The number of teens who smoke has dramatically risen over the past years. Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and health diseases. Most of the youths start smoking to improve their self image with no attention of becoming addicted. The awareness of the harmful effects of smoking among young people has been rising but many of the young people ignore the dangers of smoking. One possible solution to reduce smoking is to educate the teens. Schools could have classes and seminars that increase the knowledge about the consequences of smoking. That way teens would be aware of the health problems such as many different cancers, heart diseases, asthma and strokes caused by cigarettes. Youths should also see the visuals how smoking ages skin and yellows teeth. Also a similar meetings for parents and students should be organised. After this parents might be more intrested in and responsible for their child' s health. Teens would care about their health more
But how many of us realize that this has become irrelevant in today’s world? Air pollution is the addition of any harmful substances to the atmosphere, which causes the damaging of the environment, human health and the quality of life. Firstly, we should use green methods of powering like wind energy and landfill gas energy. This would reduce the amount of harmful gases. Another useful suggestion would be to plant trees. In this way we can increase the source of breathable oxygen. Unfortunately, many companies are contributing to deforestation. Finally, it would help if we put taxes on carbon emissions or higher taxes on gasoline. In this way people and companies will have greater incentives to conserve energy and pollute less. In conclusion, there are many ways to pollute the air less. We all have to do whatever we can to solve this major problem. As Shimon Peres said “If a problem has no solution, it may not be a problem

Pessimism vs. Optimism Different approaches to the ‘population-resources’ debate Malthus Task: View figure 13.57 (page 378 of Waugh). Draw the graph and discuss. Malthus believed that there was a finite optimum population in relation to food supply and that an increase beyond that point would lead to a decline in living standards and to war, famine and disease. An increase in the population above the optimum limit would therefore lead to war, famine and disease. A PESSIMISTIC approach Thomas Malthus (1798) proposed his work during the early stages of the industrial revolution when inadequate food and clothing were common features in England. His argument was that population increases (geometrically) or at an exponential rate if unchecked i.e. 1-2-4-8- 16-32 etc Food supply at best increases at an

Meetings that last for several days need to be scheduled for any social program for the participants. Now consider the reasons for suchkind of meeting. There are: - rewarding performance; - creating opprtunities for professional development; - to introduce new products; - increase a sales pitch. Now move on to the problems typical in international meetings.A classic mistake is that meeting`s material arrives after one meeting ended, ignorance of the cultural characteristics of the participants, inattention in relation to the physicalcondition of guests which came from far away. In conclusion I would like to say few words about the pitfalls that take place in international meetings, such as sharing personal information, which is common in North America is not
Human overpopulation Liis Lukk MJ15 What is overpopulation? • Overpopulation is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. • Human overpopulation is among the most pressing environmental issues • Overpopulation can result from an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates, an increase in immigration, or an unsustainable biome and depletion of resources • Human population has been rising continuously since the end of the Black Death, around the year 1350 • The most significant increase has been since the 1950s, mainly due to medical advancements and increases in agricultural productivity • The recent rapid increase in human population over the past three centuries has raised concerns that the planet may not be
The short term rising unemployment is painful and the focus of Fiscal Policy is to try to counterbalance the fall in C, I, G, or X so that the unemployment does not result. The tools the government would use are 1) Increasing G, or 2) lowering taxes (on households) and thus increasing C, or 3) some combination of the two. Expansionary Fiscal Policy The goal of expansionary fiscal policy is to reduce unemployment. Therefore the tools would be an increase in government spending and/or a decrease in taxes. This would shift the AD curve to the right increasing real GDP and decreasing unemployment, but it may also cause some inflation. Contractionary Fiscal Policy The goal of contractionary fiscal policy is to reduce inflation. Therefore the tools would be an decrease in government spending and/or an increase in taxes. This would shift the AD curve to the left decreasing inflation, but it may also cause some unemployment
temperature of the liquid. Did You Know...? The solubility of a gas in blood and the temperature of blood are relatively constant. Differences in the partial pressures of gases in the aveoli and in the blood create a pressure gradient across the respiratory membrane. This difference in pressures leads to diffusion of gases across the respiratory membrane. The greater the pressure gradient, the more rapidly oxygen diffuses across it. Task · How does exercise increase the pressure gradient at the respiratory membrane? Response & Adaptation · Response (acute) immediate response of systems as a result of exercise response can change with intensity, system changes return to resting values once exercise bout has ceased, or shortly after. · Adaptation (chronic) more permanent changes as a result of training adaptations will resist change but will revert to previous state if training ceases

Any manufacturing and production company can use this proposition (or Law) to their betterment. Is Tony right in his analysis of the situation? Explain. According to my point of view, Tony's decision of increasing the price a good decision as Pizza is a product that represents a small portion of an individual's income so an increase or decrease in the price would not affect the demand drastically as the demand for such products remain in- elastic. In this case he can afford to increase the price of his pizza as it I one of the Best pizzas in town so his customers would not mind a slight increase in the price as it would still be affordable for them. Secondly Tony's pizza being the best, his customers would not leave it for a substitute

This includes both human (man- made), social and physical (natural) features. Natural features include soil, the atmosphere, vegetation and wildlife. Human features include things such as culture, language and political systems. Geographers are concerned about human action in the environment. Human interference with the environment causes problems such as soil erosion, global warming and acid. You may ask how we as individuals can have an impact on the environment. Our actions can help to increase the problems highlighted above. For example turning off lights that are not being used helps to reduce global warming. Until recently, concern about the environment revolved almost exclusively around local and national problems. Over the past two decades, however, scientists have increasingly focused attention on more far-reaching environmental threats, such as global warming, ozone depletion, and deforestation that transcend national boundaries

Again, it's good exercise, it feels great and it's fun. 4. Take a Bus --- Many communities have a public transit system. We all need to use and support public transit, because if these systems are used adequately they are more energy efficient than cars, and they help reduce wasteful traffic congestion. If we increase their use, the governments will increase the frequency and convenience of the schedules, which in turn will further increase their use, thereby discouraging individual car and truck traffic. 5. In today’s society marketing plays a major role. For the next examples: It is connecting link between the consumer and the producer. Marketing process brings new items to retail shops, from where the consumers can buy them. It helps in increasing the living standard of people. Because of large scale production, prices of good come down. Thus, reduction on price will result in a higher standard of living. It helps to increase the nations income. Efficient system of marketing reduces the cost to the minimum, this in turn lowers the prices and the costumer’s purchasing power increases. This will increase the national income. In increase employment opportunities. For continuous production, continuous marketing is needed. Thus, increased activity provides more job opportunities to many people.

when they break through to the industrial scale. 2. The scale of biofuels production 2.1. Drivers of biofuels production Lal (2010) stated that "three inter-connected challenges face humankind in the 21st century": food security, climate change, and energy security. The world population is projected to reach 9 billion in 2050, posing more demands on energy, food, and other natural resources. It has been estimated that the world food production needs to double and meat production increase by 85% by 2050 to fulfill projected demand by population (Karp, 2011). In the recent decades, the food consumption in the most populous counties has shifted from grain-based diets to meat and dairy diets. Meat production requires times more biomass in the form of animal feed and that puts further pressures on natural resources. As food production is very energy intensive, it is closely linked to global energy consumption. Global fuel consumption

warming. Global warming, also often referred to as the greenhouse effect, has not always been a problem. However, over the last centuries, since the Industrial Revolution things have changed. Polar regions are melting, species are dying, climate zones are shifting, migration patterns for animals such as polar bears and birds are being disrupted our world as we know it is changing. Some scientists believe that the climate will reach a tipping point, a point at which even a tiny additional increase would throw the system into violent change. We started doing harmful things and only now do we realize what we have done and what we are doing. At this current rate by the middle of next century the Earth's temperature may rise a predicted from 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. This may not seem as much but with the Earth's delicate balance we will have lost several species and habitats. Scientists are worried that soon the effects of what we have done may be irreversible

Since then she has taught in various universities in Tallinn. In her opinion the main differences that affect the teaching of Chinese in China and Estonia are the purpose of teaching, the authority that the teacher has, and the language environment of the country. In Estonia one of the main purposes of teaching Chinese is to increase the knowledge of China and Chinese culture in addition to the teaching the language. In China on the other hand the purpose is often to increase the ability of students to survive in the society, find work, and do business. The lecturer believes that the amount of authority and respect the Chinese language teachers receive from overseas students in China is related to the purpose of teaching. In China, the
people`s lifes. In general, magazines offer information about famous people’s personalaties and private lifes, because the magazine’s goal is entertain readers and nowaday people are fond of famous people life details, despite embarrassing or untrue things. Besides, magazines help famous people support their popularity and in some way develope their careers, giving other people free information about their private lifes. Gossips increase people`s interest and products, which are produced or broadcasted with famous people will be more common ,than others things. In conclusion, based on the arguments listed above is clear that more appropriative role for featuring private life of famous people is for magazines, than for newspapers, which should focus on serious situations. Magazines are more linked to social things and may not only inform people, but also help famous people increase their popularity. Valeria Prostjakova
separate because therma processing destabilizes pectic material. The texture of food is influenced by parenchyma cell size, cell wall composition and thickness. The abudance of starch in cell and the shape and sizes of the granules is also important for the food texture. For example it is reported that in potatoes that have higher strach content and closely packed cell arrangement, the fracturability is higher. Cooking or just thermal heating starch leads to an increase of hydrolysis and therefore makes it easier for enzymatic attack in the gastrointestinaal tract. Slide 6 Starch digestion is also different in various foods with diferent components. Proteins that attaches to starch granules may make harder to digest starch. Cooking starch with protein may also reduce effectness of digestion. Protein forms around starch and it is harder to break through to starch. Ohter study found out that adding sodium sulphite to starch can prevent
Finally, it leaves us with other loads corrosion, fire and loads during construction. First of all, thermal loads are sometimes called hidden or locked-in loads and caused by daily or seasonal change in air temperature. To clarify its effect, let´s assume that a steel bridge 100 m long was erected in winter at an average temperature of 2oC. On a summer day, when the air temperature reaches 32oC, the bridge lengthens, since all bodies expand when heated. The increase in length of the bridge can be computed to be only 3 cm. It is indeed small, one three thousandths of the bridge´s length, however, if the bridge is anchored to abutments that do not allow this thermal expansion, the abutments will push on the bridge to reduce its length by 3 cm. And unfortunately steel is so stiff that the compressive load uses up half the strength of the steel therefore, the bridge´s resistance weakens. And for engineers, there is only one way of avoiding this

Many students decide to acquire vocational education and they have to choose which profession to pursue, whether it be, for example, learning to become a technician or a hairdresser. However, a bigger majority of teenagers decide to go to university. But before doing so, teenagers have to be certain what kind of study program they will be taking. This puts young people under a lot of stress, because they have a lot of doubt and fear. For example, over the years, there has been an increase of people, who have decided to study Information Technology in University, including myself. The increase has been due to the immense labor shortage in Estonia and the high salaries students will be earning after university. For me these are not the reasons I want to study IT, but because I am genuinely interested in developing new software and applications for computers. But since a lot of teenagers want to study IT, I find myself
Climate Change: Climate is the long-term average of a region's weather events lumped together. For example, it's possible that a winter day in Buffalo, New York, could be sunny and mild, but the average weather the climate tells us that Buffalo's winters will mainly be cold and include snow and rain. Climate change represents a change in these long-term weather patterns. They can become warmer or colder. Annual amounts of rainfall or snowfall can increase or decrease. Global Warming: Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities. The increasing infrastructure instability is an important issue in relation to

It is used to produce electricity and heat, to produce different products like fertilisers, glass, plastic, it can also be used as a fuel to our cars. Petroleum is a liquid that can be found in earth's crust. It is used as fuel and as a raw material in chemical industry. It is very important we use renewable and non-renewable resources wisely. If a resource is used and thrown away, eventually the resource becomes scarce. When the supply decreases, its price will increase. Products that are made from that resource would increase in price too. Sometimes resources become so rare they can no longer be used. In these cases, substitute resources may be used, which may make a poorer quality product, or one that is more expensive. If substitutes can not be used, some products could no longer be made. Wise use of resources includes not throwing away products that are reuseable or recyclable.

An inactive lifestyle is one of the major causes of heart diseases. While a lot of heart conditions occur when we are older, it is necessary to start exercising at a young age to keep our hearts strong as we age. Cardiovascular exercises like running, swimming, cycling, and aerobics are especially good for the heart, hence the name `cardiovascular'. These types of exercises help to maintain your blood pressure, reduce the bad cholesterol and increase the good cholesterol in your blood, reduce the risk of diabetes, and increase your endurance level so you don't easily run out of breath. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are all conditions that the black individual is more susceptible to than most other races. Maintain a Healthy Weight: If you're on the internet reading this, you probably already know that exercise is vital to maintain a healthy weight. Any form of physical

If current demographic trends continue, however, Islam will nearly catch up by the middle of the 21st century. Between 2010 and 2050, the world’s total population is expected to rise to 9.3 billion, a 35% increase.1 Over that same period, Muslims – a comparatively youthful population with high fertility rates – are projected to increase by 73%. The number of Christians also is projected to rise, but more slowly, at about the same rate (35%) as the global population overall. As a result, according to the Pew Research projections, by 2050 there will be near parity between Muslims (2.8 billion, or 30% of the population) and Christians (2.9 billion, or 31%), possibly for the first time in history.2

If the price deflator is not known, an implicit price deflator can be calculated by dividing the nominal GDP by the real GDP: · Implicit Price Deflator = Nominal GDP / Real GDP The composition of this deflator is different from that of the consumer price index in that the GDP deflator includes government goods, investment goods, and exports rather than the traditional consumer-oriented basket of goods. GDP Growth Countries seek to increase their GDP in order to increase their standard of living. The growth in GDP does not result in increased purchasing power if the growth is due to inflation or population increase. · For purchasing power, it is the real, per capita GDP that is important. The Earth's climate has been changing constantly over its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will

Earth's climate system. Since 1971, 90% of the increased energy has been stored in the oceans, mostly in the 0 to 700m region. Despite the oceans' dominant role in energy storage, the term "global warming" is also used to refer to increases in average temperature of the air and sea at Earth's surface. Since the early 20th century, the global air and sea surface temperature has increased about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980.Each of the last three decades has been successively warmer at the Earth's surface than any preceding decade since 1850. More than 90% certain that most of global warming was being caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities. In 2010 that finding was recognized by the national science academies of all major industrialized nations. Affirming these findings in 2013, the IPCC stated that the largest driver of global
