Seven days It was three o'clock in the morning when the phone rang. I was still sleepy when I answered with a furious tone: ,,What is it? Do you even know what freaking time is it? It's 3 in the morning. Why aren't you sleeping?" Suddenly I heard a voice that told me: ,,Seven days!" and after that just beep beep beep. At first I thought it's just some stupid joke but I got frightened and I couldn't even get any sleep. I creeped downstairs looking after my shoulder from time to time because I had this feeling someone was watching me and when I looked after the window I saw someone standing in the dark alley. That seriously creeped me out! I suddenly remembered that creepy movie called ,,The Ring". In the film the person who watched the film got murdered in seven days and they receieved exactly the same phone call as I did. The whole week, I got barely any sleep. I had been like that ...
Tartu Hanseatic Days Tartu Hanseatic Days are celebrated every year from 17th to 19th July. For three days the Old Town of Tartu is filled with Hanseatic merchants and different workshops. People dress up in different medieval clothes and have a great time. The Hanseatic days are held so people could test their skills, learn more about their history and just have fun. Before the festival can start people set up tents and workshops in the Old Town. Some stalls are set up on the streets while others are located in the courtyards of historical buildings. People also make or buy costumes for the festival. Some dress up as simple peasants while others prefer to play merchants, soldiers and knights. During the festival the Old Town of Tartu is divided into three areas, each representing a different historical era. Most of the events take place in Jaani town which takes people back into the hanseatic times. Th...

Filmianalüüs (500) Days of Summer/ (500) Päeva Armastust Film rääkis noorest mehest, kes arvas end oma eluarmastuse leidnud olevat. Tüdruk, kellesse poiss armus, polnud just kõige "lihtsam" ning tekitas poisi ellu suurt segadust.

"People these days are thinking less and drinking more'' Nowadays, alcoholism is rising and this is a big problem not only amongst teenagers but also amongst adults. When there is a problem or a difficult situation people do not think how can they solve it. They think, "Where is my bottle of vodka?'' There are several possible solutions to this problem. What clearly needs to be done is to encourage people to handle their problems without using alcohol. Firstly, we have to teach them that thinking clearly is more effective than thinking with an alcohol bottle. Secondly, we should tell them that they have got supportive friends whom they can rely on. Another suggestion is that the media should not promote drinking. Commercials are very effective with teenagers because commercials are very colourful and memorable. Also, when teenagers see some beautiful advertisement with lots of people who are having a party with drin...

Pärnu Hansa days Pärnu Hansa days take place every june and during four days. Reason for celebrating is, that people can go back in time, and do same things, as it was in the Middle Ages. Days before the festival, organisers have to register sellers, who are going to sell their Middle Ages products. Also, there is a lot of job with searching good musicians and entertainers. On the top of this, it takes lot of time to bring all stages and tables to the festival place. On the actual day, there are many people in the Middle Ages costume. There is a huge Middle Ages fair, and people can buy what ever they like. Participants can see many perfomances, take part of different games, and just have nice days with nice people. If you enjoy fairs, perfomances and meeting Middle Ages traditions, don't miss it! It is the perfect way to spend your summer days.

Dear Liisa Lovely to hear from you after so long! It’s a great tragedy that the COVID-19 is out and about but we just have to make the most of it and protect ourselves and our loved ones. After being in isolation for only two days a realization hit me. I realized that everything that I took for granted was going to change. As many other, I didn’t thought that Estonia is going to suffer greatly from the virus outbreak and everything is going to proceed as usual. Life goes on. But it doesn’t. I became aware of the problem after my sister and I had a talk about immunity. I myself have lived many years with runny nose and I don’t worry too much about it but I really never thought about my little sister and mom. They both have had some serious issues with their health and I don’t want my actions to harm their wellbeing in any way. Because of that our family has stayed isolated for 10 days now. The first few days were like a cakewalk and...

On the third day I could finally turn back to my normal life and start eating again. That poisoning was very terrible. I felt extremely bad and mostly I was sad about ruining my vacation. For at least two days I couldn't enjoy Mexico. That is all for now. Let me know if your health is okay. I hope I'll hear from you soon. Love, Mari

Holidays, Festivals, Cultural events TALLINN - If you're looking for entertainment in Estonia this summer, you are really spoiled for choice. Festivals and events dedicated to the consumption of beer are a lot of fun, but if you want to get the true feel of the country, you need something a little more ethnic. Like a town fair. Just as July becomes August, the seaside town of Haapsalu will host a grand spectacle of rural Estonian entertainment. The White Lady Days is a summer celebration filled with amusement for all the family. Held in and around the remains of the Teutonic-knights-era castles, the fair combines enchanting medieval legends with modern countryside charm to create a comprehensive experience of Estonia beyond the big cities. But the legend of the White Lady of Haapsalu, which is at the heart of the festival, is perhaps the most famous tall tale of the many that are so abundant in Estonia's folklore. It is the story of...
10. september 2009. a. My summer! I spend my whole summer in Varbla, where lives my older sister. Some days in July and August I also spend at home, because I had to take care after my dog and I wanted to buy some new clothes. Most of my time I hung around with my friends in Varbla. We rode a lot with horses and sometimes after workout we went swimming with them. Me and my friends took part in a movie which was made by Estonian and German people. It was filmed in beach Matsi and I really enjoyed that experience. In August me and my horse Estrella wanted to compete with other horses, but unfortunately I couldn't go to that race. A day before the race a horse hit me in the ribs and I wasn't able to move for a few days. My summer ended in Toila, where I worked with ...
Mari-Liisa Reigo Jaanipäev Jaaniõhtu, also called Jaanilaupäev and Jaanipäev are the most important days in the Estonian calendar, apart from Christmas. The short summer seasons with long days and brief nights hold special significance for the people of Estonia. Jaanipäev is celebrated in the night between 23rd and 24th of June, a few days after the summer solstice, when night seems to be non-existent. For Estonians, Jaanipäev celebrations were merged with the celebration of Võidupüha during the War of Independence when Estonian forces defeated the German troops on 23 June 1919. After this battle against Estonia's traditional oppressors, Jaaniõhtu and the lighting of the traditional bonfires became linked with the ideals of independence and freedom. Jaanipäev marks a change in the farming year, specif...

The square in front of Tallinn's Town Hall functioned as a marketplace for centuries, dating back to times even before the Town Hall itself was built. Through the years this served as a place of celebrations as well as executions. Today the square remains a cultural focal point for the city. In summer, it's filled with outdoor cafés and is home to countless openair concerts, handicraft fairs and medieval markets. In winter, an annual Christmas Market enchants the crowds on the square, as does the town's Christmas tree (a tradition whose roots stretch back to 1441), which stays up for a month or more. Town Hall Square has also become the traditional centre of the Old Town Days festival, a modern version of a medieval carnival. Traditions from the Middle Ages are kept alive here, including parades, a knights' tournament, a parrotshooting contest and the election of the May Count. Tallinn`s late Gothic Town Hall building is one of...
Mardi Gras in the USA Mardi Gras, from the French words meaning "Fat Tuesday," combines religious tradition with a carnival or festival to welcome spring. It is also called Shove Tuesday or Pancake Day (in UK pancakes have an important role in celebrating Mardi Gras). Mardi Gras is the final day of Carnival- a festival season. Carnival begins 12 days after Christmas on January 6 and ends on Mardi Gras, which always falls exactly 47 days before Easter. The date of Mardi Gras changes every year. In the year 2008 it is on the 5th of February. "Fat Tuesday" is also the last day that Catholics can eat meat before Lent, the forty-day period of fasting before Easter The cities most famous for their Mardi Gras celebrations include New Orleans, Louisiana; Venice, Italy; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Many other places have important Mardi Gras celebrations as well. It is a federal holiday in Alabama, Florida an...

It's going more and more interesting and I like it. That book tells the story of Madame Wu. On her fortieth birthday, Madame Wu carries out a decision she has been planning for a long time: she tells her husband that after twenty-four years their physical life together is now over and she wishes him to take a second wife. The House of Wu, one of the oldest and most revered in China, is thrown into an uproar by her decision, but Madame Wu will not be dissuaded and arranges for a young country girl to come take her place in bed. Elegant and detached, Madame Wu orchestrates this change as she manages everything in the extended household of more than sixty relatives and servants. Alone in her own quarters, she relishes her...
