Conventional medicine has little to learn from alternative medicine

In our modern world more and more people look for alternative medicine instead of taking conventional treatment. Which of these treatments is better or can they both be used effectively in different cases? It is generally understood that when having a severe condition or an emergency, conventional treatment is strongly needed. For example, in a case of a heart attack or a severed limb, it is vital to find a way to a hospital or surgeon in a hurry. Unlike alternative medicine, conventional medicine has proven effectiveness and is scientifically based, while alternative medicine has a lack of scientific basis and its results are not always consistent. On the other hand, alternative medicine is better when having relatively mild condition, such as headaches, then a doctor would probably write out pain killers. Not much help in the long term. Social Problems

Social Problems Crime In the sociological field, crime is the breach of a rule or law for which some governing authority or force may ultimately prescribe a punishment. The word crime originates from the Latin crimen. When society deems informal relationships and sanctions insufficient to create and maintain a desired social order, there may result more formalized systems of social control imposed by a government, or more broadly, by a State. With the institutional and legal machinery at their disposal, agents of the State can compel individuals to conform to behavioural codes and punish those that do not. Various mechanisms are employed to regulate behaviour, including rules codified into laws, policing people to ensure they comply with those laws, and other policies and practices designed to prevent crime. In addition are remedies and sanctions, and collectively these constitute a crimi...

All about High Tech

There is no specific class of technology that is high tech--the definition shifts over time--so products hyped as high tech in the 1960s would now be considered, if not exactly low tech, then at least somewhat obsolete. This fuzzy definition has led to marketing departments describing nearly all new products as high tech. Economy Because the high-tech sector of the economy develops or uses the most advanced technology known, it is often seen as having the most potential for future growth. This perception has led to high investment in high-tech sectors of the economy. High-tech startup enterprises receive a large portion of venture capital. However, if, as has happened in the past, investment exceeds actual potential, then investors can lose all or most of their investment. High tech is often viewed as high risk, but...

Teaduslik revolutsioon

Teaduslik revolutsioon 15431600 I One of the most important developments in the western intellectual tradition was the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution was nothing less than a revolution in the way the individual perceives [ tajub ] the world. As such, this revolution was primarily an epistemological revolution it changed man's thought process. It was an intellectual revolution a revolution in human knowledge. Even more than Renaissance scholars who discovered man and Nature, the scientific revolutionaries attempted to understand and explain man and the natural world. Thinkers such as the Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus(14731543), the French philosopher René Descartes(15961650) and the British mathematician Isaac Newton(16421727) overturned the...

Topic of Australia

It is the only country in the world that occupies an entire continent. The mainland covers an area of 7.7 million km² and it is about 3700 km from the most northern point to its most southern point and about 4000 km from east to west. There are also many different seas around Australia, like the Coral and the Tasman Seas in the west or the Timor and the Arafura Seas in the north, where the Indian and the Pacific Oceans meet. Because all seas and oceans near Australia are warm, surfing is a very popular hobby. Political subdivision Australia is divided into six states, which are: · New South Wales · Victoria · Queensland · South Australia · Western Australia · Tasmania New South Wales is the most populous state in Australia. Its capital is Sydney. Victoria is one of the most densely populated states in Australia. Its capit...

History of the English language

Present in Old, Middle and Modern English, though the general tendency is towards more regularity/iconicity so the number of suppletive forms has decreased. In the text: goon to go wenden - to turn Gan was suppletive in Old English, past form: eode.Eode was supplanted by went (past form of wenden) at the end of the Middle English period. To wend has survived in Modern English in phrases such as to wend one's way, we wended homewards (ironic usage). Thus: suppletivity- suppletion different parts of one and the same paradigm come from what were originally different paradigms (different words with close meanings or words in different but close dialects).Suppletion embraces verbs, adjectives, nouns. Be was/were been (Old English beon/wesan) (am, art, is, are); in Old English some suppletive forms were used parallel to one another) Good better best Bad worse worst Much more...

Art of Healing: present and future

They try to keep themselves healthy because otherwise they would feel miserable. People watch carefully what they eat and many go to regular check-ups. But still people get ill, even the healthiest people catch a cold sometimes. Nothing can prevent accidents to happen. The people who are ill or some kind of an accident has happened to them need help. Medicine is the science and art of healing. It is a science because it is based on knowledge gained through careful study and experimentation. Medicine develops very quickly. Nowadays the doctors can do almost anything they want. Egyptian doctors began to specialize in 2500 B.C. At that time they were already quite skilful. When a man lost a limb there was a big possibility that he would lose too much blood and die or get a blood poisoning before that time. Now the doctors can...
