Talent vs experience speech

Talent is something you are born with. But on the other hand experince is gained through life. John Wooden has said: “I'd rather have a lot of talent and a little experience than a lot of experience and a little talent. “ I agree with the statement. To start with, while practising some sports and professions one needs to be talented. For instance, you can’t be a ballet dancer if you haven’t assumptions for that or you can’t be a composer if you haven’t musical hearing. If you have a talent, but you are not willing to use it and work with it you do not develop and then the talent is useless. I have a friend who has great singing voice, but she hasn’t trained it and unfortunately she’s not achieved anything in singing. I think if she had practiced singing, she could be very good and maybe even f...

Education

In this instance what was taught in the business schools and economics departments did not include the value of good communities or the human costs of a narrow destructive economic rationality that valued efficiency and economic abstractions above people and community. My fifth principle follows and is drawn from William Blake. It has to do with the importance of "minute particulars" and the power of examples over words. Students hear about global responsibility while being educated in institutions that often invest their financial weight in the most irresponsible things. The lessons being taught are those of hypocrisy and ultimately despair. Students learn, without anyone ever saying it, that they are helpless to overcome the frightening gap between ideals and reality. What is desperately needed are faculty and administrators who provide role models of...

Hemingway A Farewell to Arms (themes, motifs, symbols)

Motifs Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, or literary devices that can help to develop and inform the text's major themes. Masculinity - Readers of Hemingway's fiction will quickly notice a consistent thread in the portrayal and celebration of a certain kind of man: domineering, supremely competent, and swaggeringly virile. A Farewell to Arms holds up several of its minor male characters as examples of fine manhood. Rinaldi is a faithful friend and an oversexed womanizer; Dr. Valentini exhibits a virility to rival Rinaldi's as well as a bold competence that makes him the best surgeon. Similarly, during the scene in which Henry fires his pistol at the fleeing engineering sergeants, Bonello takes charge of the situation by brutally shooting the fallen engineer in the head. The respect with which Hemingway sketches these men, even at their lowest...

Stilistika loeng

In syntax the sentence structure may differ and the stylistic effect may be different: "He came in" (neutral) "In he came" (more dynamic). Here we observe inversion different word order it is more powerful. In lexicology we find many examples of synonymic pairs in which the borrowed word carries bookish term and the native word is neutral (e.g. begin - commence, understand comprehend, think cogitate, etc.). "He came home drunk" no extra shades of meaning. "He returned to his residence in a state of intoxication" has extra shade of meaning (irony). "He died poor" no extra shades of meaning. "He expired in indigent circumstances" has extra shade of meaning....

Exami kysimused-vastused

Due to their acoustic features sounds may create certain feelings, ideas or images. This is called euphony (from Greek "pleasant to the ear"). 7. PHONETIC STYLISTIC DEVICES ONOMATOPOEIA is sound imitation, echo writing. It is a combination of sounds suggesting the typical sounds the object makes. Traditional cases are: buzz, roar, whisper, ding-dong, splash, squeak, giggle, whistle, etc. More original and more expressive examples comprise nonce- coinages (e.g. "the train choo-chood to the station"). ALLITERATION - alliteration is the repetition of single sounds or groups of sounds (usually word-initial sounds, esp. consonants). Alliteration goes back to Anglo-Saxon poetry that knew no rhyme and did not yet rely on metre. The complete alliteration of Anglo-Saxon poetry is sometimes used for humorous purposes. Alliteration may have its share in producing an ironic effect. Alliteration may convey various shades of meaning....

Anglo - Saxon

Art Anglo-Saxon art is mainly known today through illuminated manuscripts. Although they are the most well known to have survived. Perhaps the best known piece of Anglo-Saxon art is the Bayeux Tapestry which was commissioned by a Norman patron from English artists working in the traditional Anglo-Saxon style. The most common example of Anglo-Saxon art is coins, with thousands of examples extant. Anglo-Saxon artists also worked in fresco, ivory, stone carving, metalwork and enamel, but few of these pieces had survived. Literature Anglo-Saxon literary works include genres such as epic poetry, hagiography, sermons, Bible translations, legal works, chronicles, riddles, and others. The most famous works from this period include the poem Beowulf, which has achieved national epic status in Britain. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of important early English history...

Tartu ajalugu

The key and sword above the gate are the attributes of the Tartu bishopric as well as the town's patron saints Peter and Paul. At the end of the 16th century southern Estonia was under Polish rule. In 1584 King Stefan Batory gave Tartu its flag. Every day at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock p.m. a tune sounds from the town hall's bell tower. Main Building of Tartu University The main building of Tartu University is one of the most outstanding examples of classical architecture in Estonia. The main building was built in 1804-1809 according to university architect Johann Wilhelm Krause's plans. The opening ceremony of the university's main building took place on 3 July 1809. Since that day, all major university events are celebrated in the main hall. Because of superb acoustics many concerts are held here, and its spaciousness allows for conferences to be held. The hall was re-opened on 3 May 2002 following its last renovation....

Arvutiviirused

Most viruses are resident. The second category is System or Boot-Record Infectors: those viruses which infect executable code found in certain system areas on a disk which are not ordinary files. On DOS systems, there are ordinary boot-sector viruses, which infect only DOS boot- sector, and MBR viruses which infect the Master Boot Record on fixed disks and the DOS boot sector on diskettes. Examples include Brain, Stoned, Empire, Azuza and Michelangelo. Such viruses are always resident viruses. But a few viruses are able to infect both (the Tequila virus is one example). These are often called Multi-Partite viruses, though there has been criticism of this name; another name is Boot-and-File virus. File System or Cluster viruses (e.g. DIR II) are those which modify directory table entries so that the virus is loaded and executed before the desired program is. Note...

Writing in the Business World

We had two trucks doing nothing since five days because the Autocheck people didn't come out when we called them though it says in their contract that they'll get here inside 24 hrs. and also twice trucks have break down inside of 3 days of Autocheck servicing them. These are some of the examples of the problems we've been having though before this the work they did on our vehicles was always quite OK. We've made lots of compleints to the Autocheck Manager about the work Autocheck is doing just now and he's had more than enough chance to tell us why things have got worse but he hasn't replied any of our letters (I've attached copies) and every time one of our reps tries to get in touch with him either persinnaly face to face or in the phone, he's out....
