only for the rich ones. To the contrary, nowadays cars are very easily available for everyone (!).Speaking of which, it´s not much to mention that one extremely wierd and sad occasion would be that some people take advantage of haveing a car and tend to take up too high speeds for showing how tough fellows they are. Often boasting like this can cause big devastations, meaning accidents and all kinds of fines, not mentioning times, when a driver might be under influence of the alcohol, which is definitely the worst possibility of all. But that´s the world we live in ...

The most important technological invention

The most important technological invention In my mind, the most important technological invention is the jet airliner, the Boeing 707- 120, which was invented in 1958. I concidered different inventions but thought, that the ability to move from one point to another in an innoventional and extremely quick way is worth the title. The four engine plane can carry up to 181 passengers and cruise at 600 mph for 5280 miles on a full tank. This has made continetial travelling extremely comfortable, as voyages that formerly took a couple of weeks can now be passed with only 1 day or even less. The first jet flight took off from New York and landed in Paris, soon after that there was a connection between Los Angeles and New York. I can only assume that the tickets had to cost a fortune in the beginning, but the time spared was and is still worth it, as the plane tickets do not even cost so much nowadays, it is perhaps the cheapest and the fast...

The invention of the telephone inglise keel

The invention of the telephone The invention of the telephone is the culmination of work done by many individuals. The presumption for the development of the telephone goes back to the year 1833 were Carl Friedrich Gauss and Wilhelm Eduard Weber invented the electric transmission of signals in Göttingen which set the fundamental basis for the technology. This invention is recognized to be the first electromagnetic telegraph of the world. (The development of the modern telephone involved an array of lawsuits founded upon the patent claims of several individuals.) Some of the inventors who gave their contribution for inventing the telephone are: Innocenzo Manzetti - Innocenzo Manzetti considered the idea of a telephone as early as 1844, and may have made one in 1864. He is considered by many Italians as the inventor of the telephone. Johann Philipp Reis - In 1860 Reis was the first who produced a functioning electromagnetic device that...

Books have been around for a couple hunder years for now, but there aren't any remains left of the first ever books because of the rarity when the first book was realased. First books ever were written by hand and that's the reason why there were so few of them. Thanks to the invention of the printing press books became more common and accesable for everyday people. After that came the printer but the next big step up was the invention of the e-books and portable screens that could almost outweigh regular books in every aspect possible. But nothing is perfect in this world so naturaly e-books and tablets have their weaknesses, for example, battery life and portability are the main concerns when deciding to rely on them. Regular books are quite rugged, few bumps and bruses aren't going to make it unreadable, but when u drop your tablet then there's a good chance that it will break and you're going to have to pay quite a lot of mon...

Thomas P. Hughes (1992) The Dynamics of Technological Change: Salients, Critical Problems and Industrial Revolution

Thomas P. Hughes artikli The Dynamics of Technological Change: Salients, Critical Problems and Industrial Revolution kokkuvõte. Hughes’i artikkel võtab kokku ning näitlikustab uusi viise kuidas 19. sajandi lõpul ning 20. sajandi algul toimunud tehnoloogilisi arenguid ja leiutisi vaadelda. Salient on ootuspärased ennustused tulevikuks, tulevikus esiletõusvad asjad. Reverse salient - vasturääkiv kontseptsioon, viitab eesolevale osale, mis jääb maha. Tehnoloogilise süsteemi osad, mida saame pidada esiletõusvateks (salients), on selle süsteemi teistest komponentidest efektiivsemad, ökonoomsemad, või näitavad teiste komponentide mahajäämust mingil muul moel. Reverse salient tekib tehnoloogilise süsteemi ebaühtlasest arengust, näiteks kui arendati välja efektiivsed sisepõlemismootorid, ilmnes kütuse madala kvaliteedi probleem. Eestis võib tuua analoogse probleemi näite elektriautode jõudmisest Eestisse, kui olid küll elektriautod, kuid...

Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies

Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies Family drives with a car, husband turns the car looking at the GPS directions to home. Wife shares pictures to Instagram with her iPhone and in the backseat girl is playing with her iPad and boy reads on his kindle. This is normal nowadays, because technolgy has been improved for example people can now communicate with each other much faster. It is great, although it can also harm people. Technology is serious responsibility- if people do not use an invention carefully, then it would end up the wrong way. The word „Leisure“ meaning changes in every 10 to 20 years. 50 years ago spare time was usually considered as that part of a day when people took a nap or children played with each other. Nowadays technological tools are killing off leisure time, especially for younger workers and students, who are working longer hours, taking fewer and shorter vacations but still bringing their...

soft reflector

Story about Invention the Soft reflector Maria Kesvatera I'm going to write about soft reflector (cat's eye). The woman who invented it was Estonian girl Karoli Hindriks. She invented soft reflector when she was 16 year old and studied in school. She got the idea to make soft reflector when she noticed little hairy toy hanging in her school bag. She thought that it would be great when these toy could sparkle. She also thougt that regular plastic reflectors were very boring. In 1999 created Karoli Hindriks student company to produce soft reflectors. I think that it is very good to have soft and beautiful reflectors because then people like to wear reflectors more and car drivers can see them better.

The computer has greatly improved our lives today

The computer has greatly improved our lives today Nowadays, computers are a big part of our lives and they have made pretty much everything simpler and more entertaining. On the other hand, the misuse of them can be extremely dangerous. On the positive side, computers are great tools for school and different jobs. Using the Internet it is possible to communicate with each other and access to information faster. Another advantage is that almost the whole world has access to those technological inventions, so if someone lives in Australia, it is surprisingly easy for them to find a friend from Europe. On the negative side, there are lots of hackers who can damage big companies or leak personal information. In addition to this, people spend too much time in front of computer screens and that causes visual illness, sickness, stress, muscular pains, etc. Furthermore, there is a lot of trash on the Internet, f...

There are lots of inventions being made to spare our time and make our lives easier. The invention I am going to talk about is an internet, which I find is one of the most important contraptions. However, the opinions about the computer network are very opposed. The first advantage is that internet is very easy and quick to use. Whereas uploading news to the computer network is very fast, is the internet better than TV shows or radio. Secondly is an internet the biggest infomation resource, where you can find almost anything you need. The third point is wide opportunity of communicating with other people. For instance you may use different programs such as skype or MSN Messenger. Nonetheless has the internet many disadvantages too. Namely has the computer network so many different distractions, such as games, chatting, music or movies that many people spend all their spare time sitting in front of computer. R&B There are many types of music in the world but the one that stands out in my mind is the sound of Rhythm and Blues, known as R&B. It has been around for many decades and has captured people's interest around the world. (But) what is the magic of this genre? Rhythm and Blues(R&B), or as it was called before "black music", started in the early 1940's by slaves in the south. This phenomenon brought about new music, fashion, and dance styles. The white people thought of R&B as black music during the 1940's and early 50's. It has the single greatest influence on music worldwide for most of the 20th century. Its influence can be traced in forms of rock music, country, gospel, jazz even Nigerian Juju -a style of dance music. So it included many different musicstyles and because of that it likes many different humangroups. Rhythm and Blues was started in the South, but later moved to Midwest, Northeast, and West Coast cities due to th...

Schools should provide computers for every student In recent times, captious opinion has appeared referring the use of computers by adolescents and children in education at the primary and high school levels. Internet has become an essential tool for many students. A lot of students like doing researches on their own computers at home, while doing homework or discovering something new for themselves. High school students are often asked to write different essays, letters of reviews on topics they have been studying at school. In addition not all of them have time to deal with homework at home. So if school gave them computers, they could use their free time during breaks to do essential things for their education. Or if school allowed to take computers with them, some people could study even while travelling home. Philosophy today

Philosophy Today The Great Divide Most contemporary philosophers follow one of two approaches "Continental" philosophy "Analytic" philosophy Continental philosophy is more influential on the European continent Analytic philosophy is predominant in the major research universities in the English-speaking world Analytic Philosophy Analytic philosophy developed from attempts in the early 20th century to make our concepts precise. The model of this procedure was science. Emphasis in contemporary analytic philosophy is on language and meaning, and meaning is understood as a relation between language and objective reality. Thus, understanding the structure of language is what reveals the structure of reality. Continental Philosophy At the same time that analytic philosophy was emerging, E. Husserl was developing his "phenomenological" approach...

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons

Speech: Ideas are our greatest weapons Hello class and classmates, I would like to open up my speech with a quote that I find really amazing: „The pen is mightier than the sword”. Sadly I don't know whose it is, but it means, that not every war has to be fought with swords and weapons, coming up with an idea about something that isn't violent might be a lot easier way to conquer in life. I think that all of you know that every tool, weapon, Everything that surrounds us, has started with an idea. That shouldn't be new for you. Some people might find it hard to believe, but even the most common things- like chairs, walls, even a pack of bread has been an idea once. Someone had probably felt that his or her legs got tired and sitting on floor might not be so comfortable, so one chose to invent a chair. Think of it- even floor, where people used to sit before chairs were invented is certainly someone's idea and invention. Isn't it strange...

Speech: The challenges of the 21st century

Speech The Challenges of the 21st century In one math lesson I found out that I needed to use a calculator only because one of the simplest operation. I told about that to my friend and she had also recognized that her math skills have reverted. A century ago nobody knew technical instruments such as calculator or computer. People calculated by themselves, the letters were sent by post and people had more time to spend with family than nowadays, because now the majority of us are spending time on the Internet. So is the development of technique our fortune or accident? Of course the technique makes our lives easier. New agricultural machines are able to do more work than we. Planes and ships enable us to discover foreign countries thousands of miles away and broaden the mind. Moreover we have a chance to find interesting and educating information from computer, but with what price? All these robots and facilities prevent us from t...

Jazz referaat

Džäss ehk džässmuusika (ka jazz-muusika, inglise keeles jazz) on muusikastiil, mis tekkis 19. sajandi lõpus USA lõunaosariikides Aafrika ja Euroopa rahvamuusika ristumise tagajärjel. Džäss kasvas välja USA neegrite töölauludest, bluusist ja spirituaalidest. Varasemaks väljendusvormiks on peetud ragtime'i. Ajalugu: 1890-1910 Džässi ajaloo alguseks peetakse 19. sajandi algust, sest just siis loodi džässi eelkäija Ragtime. Kuulsaimad ragtime'i-lood on kirjutanud Irving Berlin (1888– 1989), Ben Harney (1872–1932) ja Scott Joplin (1868–1917). 20. sajandi...

Kuressaare castle

Kuressaare Castle The convent building of Kuressaare castle is the only medieval fortification in the Baltic States that has not undergone considerable alterations and due to that is an internationally important architectural monument. This castle is built of limestone. The roof is made of red stone. The construction of the stronghold was closely connected with the Estonians fight against the German feudals. The first documented data about Kuressaare castle originate only from 1380s. Kuressaare castle remained the residence for the bishops of Saare-Lääne Bishopric until the beginning of the Livonian War. At the end of the XIV and the beginning of the XV century the castle was surrounded by a new mighty 625 m long and 7 m high belt of walls, erected around the old belt of walls dating from the XIII century. The necessity to improve the defence of the castle was due to the invention and usage of firearms. The old parts of the walls ...

James Watt

TOPIC 3 James Watt James Watt was born in Scotland. James was a delicate boy and often suffered from severe headaches. That is why he could not go to school at the age when other children did. His mother taught him to read and his father taught him writing and arithmetic. He had a very good memory and a natural love of work. When his father saw that the boy liked to do things with his hands he brought him some tools from his workshop. For hours James would take his toys to pieces and the built new things from the parts to his own design. One day James noticed that, when the water in the kettle was boiling, the power of the steam moved the lid up and down, and when he held a cold spoon over the steam, it quickly turned back into drops of water. James was sent to a private school. He became good at languages as well as mathematics. In his spare time he began to make experiments. He managed to persuade an instrument-maker to take him as a...

Public Administration and Innovation

Preparing for exam. Focus areas Defining innovation ● “An innovation is an idea, practice, or object that is perceived as new by an individual or other unit of adoption.” (Rogers 1952) ● CIS survey: “Product innovations must be new to your enterprise, but they do not need to be new to your market”. ● “Companies achieve competitive advantage through acts of innovation. They approach innovation in its broadest sense, including both new technologies and new ways of doing things” – (Porter 1990) ● “An innovative business is one which lives and breathes “outside the box”. Nali: The World According to Student Bloopers

25/11/2012 22:54 The World According to Student Bloopers Richard Lederer St. Paul's School One of the fringe benefits of being an English or History teacher is receiving the occasional jewel of a student blooper in an essay. I have pasted together the following "history" of the world from certifiably genuine student bloopers collected by teachers throughout the United States, from eight grade through college level. Read carefully, and you will learn a lot. The inhabitants of Egypt were called mummies. They lived in the Sarah Dessert and traveled by Camelot. The climate of the Sarah is such that the inhabitants have to live elsewhere, so certain areas of the dessert are cul- tivated by irritation. The Egyptians built the Pyramids in the shape of a huge triangular cube. The Pramids are a range of mountains between France and Spain. The Bible is full of interesting caricatures. In the first book of the Bible, Guinesses, Adam a...

The social network

The Social Network review To begin with, I would like to prove the fact that if Facebook would be a country, then it would be the 3rd largest in the world. When I wake up in the morning I do things in a definite order. Logging in to Facebook is one of those things I do in those mornings when I have some extra time. So do many of us. If we could, we would spend hours on the world's most popular social network. But at many academic institutions and office networks Facebook has been blocked to guarantee the irrelevancy. We try to deny the importance of the site but without success. It has changed our culture in many ways, making it so modernized that some of us cannot handle it. I am quite positive, that before the movie, people did not really know the basic story of how Facebook was invented. But by now, we have searched the internet, watched the magnificent movie and bought books titled similarly and can tell many interesting facts ab...

Pessimism vs optimism

Pessimism vs. Optimism Different approaches to the ‘population-resources’ debate Malthus Task: View figure 13.57 (page 378 of Waugh). Draw the graph and discuss. Malthus believed that there was a finite optimum population in relation to food supply and that an increase beyond that point would lead to a decline in living standards and to war, famine and disease.  An increase in the population above the optimum limit would therefore lead to war, famine and disease. A PESSIMISTIC approach  Thomas Malthus (1798) proposed his work during the early stages of the industrial revolution when inadequate food and clothing were common features in England.  His argument was that population increases (geometrically) or at an exponential rate if unchecked i.e. 1-2-4-8- 16-32 etc  Food supply at best increases at an arithmetic rate i.e.1-2-3-4-5-6 etc ...
