Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) Virginia Woolf (neiupõlvenimega Virginia Stephen) sündis 1882. aasta märtsis Londonis, viktoriaanlikus kodanlasperekonnas. Woolfi isa Leslie Stephen oli tuntud literaat, ema Julia Duckworth (Jackson) kuulus oma erakordse ilu ja ennastsalgavuse poolest. Tal oli kuus (pool)õde-venda. Perekonnal olid laialdased sidemed kunsti- ja kirjandusringkondades. Iga võimaliku hetke veetis teadmishimuline tüdruk isa suurepärases raamatukogus tuhnides ja kirjutamisannet katsetades. Virginia jumaldatud ja tark isa pidas õigemaks kodus antavat haridust. Ta oli tütre igapäevane vestluskaaslane nende tunde vältavates analüütilistes aruteludes.
