It was named in honour of Lord Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar square in 1805. Nelson was a much loved military hero in his day. The square is surrounded by many great buildings. There is also two famous fountains where y ou can take a dip in hot days. On the north side is the National Gallery. It houses a collection of more than 2300 paintings. National Gallery it is in fact one of the first permanent police boxes too. On the east there is Canada House. Opposite the Canada House is the South Africa House.which is popular attraction in the square which African animals featured on the stone arches.. At the north-east corner is the St. Martin-in-the-Fields church.which had survived the Great Fire of London. Trafalgar Square is popular not onley for human. U can see there hundrets of doves. The square used to be famous for its pigeons, and feeding them was a popular activity with Londoners and tourists

The United Kingdom is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the North Sea in the east, the Norwegian Sea in the north, and the English Channel, also known as La Manche, in the south and it also separates the country from the continent of Europe. The neighbours of the United Kingdom are Iceland in the north-west, Norway in the east and France in the south. Britain also has many dependant territories which are scattered throughout the world and are the remains of the huge former British Empire. Today Britain assists them, but they may become independent whenever they wish
The people in American colonies were fighting for independence and those people who fled north were the one who wanted to remain loyal to Britain (United Empire Loyalists). Britain created two new colonies: New Brunswick and Upper Canada. New Brunswick was created in 1784. Upper Canada became part of Quebec in 1791. Upper Canada was the English-speaking colony and Lower Canada was the French-speaking colony. They were reunited in 1841, called Canada West and Canada East and the capital of them was Montreal. They become provinces of Ontario and Quebec in 1867. Uniting all the Canadian provinces soon became a necessity. There were five reasons why it was good to unite the provinces: they wanted to be protected from the USA, they wanted to defend themselves against the Fenians, trading would be much easier, they wanted to build a railway from east to west and Britain didn't want to support Canadian provinces anymore
